Toenail fungus help

Beavs, that's my problem: keeping mine dry. My feet sweat like you wouldn't believe and I never go sockless due to how lovely my toes look. I even wear socks to bed because it grosses me out to rub my toe nails on sheets and such. So my feet seem to be wet all the time. Not sure how to remedy that.

Debbi, try your remedy atnite with your sox on. I f I use anything,I use it at nite and put sox on. I go barefoot around the house, DH and kids don't mind...

Debbie--your doc can prescribe you Drysol, a prescription strength anti perspirant, that you can use on your feet. You can use a few times a week as needed. You might also sprinkle some anti fungal powder in your socks and keep extra pairs to change into when needed. Also, I bought a boot dryer and it has been wonderful, especially in the winter, in drying out shoes (especially funky workout sneakers and hiking boots). Once you keep your feet dry you will have won half the battle ;)

I really hate my feet bare, even in the summer. And when the weather is like it is, my feet are too cold without socks on. But maybe once it starts to get warmer I will try to walk around the house barefooted. And I always do my treatments at night and put my socks on over it. When I wake up, my feet are usually sweating.

I should try some powder, I never have done that. And I don't have a doctor, still trying to find one here that I like. Thanks for all the advice!

i've used vicks for awhile and see nothing. i'm afraid i may have to bite the bullet and get the orals.

I'm so glad people are getting help from this thread. That's what I love about posting. Whatever your issue is, there's bound to be others who are grappling with it as well. I told my BF that I do have some remedies but I haven't been able to present them to him as of yet. He also has consistency issues so with him, timing is everything. Thank you again everyone for all of your great suggestions! I know Lamisil can be a difficult medication to decide to take but for those who have seen results, I'm glad it worked without any side effects.

JT, how great that you already see improvement with the Vicks. Please continue to post with your results.

If anyone else starts to see results with the remedies mentioned, if you could, please share your experience. We would all benefit by it.

Thanks again!

My sister has had toenail fungus for years and all the remedies listed she has tried without success. Right now she's using Fungusil (perhaps, for about 3 weeks or so). It's an anti-fungal liquid treatment for toenail fungus. She lost one of her infected toenails just last week (which I think is a good sign.) And a new nail is starting to grow in place. You guys might want to try it as well.

I had a toenail fungus after my first and only pedicure for my wedding. The Dr. was going to prescribe the Lamisil, but I told him I didn't want it b/c of the side effects. He told me about a precription nail polish called "Penlac." You paint it on the affected nail, build up a week's worth of layers of the nail polish, trim the nail if needed at the end of the week. At the end of the week, you remove the layers with alcohol swabs, and begin the process again. You have to be good with doing it each day. I forget how long it took to get rid of mine, I think at least 3 months or so, but then it was gone.
Here is a link for more information.

I hope that helps.

Has anyone tried the laser surgery to get rid of toenail fungus? My husband has been thinking of trying this.

Still have my issue although I try to not wear socks as often and will try VICKS again. I've been using Lamisal spray.

Bam, has your husband had any luck getting rid of the fungus? I haven't. :(

Just curious as to what he tried and if it worked.

Hi Debbie. Thanks for asking. I don't get on this site very often and just saw this post. Unfortunately, my bf hasn't been able to get rid of it. He tried some of the suggestions here along with other things. He basically cut off the nail (ooooh, I'm cringing as I'm writing this ) and would apply topical treatments but to no avail. I'm sorry you haven't found a treatment yet. Perhaps one of the additional suggestions posted may help.

Good luck!

My DH had horrible toenail fungus for over 15 years. His toenails looked truly awful! His doctor prescribed Lamisil and the fungus cleared up w/in a 2-3 months. It hasn't recurred in 10 years. Totally worth it!

I've also read that soaking your feet in Listerine can help - the original browny goldy one, not any of the blue ones (unless you want blue feet!). Haven't tried it personally though. Have to say I'd much prefer trying the types of home remedies mentioned (with the exception of Clorox) than potentially damage my liver with oral meds. Just wondering though, things like Vicks Vapor Rub, vinegar and Tea Tree Oil stink to high heaven - how do you explain why you smell to your friends/co-workers??

this thread needs to be on page one for reference. Going to try apple cider vinegar since the vick's hasn't done too much. it did help until my toes got used to it.

Toenail fungus - good response w/medication

Hi - I had a very difficult toenail fungus about a year ago and my podiatrist prescribed Ciclopirox Topical Solution, 8% Nail Lacquer which is applied every day like nail polish except the 7th day you remove it with rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover, then begin again repeating the applications. It takes months to really work but it got rid of it for me so it was worth the time and $ - fortunately my health insurance covered a large portion of it.

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone for posting different homeopathic treatment for nail fungus.

My first nail infection happened when I was a teenager. Over the years, I have done topical prescribed lotions, several different oral medications, toenail removal. Each one helped for awhile, but eventually, the problem came back. I even threw out all of my shoes and socks after a "successful" treatment, but then it would always come back.

One thing to consider is that not all nail infections are fungus. Mine happens to be yeast. It starts at the nail tip and slowly works back to the cuticles. I don't know if that is one reason why it always comes back. At one time, all of my toenails were infected and I had it starting on my fingernails. Oral medication did clear it up. Now, one big toenail is severly infected and the other has just begun to show signs of infection. **sigh**

I wish that I had an answer. I think I may try some of the home remedies. The problem is that the infection is under the nails in the nail bed, so most topical treatments cannot reach the source of the infection.

I had a NASTY fungal infection in one toe nail that the oral stuff did NOTHING for except for cause me to get the liver function tests monthly for. Yes, that oral stuff can cause liver damage.

But soaking daily for 10-15 min in one cup vinegar to 3 cups water for 8 weeks, cured. And 2 years later, still cured.

I'm so glad this remedy worked for you! What type of vinegar did you use as there is white, apple cider, etc.?

Thank you.

Just plain old vinegar the first 4 weeks, then switched to apple cider the last couple cause I'd heard it was better.
