the firm

Did any of you see the new infomercial for the firm. they offer a new system with adustable wts. they look pretty neat. Has anyone ordered them or thinking of ordering them? I dont really want the workouts but the wt set comes with a case and they are adjustable up to 10lbs I think.

I just checked it out. The weights go from 1 to 16 pounds but is that a 16# set or 16# each? I'm thinking a set which is 8# each because to my knowledge The Firm never worked with heavy weights.

If I were still into those work outs I would buy it. Not a bad price considerintg you get the weight set too!

I was wondering the same thing, Wendy... I also think it's 16# per set.

Laura, if you live near a Target, they sell a set of adjustable dumbbells that I think goes to 25#. I can't remember how much they cost, though - maybe $50 or $60.

collagevideo.com is going to offer these firm workouts around the end of July. You may want to wait till then. The shipping is high if you buy off the firm website (getfirmtoday.com)

If you read over on the VF forum, some people were having problems with their DVDs, I think to the point of having them replaced. I would wait until after that settles before I order. I also read on the YaYa forum that people were having problems with those pretty little pink weights, according to them, some were rusted, some are hard to assemble and take apart. Apparently Firm Direct is sometimes unpleasant to deal with. I am just going by what I have read.

The Firm's equipment is a joke.

I had one of those step boxes that was supposed to become an incline.

It never worked, so I threw it away.

I no longer do any Firm videos except for the early ones.

I had one of the first incline benches and yes they where crap but then they came out with a new version and it was good and sturdy. andyway I was just wondering if anyone had bought them yet.

I unfortunately bought the set and I am so sorry I did. First of all, the weights only go up to 8# each, total of 16#. I use heavier weights than that, and I already have the smaller lb. weights too, so didn't really need it. I didn't try all the workouts, but the ones I did were definitely geared for beginners to low intermediates. Nothing like the old Firms at all. Didn't feel challenged during the workouts. I love AWT style Firm workouts but these don't live up to the Firm name, believe me. I'm not advanced either, I'm probably a solid intermediate but I like to push myself and this set certainly didn't deliver in that regard, sorry to say. Should've waited for more reviews before I jumped onto this bandwagon.

Please save your money. The weights are very cheaply made, they are hard to screw together, and take apart. It really takes up to much time. The only reason I wanted the weights, was to make up odd sets that I don't have, like 4 pounds and 7 pounds. The workouts are boring and are not challenging at all.I might use these when I'm not feeling well...but I doubt it. I wish I just saved my money and bought the Cathe workouts that I do not have.

The Firm now puts out a bunch of S**T.

I can't believe how badly they have ruined their once fantastic name with worthless junk, informercials, and ineffective workouts.

I do Cathe workouts 99% of my workout time.

Sometimes I'll do Crazy for Step by Charlene Prickett or one of the Firm Classics.

I agree. Their products have become really crappy and "gimmicky" almost. What were they thinking ruining a good thing? So glad Cathe has maintained her quality and intensity, and we can count on it staying that way.

I don't know the entire story but The Firm has changed ownership (or whatever you call it) a few times, I think it is now run by Gaiam, before then it was Goodtimes (was Goodtimes taken over by Gaiam?) I am not sure if there were other owners beside these after it left Anna Benson. Someone else can chime in and correct me.

Wow!!! I was waiting for the reviews before I bought them but all the reviews that I seen on "the firm site" everyone seemed to love them. I am glad to hear your honest opinion. I don't think I will be buying them - I said from the beginning, if I can't buy the DVD's separate without the weights, I won't be buying them. I already own weights and don't need anymore.

Thanks again!

I got the weights and workouts. The workouts work better if you heavy up for me at least. I had no problem with my dvds except that Hi Def was loose and just a little scratch. Not enough to return. I used my weights/workouts when I went on vacation. Weights were wonderful to use on the eletric treadmill.

The only 2 I have tried are Hi Def and Cardio Fusion. I liked them but I do miss the fanny lifter aspect (I have a love/hate relationship with that exercise along with hover squats). I can't wait until I try the others.

I have some newer Firm DVDs I do enjoy, and like one of the other posts, I read all the positive reviews on the Firm Believers site so ordered the whole shebang. I also found the weights poorly made and were difficult to put together, looked rusty and some are stuck together. Also one of the DVDs froze right in the middle too. All in all, I agree with whoever said they wish they had bought a Cathe DVD they needed. I need LOTS!! The quality has gone down, unfortunately and the workouts all seem very similar. SIGH! CATHE ONLY FROM NOW ON!!x(

I was totally addicted to the Firm as I am now to Cathe. I think it's great for those who are beginners! I had never used weights prior to using the Firm and it was a perfect system for me at the time. But after a few years, my body plateaued! I was not continuing to see results.....and I was lucky if I broke a sweat. When practically all of the master instructors left (fired?), I knew it was time to quit as well. I never ordered anything after the Transfirmer. I honestly could never see using the Firm again after using Cathe.....unless I was recovering from the flu or something. It would be such a step backwards, I think. Maybe I'll save the ones I used to really like for when I'm in my 70's!!! But, by then, Cathe will be in her late 60's and hopefully will continue to make great workouts!

" was waiting for the reviews before I bought them but all the reviews that I seen on "the firm site" everyone seemed to love them."

From what I've experienced when I used to be addicted to the Firm, the webclub is designed to be positive, and anytime an honest opinion is given that is negative, that opinion is promptly squelched....so I would take the Firm webclub reviews very very lightly.

I ordered the kit, got weights that were stuck together and had rust on them and a DVD that did not play at all. Also, in general, the weights are extrememly cheaply made (as is all Firm equipment in my opinion). When I called to get a replacement DVD (was willing to live with the defective weights, as Firm CS is a nightmare, and the less you need their help, the better), they insisted on sending me an entire new kit, which was annoying because all I wanted was the one DVD replaced. So, the entire replacement kit came and the weights were stuck and rusted, and the same DVD did not play! TO make a long and tortorous customer service story short, I got a full refund and they paid postage for me to return the junk. NOt that this excuses them from selling me junk and giving me horrific customer service.

But regardless of the cheapo weights, the defective stuff, and the rotton CS, the workouts themselves were shocking to me, in that they were very boring, with weird movements, and extrememly corny ad libs from the instructors that made me feel like I had never worked out a day in my life and joined some silly little Micky Mouse Exercise Club. As others have said, this new product launch is a HUGE departure from the Firm of the past, which in my opinion is total history. I feel the Firm has become a gigantic commercial gimmick aimed at folks who are brand new to exercise. Don't get me wrong, the Firm definitely got me to drop 12 lbs and took me from a non-exerciser to an inter/adv exerciser. So I am thankful for that...but my experience with the new system was just what I needed to finally break away from the Firm and move up to Cathe, because I am ready to start getting buff!

So anyway, I would STRONGLY advise against ordering the new system. The only reason I could approve of anyone ordering it was if they never exercised before, and were willing to put up with horrible CS and cheap, defective equipment and DVDs that don't work.

"Gimmicky" you are so right. I've been working-out with home videos for ?? years, let's just say I used to be a big Jane Fonda Fan. Back then the Firm was considered elite and expensive. Now the only thing the Firm is interested in is selling cheesy equipment. And everytime you buy a new Firm DVD set you have to buy new equipment, even their new yoga DVD comes with a yoga block.

SAVE YOUR MONEY and stick with Cathe!:) :)

I would say the workouts where good up until the transfirmer series. I noticed then that they werent as challenging. anyway, why did the instructors get fired? i jen got married, pam went to another club with pilates focus,Ithink. Is lisa still with them? I see allie is. she is looking fabulous I might say. Never the less the firm is what got me in the right direction and I still have the older workouts and will keep them but I like most of us needed a new direction to take but without the firm we wouldnt have ended up here withcathe or possibly anywhere else. so I have to thank them for that.
