The Step vs Super Step

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of getting a new step in the next few months, as I have an old, cheap, unstable "Bodyshaping" step. I'm having trouble deciding between the original Step and the new Super Step. Has anyone compared the two in person to know the differences, besides just height? I noticed in the new Intensity series Cathe is still using the original Step for stepping, and it looks she uses the Super Step for weight work. I would like to use one step for both, but I don't know which. Any suggestions? Is one more stable than the other for stepping?

Thanks,
Jen

Jen,

When the S&H series first came out, Cathe posted that the new Super Step is not to be used for stepping, but only as a weight bench because it is not stable on each end. I just looked at the WalMart post regarding the Super Step and it says it can be used for stepping, so I'm not sure. I tend to believe Cathe over WalMart! Perhaps others have more input.

I would go for the aerobic step for versatility and efficiency. Like Linda said, the Super Step is not for aerobic stepping, just weight bench. However, you could use the Super Stepping platform itself (without the risers) as an aerobic step -- giving you 5.5" height.

With aerobic step, you'll get 4" (for learning a new workout, light days), regular step height 6", or high intensity 8" -- I don't go any higher than 8" (I am short, BTW). Also, since they are making the mini-topper, you could use the aerobic step for your step-ups from 4" in increments of 2". You could also use your aerobic bench as a weight bench -- you just have to buy additional risers. You could even decline the bench.

For space efficiency and money-saving, I would go for aerobic step. JMHO. I would love to have both, but I just don't have the space to store them. Furthermore, I don't know how DH would take that... he's been very supportive, I just don't want to take advantage of him. I still need to buy the mini-topper, stability ball and medicine balls for the Intensity Series!

I have both and use them both with regularity.

I usually use the "super" step/bench for just weight work, but at times, like learning a new step tape, I'll use just the platform itself at 5.5" so I don't have to worry about tripping or knocking the step around when first learning a new step tape (I have a tendancy to be a tad clumsy!)
or if I'm short on time and doing step + weights, I'll use the step/bench platform for the stepping, then I just have to add the legs to turn it into a bench for weights. Also, the "legs" of the platform stack, so I can use them for sit-n-stand squats at either 15" or 20".

But having said all that, if I could ONLY have just 1 of them, I'd have to go with the original step which you can use at 4",6" or 8". You can still use it as a bench as Cathe does in the CTX series, and you can buy extra risers for it to make it taller if you choose.

WOW ! :-wow ! I didn't even know that the super-stepper is available to buy ? I wonder if it is available in the UK ? Out of interest, how much do they retail at in the US ?

Thanks

Thanks for all the info, everyone. It looks like I'll be getting the original step, since I really love step workouts too, and want to use it for everything. I wish I had the room and the budget for everything, but I don't. Sounds like the original step will do everything I need.

Thanks again!

Hi Jen,

I have just e-mailed Escalade who make the Super-Stepper, and hopefully they will get back in touch with me soon about UK stockists !
