The great debate: modifier or no modifier in the new STS cardio videos

Ok, I have read all the arguements for and against a modifier for the cadio videos.

How about this solution: the videos come with 2 versions on 1 disc - much like the premixes they have done on other videos. You get V1 = no modifier and V2 = modifier included. That way a person can select which version they want. Perhaps you might need a modifer for one workout, but not for another.

This of course could apply to only the videos with higher impact moves - i.e. pliometrics. The step workouts and floor aerobic workouts can have someone in the back doing lower impact. OR SNM can decide to film 2x OR they can include an instructional section on each table of contents to demo a modified move.

Now just as a caveat, while this proposal does solve for the no modifier/modifier debate, there are some down sides:

1. longer production time - anything that deviates from the original plan will exponentially increase production time as it touches the many aspects of filming etc. We will ALL have to be patient here.
2. higher costs: time = money, see # 1.

I, too, read the comments and see this as a no win situation.

In any event, I applaud you for trying to come up with a viable solution. I think filming this series just one time will be quite taxing on Cathe and crew (and they are bionic!!), so I can't imagine filming any of the segments a second time.

Let's hope the masses are, for the most part, happy with SNM's decision!! :)

Well, either way I'm very happy I preordered.

Thanks!

I am glad I pre-ordered too. I don't care if there is a modifier or not.

True - it would be hard to film twice. Also, they would not be able to film the step aerobics in segments like they did with the current STS. I would think the at least the aerobics and step videos would have to be seamless. The plios can be done in segments and then you could compile them.

Well, we will just have to wait and see what SNM decides to do.

I am excited that they are even doing a project like this at all - AND so soon after STS Weights!

Nice idea, but I really cannot see this happening. Additional cost and time taken war against it as a workable idea.

The best and fairest solution all round is to include the modifier, that way, those who need it can use it, and those who don't can just ignore it. After all, let's be honest here: by the time you have done each cardio workout 4 or 5 times, you know the workout so well, you only need the music and Cathe's cueing to sail through the workout. I bet hardly anyone bothers to look much at the screen.

If the modifier is there, it can be used or not at viewer's discretion. If a modifier is not included, those who need it will have a hard time making up alternative moves on their own.

Sometimes we just need to be less selfish and include features required by the larger community, not the lesser population who welcome the high risk of injury for a 'nose-bleed' cardio workout.

Since Cathe does use modification to some extent on strength workouts, I hope she will do the right thing and recognize the needs of her largely 40+ aged loyal customers.

THANK YOU CLARE!!!!! :D There are days when I feel like a warrior and I have bionic body parts... other days not so much. It would be nice to have the option... and, more importantly, to be inclusive. I've had problems with many workout DVDs that are joint friendly, but are so easy that I break more of a sweat opening up the DVD case. :p That's why I like Cathe... extremely challenging... just like having a hard core personal trainer right there with you... who, by the way, will modify movements for you if necessary. It would be nice to have a modifier for those of us who need it sometimes... or all of the time.

I Vote for A Modifier

I vote for a modifer because somedays I don't have it all and need to do a more modified version of a workout.

I'm still not seeing the controversy. :)

Especially with a solution like this.

Why not stick the modifier in the back where she can clearly be seen in version 1? Then in version 2 just "edit her" with camera angles.

One time shooting and everybody's happy.

Good solution-

SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN TO ME!

I vote for a modifier

I agree with others on this thread, who say that Cathe should have a modifier on the upcoming STS Shock Cardio series. I would agree with either having one modifier in the back, or having a system that edits the modifier out, within the DVD menu.

Some of us have never progressed beyond the beginner/intermediate stage, and lose out, especialy in enjoying Cathe's aerobic-strength interval videos.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - the "complex" discs should have a SEPARATE break-down/modifiers chapter on them. This is where Cathe could break-down the sequences and provide modifiers for those who need/want them. That way the workout itself isn't interrupted (for the purists) and the information for those who need it is still available. Don't want to watch the chapter? Fine, don't. But if you need it, it's there. It's a simple, logical, "meets everyone's needs" solution, yet.........
Funny thing is I did KPC this weekend. Cathe mentions and shows modifiers in that all over the place, yet it's consistently ranked as one of the favorites. It's funny, when Cathe offers suggestions to modify the intensity UP no one seems to complain or "get confused." Hmm - odd that.

I guess I don't understand a "purist" who would care if there was a modifier. Once I know the workout I just want to listen to the music and go. If a workout is fun and effective (aka Cathe's workouts) who cares? Throw a modifyer in there to meet the needs of as many people as possible. I honestly and sincerely don't get the whole debate with this or why someone would be so opposed to one little ol' modifyer. Just my two cents...and regardless...I'm looking foward to my preorder too! Oh, I need to give CS my address change!
