The "No Sweets" Check-In - June 2, 2005

RE: The

I'm doing very well so far...I tend to like all kinds of chips (weakness more than sweets) so I added that to my list of no-nos. I also got my mom to join me;) I like this...I gotta get to the grocery store soon though to re-stock my fridge w/good stuff.

If I don't, that's the #1 way to be tempted into popping one of the muffins in the breakroom into my mouth:eek:

RE: The

It is the easiest, most delicious peanut brittle I have ever eaten, including anything store bought!! I use the Pampered Chef black plastic microwave steamer bowl thingie. That way the bowl doesn't get hot.

PEANUT BRITTLE

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 1/2 cups Planters dry roasted peanuts
1 Tbsp butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda

Microwave sugar and corn syrup in large microwaveable bowl on high for 5 minutes, stirring after 3 minutes. Then stir in the peanuts. Microwave an additional 3 - 5 minutes, or until golden brown.

Add butter and vanilla; stir until butter is melted. Microwave 1 minute. Stir in baking soda (mixture will foam).

Spread mixture onto buttered cookie sheet (I usually just cover one with foil). Cool completely (I usually stick them in the fridge, so that I can eat them quicker!!). Break into pieces.

NOTE: You can use raw peanuts, too. When you are ready to put the mixture onto a cookie sheet, work quickly and be careful. The bowl is very HOT (unless you have the Pampered Chef bowl), and so is the mixture!

Enjoy!

ETA: I hope this doesn't turn into the Oreo Ball recipe fallout. My thighs still haven't recovered (from making and EATING so many)!!!

RE: The

Day # 2 - and no sugar, no cookies, no cakes, no candy, no presweetened anything. Like I said when I accepted this challenge, I'm golden until that first slip....then there's no stopping me!

((((GROUP HUG))))) We're all doing really good!

RE: The

oh help, we planned an impromtu girl's night out for tonight. The kids last day was today, so nobody has to get up early. Well, I do if I still want to get my work out in for tomorrow. Anyway, we're going out for margaritas. Aren't those loaded with sugar? What could i substitute at a Mexican restaurant? I don't want to be the party pooper!:p

Thanks, Dallas

RE: The

RE: The

Well day 2 and I have made it. Not even any diet sodas in these 2 days. I had lean turkey ham for supper with potatoes and peas with crystal light lemonade. I will be good the rest of the night. It is very satisfying that I have made it for 2 days.

The true test comes when my cousin gets married this month and you know there will be wedding cake. Well I will snack on the veggies that are always served. We'll see!

kim

Talk to you tomorrow on daaaaay 3!

Day 2 and I am doing great...yesterday for some reason was harder for me than today.

RE: The

I officially started today. Yesterday I had a Celebration caramel roll that a client brought because her dog is doing so well. I don't have any other birthdays, weddings, etc. this month, so I counted the caramel roll as my "celebration cheat"!!:p

Today is great so far. DH bought some Monster oatmeal cookies, and they don't even look that good!

RE: The

Hi ladies,

Well day 2 and still goin' strong. Those darned chocolate chips in my refrigerator still haunt me though. For 2 days I have passed them up and grabbed the salad bag. Wish me luck for the rest of the month.

Oh-and what's with the peanut brittle recipe. This is totally the wrong topic for that wonderful recipe to be on. I'm looking forward to making it also-come July!!! It's making me want to make chocolate chip cookie dough and just eat that.

We can do this!

Woo Hoo Another day down, way to go ladies! I managed to walk past the samples of Strawberry Pie at Sam's Club today with out eating any. Now when I'm in the grocery store I'm reading lables for added sugar, and surprisingly I've only had to put a few things back. I did get some dried apricots which are really yummy!

Day 3 look out here we come--we're on a roll! (No NOT a cinnamon roll, silly girls) :)

RE: The

2nd day. Oh I'm getting stronger by the minute. I saw the dreaded Sara Lee cake and cookies and mints and I didn't eat them. I even said no to a box of raisins with cranberries (I love that stuff but it has too much added sugar on it) and I had fresh grapes instead. Oh my!

RE: The

I gave up all sweets for lent this year. Instead of sweets I ate figs, dates, and unsulphered dried apricots(ugly brown but great!)I think because they have fiber I filled up after only 1-2 of each. I also had no cravings for sugar. I ended up losing 5 pounds. I did watch my portion sizes but that was it. I have kept it off except when lent was over I ate alot of Girl Scout cookies. Went back to no sweets and am keeping it off. I will try the June Challenge.

Oh, yum. That's the land of milk and honey stuff. From the days before high fructose corn syrup and even chocolate. I love figs and dates! I did very well today. No simple sugar turned my head. I love when that happens!
