Tired

:) I was also wondering, the last few weeks I have been under extreme stress and notice that my energy has depleted and when I workout I get tired quickly and have to push my legs to finish the workout, is there anything I can do to get my energy level back up? I used to feel energized for the day after a workout.

How long since you've changed up your routine? I found changing my routine gave me increased energy. Also, if I eat clean I have lots more energy. Plenty of sleep helps(yeah, right! who gets that????).

Not Cathe, but here is my two cents.

Being under a lot of stress takes a tremendous toll on the body. Stress also depletes the B complex vitamins that are needed for your body to produce energy. Are you taking a good multi vitamin? I would start taking one that contains at least 100% of the B complex vitamins.

I know that when I'm under stress I also don't tend to sleep as well. Be sure that you are getting around 8 hours of sleep a night.

I also don't like to cook when I'm stressed out and often find myself reaching for fast food/convenience food when hungry. Try to make time to cook healthy meals and to have healthy snacks prepared so when you're hungry, you're not loading up with crap.

Finally, is the source of your stress temporary or something more chronic? Can you do anything to alleviate the stress? See if there is anything you can do to address the source of your stress. If it appears chronic, you may need to ask yourself the tough question of 'do I want this in my life knowing the toll it's taking?'. Not an easy question to ask or answer. Yet you may need to take some time to examine the function this stress is playing in your life.

Just some suggestions. Take care of yourself.

I agree with most of these comments so far, especially identifying the stress etc. However, one question for you-- are you drinking enough water?? Sometimes if you are not drinking enough water throughout the day you will tend to lose your energy level.

Just a thought

I am suffering from exactly the same. I finished a 4 week Slow and Heavy rotation, then stress hit me like a truck. I had been feeling really strong and high energy. Then suddenly I couldn't complete Step & Intervals without tons of breaks, feeling truly bad and breaking into tears.

I don't have any remedies other than I have taken several weeks off from working out, I can't tackle everything at the same time. I am dealing with easing the situation that is causing the stress and then I wil have to throw myself back into working out to recover my fitness.

It is teaching me not to underestimate the huge toll stress can have on the body. None of us is superhuman, and something will have to give: hopefully not your health or mine.

Good luck and take a breather. Deal with one thing at a time.

You've gotten some really good advice here. The month of June I was busy packing to move to a new home, had sold my house, was going through a divorce AND had started a new and very stressful job. During that entire month I simply had to let it go - I did workout 5 to 6 times a week, but they were light and easy workouts (like the Firm's FatBlaster). I only used weights once a week.

Another thing you may want to look at it your protein intake. If you're trying to lift heavier your body may require more protein -- try little meals throughout the day. Getting in 50 gms. of protein prior to my workouts helped me a lot.

Best,
Pam :)

The body and mind can only take so much stress. The stress of daily living added to the stress of intense workouts might be too much, if the daily living stress is especially high. When you have a lot going on, it's sometimes best to cut back on the exercise intensity a bit, maybe adding some more calming exercise, like yoga or stretching.
