Time to put the diet with the exercise

I made a decision long overdue tonight. I am going to join DW and we are going to do Weight Watchers together after the first of the year..I need to apply the same intensity to healthy eating that I do when I work at with Cathe, and it's just laziness on my part...I enjoy healthy food, but it's just so much easier to stop at Wawa (very popular convienience store here in the Mid-Atlantic region) then it is to take the time to prepare something far better for me.

I had one of those moments the other day when I went to button my shorts and the button popped right off, thankfully I didn't take someone's eye out, either mine or otherwise, and it's all because of the diet I eat, because I love my exercise.

I have never been one to place too much emphasis on outward appearance, I always have believed..and still do...that we have to take care of the inner half first, and my inner half is as good as it's been in a long time, so now it's time to focus a little bit on the outer part, and I'm hoping that my decision helps DW stay on track as well, and we both support each other in a healthier lifestyle in both food and fitness.

I also know that to join WW before January is setting myself up for sabotage...I have 2 weeks in Disney in November to get through, and then the holidays..by then I will be ready for the healthy stuff!!

Best of luck to you Jerry! I just started WW three weeks ago. I am doing the Core Plan since that is closer to "clean eating." I am not sure that I will ever be able to do strictly clean eating but this is really close...lots of fruit and veggies, whole grains, FF dairy, etc.

ETA: I think you are making a very wise choice. I also love to exercise and exercise every day for about an hour (Cathe). However, I am not seeing results. Why? Because there is a nice layer of "pudge" covering my muscles! My eye-opener came after doing Cathe's August rotation. I did the entire month faithfully and lost NOTHING!!! It was then that I realized that diet plays such a large part in outward appearance.

Go Jerry...Go Jerry...Go Jerry (and his DW!) One of the first things I remember when I first joined was that darned kitchen sink sundae that you had at Disney. I carried my laptop into the room where DH was to show him  Sort of makes me hungry to think of it now, and then it sort of makes my tummy hurt - that thing was amazing :D Definitely will not fit into any sort of WW plan! All the best to both of you. Carol_is_fit did Precision Nutrition with amazing results. You may want to PM her and ask about it. It is something you could start now b/c WW won't be geared towards muscle building, I assume, and you want to eat right to feed your muscle. This will help with that (there is also Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle that several here enjoy).

The diet is the my challenging part of staying healthy. It makes it easier if you can do it as a team. My husband and I have been married so long that we do everything together, including gain weight:D.

Sometimes I'm good and he's not. Sunday, I had my last meal of the day chicken/ spinach salad. My husband made a frozen pizza for his dinner, AND ate a frozen snicker bar! I was a little envious of his splurge, but didn't feel that way Monday morning.:D:D:D He sure felt guilty!

I know, I know....why the frozen snicker bars? I have Halloween candy in the house (for trick or treaters) and decided to freeze some candy bars for Halloween movie night.

Good for you!

WW is the BEST - they have the proven track record, & it's a program you can live with forever, because it doesn't stop once you reach your goal. They at least make it palatable so you don't feel like you're being deprived.

Exercise won't do it all - you have to combine it with proper eating as you've come to realize. Good luck - keep us posted!

Good luck Jerry!! I know I still have food "issues"! I have been in a mental battle with an all you can eat chinese buffet for several days now. So far I am winning, I haven't given in yet. I have NO self control at that place!!

Well, Jerry.....you're a very wise man. I am so PROUD to hear that you have found the 'secret'....being happy with you INSIDE first, then working on the outside!

Oh, and add ME to the Pudge Club, because I'm in the same boat as many others....LOVE to workout hard and DO it almost everyday, but the results aren't visible because of what (and how much) I put in my mouth!

GO JERRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait to see you on the 27th!

Gayle

Jerry,

" We're in this together" Hmmmmmm! Now where have I heard that before?
Support from your DW, DH, and other loved ones and friends is a valuable asset
in your success at nearly everything.

Funny I have never tried WW, but I had to jump in here and let you know I just
came back from the library with some cook books and one is "COOK IT QUICK!"
by Weight Watchers. Looks pretty good and claims the recipies can be done in
30 minutes or less.
Take care,
Bri.

Good luck. I've seen many people with great results on weight watchers. It is a life style change. You can do it!!

welcome to the weight loss club!

You might also check out the podcasts I mention all the time on weight loss (especially for those who know how but need a little brain oomph behind it to do what we know we need to do.) that would be The Reasonable Diet with Sandra Ahten and Inside Out Weight Loss with Renee Stephens

Hi Jerry,

I think it is wise to start a new way of eating and exercising program the first of the year. That way you are right (not setting yourself up for failing). As we all know, the holidays are packed full of foods that to the human eye look wonderful to eat, but full of unnecessary fat, sugar and calories, not to mention over processed with chemicals.

Once you do start on your new way of life by eating right and exercising, you will feel so much better and you'll be more ready for it.

That doesn't mean to eat everything in site until then though. Be careful about the size of the servings and get some exercise in just to hold your weight where it is now.

Sorry for the lecture I'm saying this to myself as well.

Congratulations on your journey to a better healthful more strong you. You and your wife should be proud of yourselves to fight against unhealthy and bring on healthy and fitness.

Hi Jerry!!

Good luck with WW. That is great that you and your wife are doing this healthy lifestyle change together. I just join WW online over a month ago and already I feel good about myself:)

Thanks for all the support, gang. Today I went suit shopping, and found that I am still the same size that I was around the time I began working out with Cathe.

I can view this two ways...I can say thank god Cathe's workouts are so thorough that I maintained despite my lousy dieting habits

Or I can say wow..imagine how good I'll feel about myself when I mix in the dieting along with the exercise, because it sure seems that whenever I eat something crappy the night before, that sets the tone for my mood the next day. OTOH...a good, healthy meal..and I feel great the next day.

I will never give up my occasional treat nights, but the key is to make them just that, occasional.

Thanks again, and Gayle, I agree with Jodi...you look perfect just as is, and likewise, can't wait to see you in a couple weeks as well.
