The Cathe Cam now has sound and...

I need help too!!!

I downloaded everything just fine. This is at my home computer so no firewall. I just can't get any sound!!! I have tested it and it appears I can only get sound when receiving just sound not a picture and sound. When I test it on a video I can see the picture fine just can't hear anything but if I test it on a music clip i.e. a radio station I can hear it just fine.

I swear, I wasted the entire day yesterday trying to get this figured out.

I have tried it with Explorer 4.0 and Netscape Communicator and Windows 95. I have a pentium computer too if that helps.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I've just about resigned myself to not be able to hear Cathe - so sad.

Was My Install TOO Easy?

I have Explorer at work with a T1 line and the installation took less than one minute. It never asked me all the questions you have in the instructions, though, it just loaded. Hope it's not too good to be true!

Well, now at home ...

I followed the posted instructions, waited 22 minutes for the download, then the "do you want to download" question came up again. Well, I figured I had already downloaded it, rebooted, and got the same audio message about how my media player needs to be upgraded. Well, didn't I just do that? I'm confused.

It depends

Did you select "run program" or "save to disc" . I f you chose "save to disc" you must still install the program.
The easiest way is to Choose "run program". This will install the program automatically.

I "Might" Have It Now

I did do 'run program.' I tried it again, waited another 20 or so minutes and when the "do you want to installed Media Player" came up after that time, I clicked "yes." Then it took another minute or so and, supposedly Media Player was installed because it restarted my computer.

About a minute before I posted this message, I got the color bars on the Cathe Cam and heard Amazing Graze and someone talking about inner thighs??? I'll be at work tomorrow morning, and will watch from there. Hope that works. Thanks.

I Gave Up on IE at Work

Even our IT person at work couldn't get the video to work. It's installed and has sound, but no picture. I tried to follow the firewall instructions, but when I click on View - all I see in Internet Options, and clicking on that gives me nothing about Streamining Media with Real Video - I seem to be in the wrong Options area. Well, Netscape isn't all that bad - I'll go watch that without sound.

Mine still won't work for Cathe Cam

I tested mine at other web sites and it's working, but when I click on the Cathe Cam and choose the Microsoft Media Player option, I just see the Media Player logo and nothing happens. I even went to the web site and had it check to see if I had the most current version, and it says I do. When I click on the Netscape option, that still works, but I was really looking forward to seeing and hearing Cathe. Any suggestions?

Proxy Server?

Do you know if you are using a proxy server? Also, how are you connecting to the internet?ie, 28.8k, 56k, cable modem, DSL etc...

How would I know about a proxy server?

As far as I know I don't have a proxy server. I'm using my computer at home. I'm connected at 28.8. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Doh...

Ok... there are 2 possibilities here:

1.) The firewall could be filtering the media stream. That would be a bit wierd because you say you get audio but no video but it's very well possible.

2.) You're going to the wrong option box. This is what all of you should be doing if you are behind a firewall at work:

* When you get to the Windows Media Services video page and see nothing happen follow the below procedure (and this might work depending how your firewall at work is configured):

* Make sure you at least have Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater. This is very important. The way to check this is to click on the "Help" then "About" button on the top menu bar. If you have an earlier version, upgrade to Internet Explorer 5.0 (Install the Full Version because it has media player built in).

* Then go to the menu bar and click on either "Tools" or "View" (depending on which version you got) and then click on "Internet Options". There should be a "Connections" tab. Click it. In there, there should be a button that says "LAN settings" or "Connection Options" (or something to that extent). Click it. Now this will bring up a dialog box that'll allow you to enter "proxy" configuration. Now this might require an IT guy to enter this info in there for you. You have to know what the name of your proxy is and what "port" it uses to get to the outside world. (A firewall basically acts as a barrier so that people from the outside can't connect to your computer directly). This proxy is used for your computer to talk to the outside world because of this barricade. Make sure "proxy" is checked off and all info is entered. (Automatic configuration should not be checked unless there is a computer (or server) that has automatic configuration enabled.)

* Then close all instances of Internet Explorer down.

* Restart Internet Explorer.

* Go to the cathe video page.

* Right-click on the Windows Media Services logo if it did not start the video (takes approximately 10-15 seconds to start the video).

* Click "Options"

* Click the "Advanced" tab in the dialog box that appears.

* Click the "Change" button.

* Finally check off the "Use browser proxy settings". This most likely works. If it doesn't, then check off the "Use proxy" box and configure the proxy again to match the same one used in the browser that we had chosen above.

* If you don't see video, then there is a filter somewhere and it doesn't allow this type of streaming.

Netscape users, don't worry. I'm working on a sound solution. It requires me to reprogram everything though. (Working on it.)

cam problem

Since you don't have a cable modem and you're at home, I think it is safe to assume you don't have a proxy server.
If you're getting other sites with media player, you should have no trouble seeing ours. The only other thing I can think of is your modem (28.8k)is on the low side... or our server was too busy when you tried. Try again on Monday and see what happens.
