Those of you living in Arizona...

Rhonda,
I have 3 cats and 2 birds and I saw your post about finding good vet. I so agree, it has been the hardest thing to do here. I am not sure why you would think with the city being so big it would be easy. We live in surprise and go to 7st and dunlap for our birds. We see Dr. Frank but it is and hour and a half drive, but so worth it. I was just wondering who you bring your babies to? Thanks in advance.

Chandler has been built up on farmland, that's where the stink comes from. But as it's built up it's going away. There are still some, but all farms, kinda unfortunately, are bought out. The good thing is it's very green here with mature trees and landscape. They really know how to make a town and their streets beautiful. Yes, we have mountains in Southeast Chandler and you can see them plenty;-)

I think I'm done with the AZ debate everyone, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Scottsdale isn't "snotty" that's a stereotype just like the "West" side. I have family and friends there. I lived there my first year. ;-)

You can find good docs, hospitals, anything you wherever you are. Just because some people haven't doesn't mean you won't.

Grass is always a lil greener wherever you go;-) There's a reason I've lived in Chandler for 9 years.
You'll figure it out.
Remember, these are all opinions, you'll have an idea of all the places to check out! Good luck to you, and have fun!

Hi Rhonda

I am from Munich, Germany. My Mom is Swedish and my Dad German, so when I was a kid we were moving back and forth a lot between Munich and Stockholm. But I spent much more time in Germany, went through the school system there, etc. I only have German citizenship though - this is until the INS grants my American citizenship - this may take until I retire though :) It took 5 or 6 years to get my greencard and my DH is American - Crazy how slow the INS works in AZ, I heard it is much faster in other states.

I envey you for living in Italy, I LOVE it, great area, great food, great people!

You are absolutely right, it is very tricky to find a good vet these days. And a good doctor for that matter, too. I am more on the naturopathic side (DH calls me "Homeo-Psychopath" :) ) which makes it even harder. I don't think I am extreme, but most allopathic doctors here are just rolling their eyes because I don't want to shuff antibiotics down my kids throat for every cold and most vets probably think I am difficult (which I probably am). What kind of 4-legged friends do you have?

Despite of the shortage of good doctors and vets, I think AZ is a wonderful place to live, people are very friendly and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Carola

Wow! What a lot of responses to this thread. There are a lot of Arizonians here. Just to clarify, I didn't move here blindly. I have had family out here for 20 some years. I visited often and my husband's job took him out here. It was either that or unemployment. He got a nice promotion. He is a civil engineer, so this is the best place for him to be. He spent alot of time here last year.

I am not knocking it here, I just am not in love with it. Let's say I'll be happier in October. We will move back to the Midwest in a few years. I'll take the snow and cold over the 110 degrees. It's a trade off. But there are a few good things about AZ. And maybe my pro-list will grow in a couple years, we'll see.

Fab 4o Im with you, my husband is at Luke AFB and I am from Pa and he is from SD so we both miss the snow-I also hate the heat!!! When he retires in 4 years we would like to move to Maine-but well see. We moved here 4 years ago from Hill AFB in Utah and that was beautiful there-although I can find something beautiful at every base we have been at and I can be happy anywhere.

Thank you Thank you!!

How old is your son Isaac?

I have twin boys (13) with Aspergers Syndrome and this past school year was our first in middle school....Sigh, It was rough for the boys. Now we have a FBA/FBP in place and we have an OT consult on the books for this next school year.

I really need an excellent school district, as the Aspergers brings many issues to the table for the boys.

Here we live in the best school district in the entire area, and the schools are very good.

I figured that the term "Snowbirds" were referring to the people coming from the colder states for the winter, this is quite prevelant in Florida as well.

Thanks for the clarification.

Carola,
So you are half German too! My father-in-law is flying out here from Hamburg this Thursday for 2 weeks. Germany is such a beautiful country. I know what you are saying about the green card etc. Hubby went through the same thing. He is now working on his dual citizenship (German/American).

I am with you on the holistic approach to medicine. Seems like Dr.'s these days just want to push a pill on you rather than geting to the source of the problem. I just think there are better ways to heal the body.

I have 2 dogs. Both were from RESCUE and were saved from death row. They are little Chihauau mixes. We adore them.:D

Lisa, we take our dogs to Dr. France at 107th Ave and Indian School. We really, really like her alot. When I was living in Chandler, we took our previous dog to a vet there who ended up mis-diagnosing her cancer as "gas" believe it or not, and it eventually cost her her life (I still have a lot of trauma over this). Dr. France has been wonderful with our dogs and we will follow her all over the valley if she changes clinics.

Let me know if you need more info on her.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Rhonda

Carola,

I just wanted to Thank you for giving me so much information and ideas, you have been very helpful to hubby and I...Big Huge HUGS!!

There have been so many wonderful suggestions given here, so the areas that we are most interested in are:

Chandler
Surprise:"Marley park"
Gilbert
Avondale

I know that area are often split up into areas that are nice and areas that are not so nice..so which area of Chandler would be the nicest area to live, and to get the most bang for our buck?

Here where we live the area we live in is generally very nice and the school district is the very best in the entire area, many people want to live here just for the schools..etc.
Of course there are areas of where we live that are nice and not so nice, areas where there are older homes and areas where there are newer homes. Then still there are areas where there are Very expensive huge homes, and then areas where there are very nice homes but not so expensive. know what I mean?

We built our home in a neighborhood right next door to 2 schools, they are within walking distance for the kids. We live in a fairly new development with homes all built in the last 5 years. There are many smaller ranches and there are several larger homes. We are within 5 miles of a very nice grocery store and other stores. We are about 7-8 miles from the local mall and other large shopping areas and restaurants. We are about 20-30 minutes from the city area, as we live out in the sticks so to speak..lol

Hubby and I found a house that we really love, and this is the kind of house we are looking for. It would be nice to find a house similar to this house in 250,000-350,000 price range!

What kind of an area is this house in?
