Tell Me More About Vitamix

So many of you listed Vitamix as one of your favorite things in Kathryn's thread that I must ask you to tell me more. What do you make most with it? How is it better than, for instance, Montel's machine?

Thanks in advance to all you enablers! :)

I would have never dreamed that such an expensive blender would be worth it, but now that I have a Vita-Mix I can't ever go back! I use it to make smoothies, and it blends anything into super creamy goodness. I use it to grind whole spices when I'm cooking. I use it to make soup. I use it to make instant soft serve "ice cream" using frozen bananas and cocoa powder. It will blend anything. Anything!

I agree with Bobbi that it will blend anything! My smoothies are so much better now that they're being blended properly. One of the best kitchen purchases ever.

I hope the link to the vitamix website works. There are recipes on the site, and the Vitamix also comes with an awesome recipe book. (At least mine did)

OMG, I don't have one yet, but I really want one! I've seen them in action and they are GREAT! Dr. Joel Furhman highly recommends them in his book Eat To Live. I can't wait until I can get one someday!

Edited: Oh, and forgot to mention that Jessica Seinfeld's book Deceptively Delicious would be a great cookbook for someone with a VitaMix.

I have used my everyday for 3 years now and it still runs like new!! I used to break blenders all the time with apples and other hard to grind stuff in my smoothies. It blends it up in seconds. The only down fall is the noise, (my cats go running  ) but I guess that's because it is so powerful. To clean it you just put a little liquid soap and water and turn it on.:D Linda

There's at least one long thread on Vitamix here. Just do a search.

I have no idea how Montel's machine is, but it's only been out for a short while and looks like a cheaper (as in, perhaps "cheaply made") imatation of a Blendtex or Vitamix. Vitamix has something like 30 years of history of making long-lasting, powerhouse blenders.

For recipes, check out my blog here: I have about 30 smoothie recipes in one of my posts there.
