The Devil + Shaun T = Insanity

Morning Ladies! Happy Friday!

So my insanity arrived yesterday and I watched the Fit Test and the first couple of DVD's. (I start it on Monday).

I am just wondering if the Devil actually whispers into Shaun T's ear directly, or if he just emails him?

What the HELL are push up jacks?! Seriously?!

I have been so excited that I can do 10 regular push ups now with Cathe, a few weeks ago I could only do 1, and now this crazy bastard wants push up jacks, in the Fit Test.

So, because I think I am tough, I was like, ok, I can do this, so I got up, in my work clothes mind you, dropped to the floor and tried to do a push up jack. I ate the carpet. Really, it was quite hilarious.

The rest doesn't look too bad on the fit test. I am ready for it.

But I have to know - am I the only one who can't do push up jacks?

I haven't ordered Insanity - yet. And I have no idea what a pushup jack is, and frankly I am afraid to find out.

Nico, I can do my own watered-down version of a push-up jack, but just suffice it to say that the down-phase of the push-up is measured in inches (or maybe centimeters). However, I approach these like I did squat-thrust-climbers when Cathe first rolled them out in the original Boot Camp: I might have only been able to do a few at first, but by plugging away at them I got good at them. I will do the same with push-up jacks, and so will you. Keep at it, sistah!

Nico, I can't do push-up ANYTHING. I do tons of workouts with push-ups in them. P90X, Cathe's Gym Styles, Drill Max, STS, etc. I always get down on the floor and try like crazy. I still can't do more than 10 toe push-ups during a workout. Everything else (insane cardio, other weight work, etc) - I show some improvement as a result of my effort, but not push-ups. I am push-up challenged.

So yeah, push-up jacks...not so much. Like Aquajock, I do micro-push-ups while jacking with my feet, and I'll keep pushing myself like crazy. Maybe I'll be able to actually do some honest-to-goodness push-up jacks by Day 60. Maybe not.

The rest of cardio is tough, but more doable for me. I'm interested to see if this gets any easier - I'm working flat-out the whole time. At the beginning of one of the workouts, even Shaun T says he's nervous.

I did all the Insanity workouts. I couldn't resist.:p
I don't want to scare you but the push up jacks are the easiest. I did 20 when I did first the fit test and today I did 25. They are hard. I hate those squat push ups and the side leaning push ups.
I don't like push ups but I try to do as much as possible.
I also started STS with 1 push up and now I can do 20-25.

Now I really can't wait to order this..but wait I must. First I have to survive the RT then Shock Cardio then Insanity! Keep us informed. I'm sure you'll do awsome. Pushup Jacks sound insane! Good luck.:p

I am going to practice this weekend. How funy is that, I am going to practice for my fit test. I will keep you posted.

I HAVE to order Insanity. My birthday is coming up so I think I just found my present to myself. . . is that crazy?

totally agree!

Loving Insanity...but I think it's named after the creator ;) I had to laugh while doing Pure Cardio when Shaun T turned around to show how some crazy jack thingie looked from the back...he was providing more motivation ;)
good luck with the push up jacks...you'll get em!

Can someone please share a little more about the impact level and whether or not I should even consider purchasing it all if my knees are problematic.

The disclaimer at the beginning of each Insanity workout clearly states that if you have any chronic joint issues, including knee issues, then Insanity is not the series for you. From my own previewing and performing of certain of the workouts, if impact is a problem for you than Insanity is not appropriate for you.

Thank you. As much as I'd love to get it, I think I'll have to save my money for something more low impact. :(

i keep hearing about this program. for those of you who are doing it, do you stick with shaun t's program for the 60 days or do you do some of his workouts, then supplement with something else like a Cathe DVD during the same week? i think i read on another post that its basically all cardio. im considering buying these...well, it's between this and STS...

and how does the cardio on insanity compare to that of MIC?? is it way more intense??

I started Insanity last week and I am loving this program!! This program is cardio based, with some resistance moves like crazy pushup variations and some upper body power moves thrown in. (mind you I have only previewed the first month's DVDs) I plan on doing the weight portion from 4DS in addition to these workouts to maintain the results i got from STS. IMHO, the intensity of this cardio is higher than MIC.
As far as what to purchase, it depends on what your goals are. I finished STS in early May and my body changed dramatically during that rotation. I am much more defined in the shoulders and arms and my rear end has lifted to heights a woman my age usually hasn't seen in 20 years!! My thighs did get bigger and my pants are tighter, so I purchased Insanity as a way of leaning out my legs without losing the strength I gained. I am hoping to regain the look my legs had in the days when I was running 5-6 miles 5 days a week.
Both programs are well worth the money, I am very happy to have these in my fitness library. Now if STS cardio would be out in the fall I could go right into that after a recovery week from finishing Insanity!!

Those of you doing INSANITY...how cardio fit do you consider yourselves? Would this be impossible for someone who struggles through P90X Plyometrics. I can run and I can spin but I'm looking for something while we wait for Shock Cardio. I'm not big on step because I can not ever get the footwork down.
Thanks for any info!

I think P90X Plyo is eaiser than Insanity's cardio. It's been one of the first cardio's in a longtime that kicked my butt.

I think that if you are able to do enough of P90X to get a workout and you enjoy P90X, then Insanity is worth trying. I would suggest borrowing (maybe a temp trade) a preview disk from someone (the Plyometrics Cardio Circuit). Most of the workouts (at least the ones in the first month . . .that's all I've done) are similar to that.

Basically, the Plyometrics Cardio Circuit is like doing 4 of the P90X drills (just the work part, no rest), take a 30 second break, do the 4 drills again (but faster), take a 30 second break, do the drills again (even faster) take a 30 second break. Do a 7 minute stretch. Do 4 new drills, take 30 second break, do the 4 drills again (but faster), take a 30 second break, do the drills again (even faster), take a 30 second break. Do the same thing with 4 more drills. Do a couple of punch drills, stretch, fall on the floor.

Pure cardio is more like doing the P90X drills straight through with no break.

The Insanity drills are probably more challenging in total than the P90X drills, but some are the same. I wouldn't say any are easier.

IMO Insanity is much harder than P90X but all that means is that you may just have to take more breaks. As long as you go back to it and keep your HR up, it's still a good workout.
