This is Levi, my main man.

Your horse is GORGEOUS! Is that a Dutch Warmblood? I didn't know you're into horses. I used to have a few myself. Mostly thoroughbreds although I prefer warmbloods. Better temperment than thoroughbreds. EXPENSIVE as hell these warmbloods are!

Levi is a four-year old Friesian x Morgan - he is half and half. I've had him since he was two, and just learning how to be ridden. He is still pretty green to horse shows.

Although he is technically a warmblood, he is not as dull as most warmbloods are. He is very light and forward. He is personality plus and is very confident. He gets attention at all the places we've been.

He also pulls a cart. I'll try and post some pictures of that. Let me run upstairs and get my photo album...

This is Levi put to the cart. He's very flashy in his harness when he moves. The man on the left is a friend of my DH, and that is me on the right. As you can see, friend of DH is a city mouse and is a little worried about trusting in real horsepower! My cart needs repairs. We shouldn't be leaning back so much!

Here is DH doing the driving. He is not really a horse person, but enjoys driving Levi. Sometimes when the weather is good we go out on the road early on Sunday mornings. Usually we keep it to the farm though, because it is safer.

Enjoy!

He is absolutely drop dead gorgeous!!! That is my very favorite color of horse! His tail is beautiful too. Dressage is tough, isn't it. They say once you get the basics you have most of it. But the basics are so very hard. You two look like a wonderful pair. A good dressage forum site is www.ultimatedressage.com. Good discussions there and they'll even critique your picture (if you're brave enough).

Thanks for sharing. He is eye candy.

Jeanette :)

Yeah, the horse is cute, too!;)

Thanks for the website - I'll check it out. :)

I just saw the driving pictures too. I know the feeling of being uneasy in a cart... I got to ride with a older gentleman that was driving 2 Lipizzans. No dull plodding around for them. He trains them for combined driving events. Very exciting. I got to drive them but never felt very comfortable. I think it looks so elegant.

Driving is like flying!! You do have to get use to the feeling. Being astride gives more control.

Yes, dressage is really about the basics - getting the horse to respond to the lightest aids promptly and quietly and without argument. This takes so much time and is often just plain tedious work. But once you get it, everything else just follows. At least that's what I'm told. I've never gotten further than Training 1 and 2.

Beautiful horse. I used to ride hunters -- mostly Thoroughbreds, but I did ride a Warmblood for a while. I loved him, but he rode like a tank. Solid, steady, but not very light.

If I get back into riding in the future, I will go back to Dressage -- did that a little in the past.

Thanks so much for sharing your pictures. I've really enjoyed them!

Do you live in the eastern U.S?

Wow!!! Your horse is beautiful!!! I love the pictures. What part of the country are you in? The scenery is very nice!!! Dressage must be good for your thighs!!!! Thanks for sharing!:)

Thank you for all your compliments! I have to be careful when I tell Levi though, I don't want him to get too big a head!

I live in Maryland. Unfortunately our open spaces are quickly being eaten up by development and sprawl. If you live on the DC side of Virginia, you know what I'm talking about.

Yes, riding is very good for your inner thighs. I always smile when I do Cathe's inner thigh work - it just flies for me.. However, I am grateful that SOMETHING Cathe does is easy for me, as everything else is such a challenge.

And as for riding warmbloods - oh my , they are so tank like. I don't know how those little ladies at the very tops of competition ride those behemoths. A lot of it is just ugly, pulling on the horse's mouth to get their balance, etc., not being able to sit the horse's trot. I've ridden big horses - no fun. We specifically looked for a horse that wouldn't get too big for me.

He is just jaw dropping, beautiful trot :7 . Maybe he wants to be a Dressage horse with a occasional Hunter show thrown in ;-) Okay I'll hijack to post a horsey pic or two :+. I don't have many pics scanned in yet, compared to how horse pics I have:p

This is Mr. Wonderful a TB stallion I was lucky enough to ride, he is beautiful inside and out.

This is my girl at her first show, she could be quite the grump, but it was all an act she was a real softy :).

More horse pics please I love looking!

Hey, I'm in Falls Church! I know just what you mean about the sprawl and lack of open space! :)

Rebecca, your pictures are not popping up. Can you please try again?? I LOVE looking at pictures of horses. I miss having horses around. I don't have the time to care for them right now as I have 2 little babies. HOPEFULLY we'll get one soon.

I'm surprised riding on warmbloods is like riding on a tank. My cousin trains warmbloods and a couple of other breeds and he said warmbloods are graceful and easy to train/ride. One of the reasons why I like thoroughbreds and warmbloods is because I'm tall and they're taller. I used to train Arabians. That was interesting.
:)

Horses are individuals like people but as a whole, warmbloods can be heavy and thick. I don't doubt that there are certain individual horses that are very light, but that's why you really have to be picky about the one you ride. You can look at the Dad to see if he is truly exceptional, and to see if he is prepotent - that he passes his gifts on to his offspring.

But warmbloods are descended from cart/carriage horses which explains their beefiness and heaviness. There is an idea among dressage riders that bigger is better, and that's just not true. A lot of times you don't need a taller horse, just a rounder horse!

Anyway, it's really my place to say what another person feels comfortable riding, as long as the blue ribbons come home with me!;)

I agree with you. I think the person has to be comfortable with the horse to ride on the horse for life. Me personally, I'm more comfortable on bigger horses i.e thoroughbreds, warmbloods, etc. I felt kind of retarded riding on arabians because they're smaller but OMG LOVELY to ride on. SO SMOOTH!! I always feel bad about riding on smaller horses even though I know they're strong.

Just because the sire has good bloodlines in him doesn't mean their offspring will carry on the sire's legacy. I've seen a lot of famous horses coming from a nobody family. Sometimes the offspring get their bloodlines from the mare. It depends on the horse. I know Man O War created a lot of famous offsprings. (If anyone doesn't know who Man O War is, he was a famous racehorse from the 1920's)

Don't you hate it when those greedy land developers take away a lot of the land to put houses and other crap on?? I live on Long Island and a lot of areas around here are starting to look like the city. Lucky for me I live on a farm but some a**hole politician is trying to push us off the farm so he could build houses on our property. Jerk.
