The beachbody gang keeps tempting me

:confused:a lot of my friends and colleagues are all heavily into Beach Body workouts and I keep seeing their posts on social media about how great they're doing, and how much weight they've lost, etc. I have tried several of the BB series and I never seem to be as excited as they are, or get as wonderful a result. I enjoy Cathe the best, but I keep thinking there must be a "magic " series of DVDs for me. It's silly, I know. I'm no longer 21 or even 51 but keep wishing I looked as good as the youngies who are into these BB workouts. I don't know if I'm even making any sense. Any hints on how to convince myself to accept my limititations, and be happy with what I am?

I'm not a huge fan of Beach Body. I love PiYo, and I got great results with Body Beast. For the rest of their stuff, not so much. Cathe is my all time favorite, however I do love Kelly Coffey Meyer as well. I'm not a fan of every workout series out there, however I think there is something for everyone. Every once in awhile I get surprised. An instructor that has not impressed me, comes out with something great. I'm no longer 21 or 51, but I figure I have been on this planet long enough, that I pretty much do what I want, and like what I like. I tell my kids, I'm 21 with 40 years experience. After all, age is just a number.

I've bought several BB programs as well. To me, Cathe is still THE BEST! I like the eating program with 21 day fix, but used my Cathe workouts. I also like PiYo. You said you've bought BB before and they don't excite you as much. There's your answer! I just love RWH, when you look at all the options available through this program, there isn't a BB that compares (IMHO). On Monday, I'll be starting the LIS/RWH rotation. I can't wait to see what results I get combining these 2 together...now that excites me. If you're still exercising to Cathe, I think you're being too hard on yourself.

Yeah I much prefer Cathe for my workouts as well. I did really like Body Beast, tried Insanity and Brazil Butt Lift but couldn't stick to a rotation. I am, however, very interested in the 21 day Extreme program that coming out soon as I've heard great things about the previous program with this trainer. I do try and branch out to try others like KCM, Amy D and Amy B etc, but always seem to return to Cathe.
I don't think there's any magic in any of the workouts - it's more the magic of what's in your kitchen!

I don't really get quite as worked up about results, they all have different benefits. I do like some of the BB workout programs, but I don't always want to do a program. some of it is timing, or how it fits into my life. Ones I now think I might enjoy are in no particular order, P90X3, P90 (I still think this would be great with running) Focus T25, also in no particular order Cathe's Xtrain, and Low Impact Series, and I'm embarrassed to say I never really used 4 Day Split that much (not because I don't like it, I do, it just didn't fit quite right). This year I will ultimately have to decide what direction I want to go, I'm pretty happy with what I'm doing right now, everyday. I still read about other workouts, & fitness gear, I don't feel I have to have anything though. That's nice.

It's really not you that needs convincing, you are the same you, whether you read all that stuff or not. It' s just your reaction that changes based on whether you like what you read, or don't like it. That is the ego which feeds on things that want more or better things (or drama) anything that is not right now, like the future or the past. It's not wrong to want to do more or better things, but your reaction to what you read in social media (or see or hear) shouldn't be the determining factor. You either will do those workouts or you won't. You will either get results or you won't, but what happens "then" doesn't have anything to do with who you are right now at this very moment.

One of the goals I read this year was Ryan Hall's "find something to enjoy about every run, good, or bad."
His non-running goal: "to live in the moment, be present every moment, to the best of my ability"

I found that inspiring, being present, one moment at a time. It's a process...which requires that you allow yourself to just be...

IMHO, the drastic results you see often depend on 2 things--where you are starting and what you are doing in the kitchen. ANY consistent workout program will get you results if you are watching your diet. However, if you are someone who is overweight and never exercises--yes, any program combined with a a good diet will get you amazing results.

The thing to consider is where most of the people who frequent these boards are coming from. We are already exercising consistently and if we are doing Cathe workouts we are already doing advanced workouts. I don't look at workouts through the traditional results lense anymore. I have been working out consistently for 10+ years and doing advanced workouts for at least half that time (Insanity grad here). I am not going to ever get dramatic results unless I do some serious stuff in the kitchen. So the results I am looking for are different--mobility, flexibility, strength, muscle growth. Not 6 pack abs because I cannot sustain that type of diet. But I am always looking for ways to improve my fitness. That is how I look at different exercise programs.

Have a look at this little infographic. It shows you what you need to do to get those kind of results and maintain them: http://www.precisionnutrition.com/cost-of-getting-lean-infographic

Good article jengolf!! It's the truth too! I've read MANY articles talking about the almost unattainable looks of those models AND the fact that if they REALY do look like that......it's a lot of prep for the photo shoot. So few of us are endomorphs who possess the freakishly good DNA to have a perfectly lean and sculpted body. We all work hard doing our own things and sometimes we need that boost from others to let us know.....we're normal! Our bodies go through changes with life and we keep pumping and jumping to keep up with those changes, don't we?

I read on the VF boards that BB is going to have streaming On Demand starting this Spring. Not sure of the cost but this might be a way to try some of the systems. I am interested in PiYo and Body Beast so I might try this for 1 month to see if I like the systems, depending on the cost.

I love Cathe workouts and have used them from the very first video tape. That said, I love some variety. BB workouts offer that for me. I also like Patrick Godeau, Weider Ruthless, etc. The BB workouts that I've done so far (Piyo and Combat) are really fun and let me change it up while still getting a good workout. I don't necessarily follow a "program" with any of them (including Cathe). I mix and match as I want. I'm getting the results I want and getting lots of variety, so I'm happy.

That was a great article. Thanks for all the great responses, everyone. I do have to remember a lot of those friends were quite overweight and out of shape to start with. Perspective is sometimes hard for me to remember, ha ha. I am just fine as I am, or at least I feel that way TODAY. I can't guarantee tomorrow.

I have really enjoyed everyone else's response to the op. I have to agree, the six pack is in the kitchen. I bet you have one hiding under fat on your tummy. But, keep in mind that it's atypical for women, and women or men who are attracted to women are looking for women, not ( as my Dad says) a woman that looks like a guy. Women naturally have more adipose, it's what makes us girls. So, get to a healthy weight, do your Cathe's, eat a plant rich diet ( vegan, paleo, or just weight watchers, you pick!) and be happy to be a woman. Sometimes we women want to have a ' hard body' and we don't realize we are projecting onto ourselves what we want in a mate!

I have a lot of exercise videos including Beach body. I like variety and lots of different instructors, Cathe is one of the best, but sometimes (like today) I like to change things up. Even if you don't see immediate results, it's the process that is important. I love the feeling of accomplishment of a good workout. And on lazy days, it's OK to be lazy, Just come back and attack it later. As far as what your body looks like, look in the mirror not the scale. And clean eating will help.
