Taylor Swift.......opinions?

My daughter likes her music and I know she is very, very popular. I am not familiar with her music much. I do listen to some country but Taylor's music just seems to be geared to a much younger crowd and sounds pop to me instead of country.

I tuned into the CMA Awards last night and saw Taylor sing live twice. Is it just me or can she just not carry a tune?

I think she is cute as a button and a great role model for our teenage girls but I was disappointed in her ability or lack of ability to sing live. She didn't seem nervous but her notes were all over the place.

On the other hand, Carrie Underwood continues to blow me away with her stage performances and her ability to sing extraordinarily well.

I did enjoy the jabs at Kanye West though! He deserved every one!

Debbie - I think she is adorable and very talented in that she can write her own music. BUT, I don't think she can carry a tune either. She's obviously not good live. She needs a studio to mix and "fix" her vocals. Even then though, I don't like her voice. I can't stand the squeeky little girl voice. I prefer voices like Shania and Trisha Yearwood.

I like Taylor Swift, love the two songs that are out right now that are so popular. I seen her on DWTS and she did a terrific job on that show, but maybe she wasn't really singing live. I missed the CMA Awards.

Anyways, I think Taylor is a doll and a great role model for young teens.

I agree with everyone else. She's cute and talented and writes her own music. She isn't a great singer but she does play guitar well (or better than I do anyway :) !) I also don't think it's Country music.

Anyone else see her on SNL last week? She was great! Very funny! I think she's an awesome role model too, which is very refreshing!

I think the Kanye thing was a stunt and that it has really boosted her career.

I really like Taylor too but I agree with the OP. I do not like her live for some reason. However I have sang Karoke (which I hate) and I know I can sing better than it sounds because on stage I can't hear myself and it is all over the place. Maybe that is the same with actual singers with a band??

I also love Miley Cyrus but again I don't think she can carry a tune live. This is very weird for me because I love her last two singles and I hear her live and I am dissappointed.

None the less they are both great role models.

I hope to catch the CMA's on CMT.

I'm in agreement with everyone else. I do think she is more pop than country. I love Miranda Lambert though. She is a great singer and songwriter and is more edgy than Swift and Underwood.

I agree with what everyone else said! I am impressed that she writes her own music at such a young age and I love her spirit and attutude.

Now for someone who can carry a tune live...Martina McBride! That woman blows me away. She is another performer who I admire: between her incerdible voice and upbeat personality, I can never get enough of her. There is a concert special running on CMT now and again that you have to catch if you're a fan.

I think last night she was just flat. She usually sounds good when I hear her perform on shows. I thought she did great on SNL. I love that she writes her own music and plays an instrument. That's rare with young singers nowadays.

I like Taylor Swift too. She is incredibly talented, young and beautiful, and I think she may have just had an "off" night at the CMAs. Her second song did sound a bit better than the first, so maybe she just needed to get warmed up. :D She's very cute.

I hope she can continue her path unlike Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and others.

I also thought she looked simply lovely last night. Age appropriate yet very elegant.

I love her songs off a CD or radio, but I agree, singing live she just can not do....

Reminds me of that line from Rocking the Suburbs by Ben Folds: Some producer with computers fixes all my s***ty tracks these days!

Don't know anything about her music, but if she can't sing live, how good a singer could she be?

I saw her on SNL, and though I thought she did a good job acting, her singing that night was a big off for me. Especially her monologe (sp?) song. I thought she was very out of tune with that song. That said, I do think she's a cute girl, and a great role model.

I heard that from several people too. I didn't see the SNL show, but there was also an article about it the day after saying her live singing was awful.

I really like Taylor Swift... I don't think she's terrible live, but i do think it's her weakest aspect. having said that, I admire her for writing her own songs... good songs at that :)

The first time I saw her sing live was on DWTS. I was shocked. I thought she sounded terrible.

I understand that she's a very talented song writer, but her singing leaves a lot to be desired.

I agree with everything that has been said - she is beautiful, great role model, incredibly talented song writer....but does not sound great live. My almost 5yo son ADORES her and I recently got him some concert tickets to go see her live. Now I am scared!!

I think she's over-rated and quite unattractive. Before I even knew who she was I heard a song of hers on the radio and thought to myself "who in the world is this??" b/c it sounded so bad. Different strokes. She ranks right up or down there as the case may be with Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers.
