TOM and feeling unmotivated!

Cathlete
Hi all,

I'm feeling terribly unmotivated today - started my period and slept very badly last night, and feel just exhausted today. I was scheduled to do a cardio workout today, but I just can't bring myself to do it! I'm hoping I'll feel better tomorrow and can do a long, hard workout to make up some.

Does anyone else feel like this sometimes? It seems that results take so long to see, I am feeling kind of frustrated. I had made good progress last month - lost 1% bodyfat, but gained it back (+ several pounds) when I went on holiday for 10 days. Now I feel like I'm starting all over again.

Sorry to be a downer, just feeling a bit discouraged today.:( I'm sure I'll feel better tomorrow!

I know how you feel!!! TOM always gets me down. My problem is that I never know when its coming. Then one month the darn thing lasted practically a month!!!! YUKx( !! I work hard and have seen improvement in my arms, legs, and butt...but my stomach is still out there! I'm sure there's more I could do, but I don't know if I have the discipline to do it. I went on vacation and did really well, however, when I came home I got sick and was down for the count. I couldn't workout and gained back 3 pounds. It doesn't sound like much but I'm 5' tall with a small frame so it looks like more. I guess we just have to remain positive and keep at it. It helps to know others are in the same boat I'm in. Misery does love company.

Stephanie-
I feel this was every month at that time.... I used to push myself to exhaustion to try and avoid "back slides" but over the last year I found what works best for me and my body... take it for what its worth as everything works differently for everyone.
Non period weeks:
6 days: 45-60 minutes cardio + 1 body part a day wts
The feeling less than great week: 3 cardios (usually CTX Series Workouts) + 2 full body

Since I started going easy on my body for that 1 week I find I do indeed actually workout AND I dont retain as much water AND my body just feels less achy every day.

Hang in there
Hope that helps!

I too go through periods where I don't feel like working out. (No pun intended : ) The important point is to stick with it for the long term. Missing a day or 2 every once in a while isn't going to make or break or progress. You're body is speaking to you.

You could try just stretching, that could make you feel better.

Honey chile, you are not alone!!!! I didn't workout on Sunday or Monday, but I must I must do it today. I have taken my power nap and slept on a heat pad. Motivate, motivate, motivate.....:D,

Stephanie-
I usually feel lazy (and ravenous) the week BEFORE, so I completely understand where you're coming from. And some months, I just wanna curl up in a ball on day one. I just listen to my body and take an unscheduled rest day if I need one. I think everyone has slumps and setbacks. Don't be discouraged. You'll bounce back!

Do you feel up to doing just one section of any workout and see how that goes?

For example, do the warmup and section one of any of Cathe's step routines. Tell yourself, "I can do 15 minutes of any workout!" And after the first section, if you feel like going on, do it, but if not, skip to the cool down and finish there.

Or, like mentioned above, do some stretching or some yoga...

Fortunately (or maybe un-) I don't have periods anymore. I've been put into temporary menopause by my oncologist to optimize my "disease free survival". Now I get hot flashes. Yipee. We ladies just can't catch a break, can we? ;)

Thanks everyone! I decided to just take it easy today, and am relaxing this evening w/ a couple of glasses of nice wine, some TV, and my sweetie. I'll be back at it tomorrow!
