tired after w/o?

sometimes after an intense w/o i feel very tired. during i feel full of energy! then have a small snack afterwards, then 30min-1hr later i feel like i've been hit by a truck. not sure if this is a real pattern, noticed it last 3 intense w/o i did. thought it was norm, but now i wonder...on a day with a light w/o or none my energy is pretty even long as i have enough sleep.

This will happen to me as well. I work out at 5am during the week and by the time I get to work I am usually ready for a nap. :p On the weekends I tend to work out at sporadic times later in the morning and feel the same way. The only difference is that I that I actually get to take that nap when I'm done! :D

I get up at 4am during the week and don't usually get to bed until 9:30. Sometimes 10. I am sure I am not getting enough sleep but it's very hard to get to bed earlier most nights. I am a true 8 hour a night girl but have learned to live on less b/c working out in the evenings is not a good option for me these days.

That's a good point, it may be due to the amount of sleep you get. I get up at 5:45 and run for an hour. I'm full of energy during the day, and do weights when I get home. I don't start getting really tired until 9:00 or 10:00.

You're making sure you get enough nutrition, right?

I'm not sure sleep is all of it. I really find if the workout is long and intense, no matter how rested I am, how much/what I've eaten, about an hour after.. I'm knackered. I feel like I'm starving.. and completely exhausted (not hunger starving, just energiless). It is FINE though, if I have a big-ish meal soon after exercise :)

I get this too. Another thing that helps me a bit is to drink a lot of water. On intense workout days I aim for 12 X 8-oz glasses of water, in addition to what I drink before and during my workout (I don't count that water because I'm pretty sure I sweat it all off).

Still ... especially if it's a weekend day, I sometimes end up having to take a nap in the late morning.

I also get tired post workout. I wonder if your snack is not enough, try eating a bit more, also are you replacing the salts you lose in your sweat? Try either an airborne or sports drink (you might look for dye free because the dyes give me a headache personally, I don't know if that would hurt you.)

getting enough sleep is always an issue with getting up early to get kids on the bus, but i think i had enough sleep those days. i think the fatigue after the w/o is from the extra intensity. i first noticed it after plyo legs from sts. never done it before, gave great doms for 5 days after. i finished about 2, felt fine, kids got home, and ate something, by 3:30 i was wiped. sometimes it goes away, sometimes i take a nap.

i've had runs using the wii(running in place). i sweat buckets, but feel fine rest of day. i dont consider that a really intense w/o, bc my body's very used to it.

its possible i need to change my snack/meal- depends how hungry i am. not sure if that would make a difference. it may be par for the course too. sounds like its common for other people too.
thanks for all the thoughtful responses :)

How many days a week are you at this intensity? Exhaustion can be a sign of overtraining.... More than 5 days at a high intensity could be too much for u. Make sure you have rest days ... At least one full and a moderate workout on another day.... Your body needs rest in order to produce results.

i havent been w/o much at all this month, still recovering from being sick. but previously i think i alternated my intensity just bc i do different w/o through the week. but if i feel ok then the next day i could do 2 days of intense w/o in a row. in the ex. of plyo legs i took it easy rest of the week w/doms. those side lunges are my new favs lol.
