Sorry, I am in total wedding mode these days. Can you share some details with us about your wedding? What did you love, what would you do differently?

We are planning a May 25, 2008 wedding on the beach in Nags Head, NC. We will have an informal dinner after the ceremony, then a formal reception once we return home from the honeymoon.

Hi,

I got married in the house we had just purchased... we have a large living room and we only had about 40 people. Then we had a reception right there that my aunt and uncle catered! very small and personal and I would not change a thing! ( 23 years and counting!)

i'm getting married on may 10th 2008. i can't wait. this is going to sound bizarre but we are getting married at the IGFA museum which is the fishing hall of fame in fort lauderdale. we both grew up fishing and its our favoirte thing to do together. i say pics of how weddings are set up there and it was awsome. very different but beautiful at the same time.

Hi, Katie!

Your wedding sure sounds special already!!! I have always thought about renewing vows on the beach....simple short white dress...maybe lilly pulitzer style since on the beach, etc.

I am certain that all your ideas will round out the program and it will be MAGICAL! ;-)

I can't really offer many great ideas from my own wedding, as it was 16 years ago, I was 18, we paid for everything ourselves, I think my dress was $300...which was ALOT of money to me at the time! Very low budget, we even just had sandwich fixins for our "meal"! Wow! It is amazing when I think about it now. The good thing is that we are still going strong, and that is what matters the most!! :7

May God guide you on your journey!
xoxo, neicebug :)

Really, my wedding was perfect. If there's anything that I regret it was getting married in a Catholic church. DH is catholic, I am not.

Hi, I just wanted to tell you that you are getting married on my birthday!! I will think of you on that day and send lots of good wedding vibes!

My DH and I were married almost 18 years ago. We had a Priest and Rabbi officiate to honor both families. It was quite beautiful... Our reception was pretty elaborate as I am the only girl and my parents went a little overboard. Of course in 1989 elaborate and "BIG" was the way to go! OOOH, those shoulder pads and bows on my dress!! WOW!

Honestly though, the thing I remember the most is that it was the happiest day of my life. Looking back at the video is something that with each year brings back some of the most amazing memories I could ask for!

Good luck to you. Relax as much as possible and just enjoy this time in your life.

Congratulations Katie, and good luck with your wedding!

I remember my wedding as being just perfect. It was in a small stone church in the city where DH and I met and went to college. We had our reception in an old restored antebellum home. Our honeymoon was on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

The best part of all though, is that next Tuesday will be 25 years to the day since our wedding day, and we are still going strong! :)

Our wedding was, well, fun! Planned it in two months. It was a perfectly bright, sunny, cool autumn day. It was a 10-minute, non-religious ceremony and a three-hour party. A friends' band played and everyone had an absolute blast!

I wore a dress that I would wear if I were getting married today, 18 years later. Simple straight dress with a satin off-the shoulder neckline. Told my two bridesmaids to pick out whatever dresses they wanted, street-length, long, matching each other, I didn't care. Just asked that they be black. Had lots of burgundy in the flowers. Used DH's grandparent's wedding topper for the cake (it looked like a little flapper and groom from the 20's).

Wedding was delayed by 10 minutes to allow the people who had parked on the wrong side of the street to move their cars after the cops came and threatened to start towing! DH put the ring on the wrong finger (which was my fault, since I gave him that hand), the little girl who was my flower girl ("flower pot" she called it!)patted her foot very loudly on the floor until one of my attendants gently got her to stop. The cake almost didn't make it in time. It was perfect and I would not change a thing!!!

Have a wonderful wedding. Don't stress and enjoy your day!!

(BTW, we go through Nags Head every year on our way to Ocracoke.)

Hey Katie--we did almost the same thing! :) Except we eloped--wanted to spend the money on the honeymoon........;-) Also my mother bitterly hates my father & I didn't want to deal w/that (who stays at the house, who stays in a hotel, who sits where at the reception, how do I make sure they don't make contact the entire time, etc. etc.).

We got married on the beach at Va. Beach. I'll never forget it--it was just the 2 of us & the preacher at 8:30 in the morning (we were driving to FL to catch a cruise b/c ex hubby refused to fly). We faced the ocean, said our vows, it was so calm & romantic.

Then we turned around & received a huge round of applause from all the people staying at the beachfront hotels! It was kind of surprising & sweet that all these strangers sent us on our way with good wishes.

I don't think I'd have done anything differently.

Divorced 2 years later (still friends). But I'll never forget that day! I hope yours is as memorable as mine, & best wishes to you & your future hubby! :)

I just wanted to send you best wishes on your nuptuals.

Enjoy the planning as much as you can with as little stress as possible, if you can.

Get a good photographer, that is the best investment of the whole event!

When all is said and done just remember it is the marriage that is the most important part, not the function...That was the joy in the day for both my DH and me.
We had a smaller wedding ( second time around ) at our church then a wonderful cocktail reception at a local Sheraton Suites. We had a lovely library with a burning fireplace ( middle of January in Ohio) and a wall of windows overlooking a gorgeous waterfall. Everyone just had a great time visiting each other and having a relaxing time.
And we had a great cake!!!:7

Hi Katie! My husband and I also got married in Nags Head, North Carolina! It's been almost three years now for us and I have to honestly say that if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't change a thing. We rented a huge beach house for a small group of our family and friends to stay at, we were married on the beach at sunset, had a nice informal dinner for everyone after the ceremony and then had a reception back home after the wedding. The most difficult part was coordinating the vendors from long distance and not really knowing what you are getting quality wise. We really lucked out though and had great success with all of our vendors, though our photographer was a little strange. . . :)

Stay in touch with your florist, minister, photographer and caterer, and be prepared to just go with the flow once you arrive and things are in motion. You'll have the ocean breeze, beautiful scenery, and the man you love - everything else is icing on the cake. Best Wishes! It will be FABULOUS!! :) :)

I totally agree with getting a good photographer. That is one area not to skimp on. I had a friend of the family (who was an amateur photographer) do mine and they turned out HORRIBLE!!! That is the one thing I wish I could change. Actually, looking back at my wedding now, I would have only invited the actual wedding party and close family and gotten married on a beach somewhere. Hindsight is 20/20 though... ;)

We got married on Nov 7 1992 at my cousins beautiful victorian home on Harkers Island, NC (not to far from nags head). It was very small and only had about 40 in attendance. We only invited close friends and family.

The only thing I would have changed would have been to spend more money on the photographer. At my mothers request we used a friend of hers and I was a little dissappointed with them. Everything else was perfect!

Good luck on your magical day!!

Like LauraMax, I was married in Virginia Beach (I live there)in my beautiful church that I've always been a member of. We had our reception in a place that I later thought was not as nice as what I would have liked. We were so determined to keep a certain date that we didn't hold out for the room with a view of the ocean. All of our pictures look a little dark and boring because we were on the lower level without windows. I also regret not having a videographer at the reception. But I have a wonderful marriage (just celebrated 13 years on Monday), so who cares about the minor flaws.

By the way, Katie, I noticed you live in Harrisonburg. I went to James Madison and have the best memories of that place.

Married June 17, 1005. Wedding was in my Catholic Church, with the traditional Catholic Mass.

Our reception was AWESOME! We had a garden reception under a large white tent, paper globe lights, with a jazz band for cocktail hour, DJ for the music, and the biggest, longest outdoor grill I've ever seen. Our guests talked for weeks about that grill and how cool it was! Imagine being able to grill food for 225+ people AT ONE TIME! lol That's how big this thing was. The reception was on a piece of property my parents own, next to where we were going to live after the honeymoon. I'll never forget it!

Gayle

Wow Gayle, I took you for being a lot younger than that! ;) That would have been a VERY traditional wedding back in 1005!

Way to go, Katie. Your plans sound lovely!

My DH and I had some advantage because DH is a banquet manager and has seen thousands of weddings over the years. Allow for more time than you think things should take. We also hired our vendors for their judgement, and kind of asked them to just take care of us. I had a couple special requests, like "green and white" for flowers, "no carnations" and "I want a bigger bouquet than my 'maids" but other than that, I let them do their job. They *loved* me for it!

I agree 1,000% on spending money on the photographer. We'll always have gorgeous evidence of our special day! ;)

I have a picture of my wedding in my office so I'm TRYING to see if I can do a Picture Trail! Bear with me....

Thanks, Shelley, but I have picture trail...I'm just a s-l-o-w---l-e-a-r-n-e-r and I'm trying to figure it out!
