Hi everyone,

Thank you soooo much for sending me your good thoughts on Sunday! It worked! We had great weather and it was a fantastic run. I fell short of my goal to get 5:30, which was a bit disappointing, but I did finish in under 6 hours and had a great time. At the end of the day, it's all about why we Team In Training peeps were running, and it was for all our friends and family who have been affected by cancer. When you think of it that way, it just puts everything in perspective, and my "boo-hoo" moment about my lost PR lasted all of 30 seconds.

Victoria was AMAZING and I hope to go back again someday. What a wonderful city!

Congrats, Jennifer, on another marathon finish! I was hoping you'd post your report. I love your perspective about what matters in the end...not the time but the experience and a most worthwhile cause. WTG and happy recovery!

Hey Jennifer. Congratulations! I've been looking into Team for Training. I just lost my MIL to lung cancer. Do you have any info on how to get involved? I'm so inspired by you and the others who have run a marathon but I haven't quite made the leap, . scared of my PF. I really want to do one for my MIL.

Hi Janie,

I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL :(. My grandmother died of lung cancer when I was 4 (by then it had spread to her bones and the pain was excruciating). It's my way of honoring her as well, along with way too many of my family members who've been affected by cancer (great uncle died of Lymphoma; aunt is a breast cancer survivor; dad has a blood disease which could lead to Leukemia one day).

Team In Training recruits all year round for their 4 training seasons--I believe right now, they are recruiting for the Winter season. Check out teamintraining.org and you can see where the nearest info meeting is. You'll get all the details and find out more about the fundraising, meet the coaches who'll train you, and ask lots and lots of questions (seriously, that's what they're there for, so fire away :)).

The coaches can help tailor the program for you to make sure your PF doesn't flare up. Just to be safe, I'd visit a doctor or a PT to get it looked at and ask them to help you get it better so you can train safely. It's possible to heal from injury--I've done it! But you do need people who are not going to simply say, "Just stay off it."

Good luck!!
Jennifer

Clare: I raised $2800, which was $520 above the minimum I needed to raise :). People are incredibly generous, even in a tough economy. I was floored.

Gosh thanks. You are so right about the PF though and I think it has been what has held me back from running a marathon. All my Dr's are telling me to just stop running. :( If I do it I'm one of those neruotic type "A" personalities that wants to do good esp so I can do my MIL proud. I'll check out the website. I didn't know that they had trainners. This may really be what I need to kick me into gear, but I think I'll try to see a sports Dr or a foot Dr that can help me with my battle against PF.
If just seems like there is cancer everywhere and I'm really hating it. My FIL has lympohoma, my sisters FIL just died from pancreatic cancer, my mom's uncle died of cancer, . . . it is just claiming the lives of so many, . . :(

Yay! Good for you, that's fabulous.

I know what you mean. I am a volunteer at my kid's high school and every year I organize 2 special lunches for the teachers. I advertise it and beg for donations of food and drink and at the last minute, loads of people pull through for me and make it happen. I have been answering emails all afternoon from generous souls who want to give me 2 trays of lasagna or 4 hot quiches, or loads of cranberry cake and the list goes on. It's a shame it is always the same people who step up and make volunteer things happen, but thank heavens they do!

And you stepped up and then ran for miles, so well done! You have done your bit and made a contribution. Thank heavens for people like you in the world, really.

Congratulations, Jennifer! That is such an accomplishment! Great job on your marathon (and the fund raising!!)
