Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8-9

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

Melani--I hope you feel better soon!! I'd rather have almost anything than a stomach virus.

Autumn--Have you started homeschooling your daughter already? or are you preparing to start at the traditional school time? I am finishing up our school year and will be done August 26. Then we always take September off. I school year round with breaks more evenly dispersed throughout the year. Works for us:7.

Shopaholic---Where are you???

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

Hi Maggie! I haven't started yet. This is very last minute. She was uncooperative in her kindergarten screening March of this year. The teacher suggested rescreening before school started this month, but I've had months to think about it and decided to homeschool. I discussed it with her too, and she said she wants to stay home. I am not one of those moms biting at the bit to get my kids off to school. My mom was the same way. So, I am happy to homeschool.

I am not ready to expose her to what is out there in the real world... she is only 5 and I am not ready for the real world some days. I did A LOT of reasearch, especially the socialization issue, and feel confident with our decision (I let hubby in on it too :). I have to agree that not all socialization is good and that the socialization in the classroom is not real world. She will contiune in dance and gymnastics, and I have some other ideas.

Ok Shopaholic, come out, come out, wherever you are. ;)

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

Autumn you sound very balance in your decision making process. I think you'll have fun time homeschooling your dd.

Melanie....prayers that your recovering today. Hopefully it is more of a one day flu...we'll be praying for the others as well.

Calling shopaholic!!! Where are you.

Runathon...thanks for your help. My problem is he is only 1 1/2 and I can't really "make" him stay in bed. Well actually I could...people do train them to do this at this young of an age, but it would be very hard with him. If I left the room, he'd be playing with EVERYTHING in our bedroom and hopping on our bed etc... Maybe I'll start putting him in a portable crib so he won't have as far to fall if he falls. Hmmmmmm.

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

Good morning ladies.:)

Briee, you can put him down on the mattress and be with him until he falls asleep and then get out of the room (making sure you have a baby gate at the door). I know it takes a while to figure it out but you are on the right track by looking for ideas now. Just do what makes sense to you.:D He is so cute! 1 1/2 you say? Well, I think he is just eatable!:9 :p :* :+

Okay, ladies, back on track: Did anyone exercise during the weekend? I did not. I had such heavy breast pain and my TTOTM came 6 days earlier that expected. My belly was so bloated and tender, I was begining to think I might be pregnant! :D My husband was a little bit apprehensive to say the least. LOL!

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

Hi, thanks guys for missing me. I have been frequenting vf a little more and have been away for the past week at my parents. I also must confess I was waiting in hopes of having a pregnancy to report but alas my monthly friend is here. Now Briee, are you really asking advice for a friend, or are you hiding a pregnancy.Lol. My suggestions for a pregnant person who has not worked out would be either bins of steel/kathy s. or another beginner prego video. Any regular low impact video would also work. There is no strength training in fit for 2 but Charlene prickett's return to slender has strength training. It is a postpartum workout but would be suitable for pregnancy.

Ms. Alexis is doing well, does anyone have a picture scanner? If you do I can mail most recent pics of Alexis and I. Alexis is talking more and more and sits on her potty, ok fully clothes with diapers on, but she does take the toilet paper and wipes herself. She still loves her crib.

Saw my older sister at my parents, I was happy to wear my bikini in front of her as she is wearing the mommy suits with some flab. She remarked how thin I looked. Petty, yes!

RE: Testing Awesome Mom's of ACTIVE Toddler's checkin 8...

Welcome back Elyse!!! I thought you might be checking out VF site, I almost went over there looking for you!!!! As you know, I tried the site out. The site was really slow, I have just dial up connection & vf must have lots of pop ups or something.

I am laughing at the thought of myself in a bikini right now. Hee hee. I bet you look all fit & trim in yours! Yahoo!!! I'm sorry that your monthly came. It sometimes takes a while, as you know. It took 7 months for me to conceive Jory, about that with Justin, and about 12 months this time (I was bfing though). I guess that's okay since I have ZERO LIBIDO now. Poor DH. I"m really going to have to make it up to him after bambino is born. ;)

hiya girls! first time down on this end, but I have a 16 month old and thought I'd fit in :) Aiden is my first. Wow, what a handful toddlers are! Makes being able to exercise at times quite interesting. I am alone much of the time as my hubby just started law school (in addition to work full time). Anyway, just thought I would say hello.

Welcome Debbie! :) :)

Just got back from ER, DH got himself dehydrated with the stomach flu. I feel so bad for him, it lasted about 36 hrs or so with me---sent him to ER after 48 hrs. How come men get so much sicker than us women? Kids are healthy though & I'm just praising God for that!!!! I sure am exhausted though. I have the day "off" tomorrow. Just an 18 month check up, haircut appointment, picture appt at JCPennys, and grocery shopping. I"m also very thankful for paid sick leave. :)

I laughed when I looked at your day "off".....made me tired just reading it. Just going to JC penny's for a picture appointment would probably wipe me out....if it involved all the children!! I'm glad to hear that your feeling better Mel and hopefully your DH will be better soon too.

More welcomes to Debbie!!!!

Glad to hear from you Elyse...we were getting worried. Prayers sent your way for a quick and healthy conception! I'm sure you are...but I'll ask anyway....are you taking your vitamins, especially folic acid and B6's in preparation?

Briee

Welcome Debbie! :7

Sounds like a mom's day off to me. :) Sorry about DH and glad the kiddos are okie dokie.

Briee, my two wear me out... I can't imagine more... though I am open to another. SHHHHHH!

Elyse, have lots of fun and hopefully success soon.

My DS is going to be something else ladies... the other day he slipped back to his room. We keep the door shut because it is isolated from the main living area. His room is baby-proofed but not Jordan-proofed. :) He ususally goes to the end of the hall and comes right back when he discovers he can't get into his room. He disappeared a little longer than usual so DH went to check on him. He was slapping on one of the outlets in his room... DH called him... Jordan looked up, reached over and shut the door. :7 He is only 13 months... what are we in for????? I think he is all boy after his daddy's side of the family based on the stories my ILs share. :)

Oh dear, I need to get to bed. Night!

Autumn

Hi all,
Welcome Debbie! Toddlers certainly keep us busy. My Alexis will be 2 next month, wow, how time flies!
Melanie, hope DH feels better! Men get sicker than us because they are babies!
Briee, I was taking my
Autumn, are you trying for #3?

Melanie, unfortunately my weight was the lowest last year and I've now gained a pound or 2. I do admit though I can still wear a 2 piece. I would like to be about 4 pounds lighter but I do still weigh less than I did before I got pregnant!

Thanks for all the welcomes, gals :) You all are so sweet! I think Aiden has a fever today. He has almost all his teeth in except a couple on the bottom front. I think that might be the culprit. Makes for a kind of whiney, mommy sort of day. That and he won't really each much - just taking bottles w/ milk. I guess he'll tell me when he is hungry. I wanted to go to the park today and meet my friend and her toddler but I'm not so sure Aiden is up to it. Wow, planning seems to always go out the window.

Whew! I believe the kids made it through!!! Yahoo!!! No stomach flu for them!

DH is a different man today. Much healthier & friendlier too. ;) It's amazing what 2 Liters of normal saline will do!

BTW, I didn't make it to the grocery store today. Too exhausted. I did make it thru the other chores though. I was hoping to get a workout in since i skipped the grocery store...but Justin woke up about 30 minutes into my workout. So much for a nap!!!

Thanks again for all your prayers!

Debbie, Justin has 10 teeth. 4 on top & bottom & 2 top molars. He must be working on his eye teeth now.

I'm glad to see you all are still carrying on here and have not abandoned ship! Life is crazy with a capital azy with me & the fam. I am now in Georgia. The little ones and I joined hub here 2 weeks ago. Lily is now 5 plus weeks. Our house is not ready (there are problems with water and mold in the basement - yikes!) and get this, all 4 of us are in a tiny one bedroom apartment.

I am semi-going nuts! Plus, all of our stuff is in storage so I have like 2 outfits to alternate (gross!) and the kids have no toys, etc. I could go on and on. Also, no computer, therefore I haven't been on here.

But it is good to see and read all of your posts on here! I am so tired/out of it that I can't remember everything posted to respond to much of it.

But can you guys give me some tips?

I need some ideas for spending time with the crazy almost 2 year old known as Max!

Also, can anyone recommend a good book on understanding and disciplining toddlers?

I find that my little guy is rapidly becoming an undecipherable creature!

Emy, sounds like lots of stress. Somehow, it sounds like you are dealing! In terms of books, do you have what to expect the toddler years? This is the foloow up book to what to expect the first year. A good discipline book is SOS-help for parents, it covers ages 2-12 if memory serves me right. I believe the author is Lynn Clark. It has different chapters for different ages.

In terms of spending time with Max, utilize family for support. Additionally, do you have a kiddie pool? Alexis loves hers. Also, find a local playgroup so you can meet mothers and he can meet other toddlers.

Emy

Emy, how about getting the book called "Making Children Mind Without Losing your Own" by Dr. Kevin Leman (psychologist).

He is great. I got my copy at bookcloseouts.com.

He is funny and through the years I have applied some of the recommendations I have heard him talking about on the radio.

Funny too.

RE: Emy

Oh!!!! I just composed a gi-normous message and the computer lost it! I am sooo mad!

I'm out of time now though, but must add that we moved to a 2 bedroom today and things are much improved with the extra space. Autumn, I think it's great that you decided to home school your daughter! Briee, just saying hi, and thanks because stomach breathing really helped me. Don't think I got to tell you that. Are you still doing P90X? I'm gearing up to lose some chub now that I am 6 weeks PP.

Thanks, shopaholic, melanie, and runathon for the tips. I need them!

RE: Emy

Hey ladies!

Shopaholic, no we aren't TTC, but we aren't avoiding either.

Emy, thanks for the support. So many people are anti-homeschooling, but we researched and discussed and PRAYED. It is fun... so far... but we aren't into heavy subjects. ;)

Glad to see you around Emy... sure would like to see your baby. Oh, and you are welcome to visit my albums. I am a little proud of my babes. :)
