Thoughts on Boot Camp?

MuscleGuy

Cathlete
I'm just wondering what people's thoughts are on Boot Camp. I've heard the Cardio Only Premix mentioned a lot, but not really the rest of the workout.

Also, I only have a normal step....is it still workable without a high step? (I do already have a Medicine all, though)

I'm very interested in Boot Camp but I'm not sure I'd use Muscle Endurance which it is bundled with....do you think just Boot Camp is worth the price of the DVD?

Thanks

MuscleGuy,

You should buy it. I have only done Boot Camp about 1-2 times since I bought it, but I always mean to do it more. This is simply because I don't usually do circuit workouts because I have limited space. I have used the premixes on it and they are great. It doesn't require a step or high step. I also use ME all the time and I love it! In fact, I can't live without ME. ME does use a high step, but you can invest in one for the long term. It is well worth it as a lot of Cathe's other workouts use on

Thanks for your reply, Yen. I'm SURE I saw a High Step in the pics from Boot Camp. I must be mixed up.

I use Gym Styles and Slow & Heavy for my weight days so I'm sure I wouldn't use ME.

I'll certainly think about buying the DVD for Boot Camp, though.

Bootcamp is a great workout. There are guys in the video.
And, as Cathe says literally in this workout, "you can do anything for a minute". It's worth the money. ME compliments it well too.

If a high step is required and you don't have one, you can use a regular straight backed chair for step ups, as I always did before I got a high step.

I am not sure that a DVD is worth the price if you only ever do half of it. You will have to think that through for yourself.

I hardly ever do Bootcamp. If you like circuit workouts, you may like it. If you don't like circuits, then don't bother1

I think Bootcamp is Cathe's BEST circuit workout. The cardio is hard as hell and the weights are fantastic. The best part is, is that as hard as the cardio is, it's only for one minute so you know you can get through it.

Cathe does use a High Step for this--just for leg presses though I think, which can easily be done on a regular step. It's not necessary to buy the high step just for this workout, but like others have said, it's a worthwhile purchase since many of Cathe's other workouts use it.

You'll love Bootcamp. Both Jai's and Lorraine's husbands are in it which makes it extra special (not to mention the fact that Lorraine's husband is super cute....:))

Go get it! It's definetly Cathe's hardest, most effective circuit workout!

p.s. Muscle Endurance is also one of Cathe's best total body workouts. I just love, love, love this dvd. Can ya tell? ;)

You could just use a club step at 8 inches.

You could of bought the High step from the Physical company, here in the UK, but they have discontinued it :-(

Another vote for Boot Camp. It was my favorite Cathe workouts and remains one of my favorites. As others have said, the high step is only used for leg presses but it worthwhile to have the high step anyway. I use it for box jumps when I make up my own workouts. Boot camp though moves very fast but you get a great workout.

Muscle Endurance is also one of my favorites. You can't go wrong with either one.

Good choice! I love Bootcamp! For some reason the time flies when I do it. I wish she put out a BC 2 because this workout is a classic.

I have owned Boot Camp since it first came out and still use it and love it. My two teenage sons are competitive tennis players and they use Cathe's Boot Camp to supplement their training program. They like it as much as I do :)

I didn't know that was Jai and Lorraine's husbands on the tape. How cool!

I like Bootcamp and the time flies when I do it. Just like has been said here, you can do any cardio for one minute. I find the core work really challenging. I don't do this workout nearly enough.

Even though I haven't done Boot Camp for a long time, it's more because I have so many workouts than because it's a bad one.

I especially like doing the "all but core" premix, followed by the "core only" premix, which both reduces the 'up-and-down' of the workout (which doesn't work well for some of us with low blood pressure!), and IMO actually makes all aspects of it a bit more intense, because there's less of a break between lower body segments, plyo segments and core segments.

Another thing: I think Boot Camp is a very male-friendly workout, not just because of the inclusion of two male background exercisers, but because of the overall tone and choreography.

>i thought it was Jai's husband, and they other guy was a dj,
>but not a DH??

Yep.
The guy on our right is Jai's husband.
The guy on our left (who 'fidgets' annoyingly during planks!) is a DJ (Mark? Mike?) who played DJ at the Road Trip before this last one.

Excellent....I can't wait to receive it! It looks like just the sort of workout I am looking for...a cardio sweatfest combined with muscle-building in a routine which is challenging and varied!

I just did this workout for the first time yesterday (albeit the FitTV version). I like it as an option for adding into my rotations, but it really didn't "zing" with me.

I did have a bit of trouble transitioning to the cardio, so I didn't feel like I got the full benefit. By the time I figured out what was going on, cardio was almost over! That should be better the next couple times I do the workout, though.

I really liked one of the ab sections in the circuit, where you sit on the floor and rotate side to side with the medicine ball (I used a 5 lb dumb bell instead). I've seen this movement using a stability ball, but prefer it with the dumb bell. I could really feel it in my obliques.
