Taxi woes

Hey Cathe-ites,
I am a sporadic poster, but always enjoy reading the threads. Anyhow,I am in a bit of a bad situation. I was traveling from a conference on the East coast back to the West and suffering from sleep deprivation (excuses, excuses) and needed to take a taxi from the airport back to my apartment. Well, I get to my stop and asked the taxi driver for a receipt. He hands me a small piece of paper with spaces for writing how much cab cost, the date, driver, etc. but did not fill it out, and I certainly was not thinking to write it myself. Then I proceeded to exit the cab on the busy side of the street grabbing my shoulder purse, poster from the conference and a plastic bag, but somehow I managed to leave my computer bag complete with notebook computer, blackberry phone, new camera, a book and journal articles,oh and my Cathe kick-max cd! I walked half a block before I realized I did not have my bag, and I was ready to run after the cab, but it was gone, so I called the cab company as soon as I got to the office of my apartment building. Well, of course, since I didn't have the cab driver's name or cab number the guy told me unless someone responds to his message there is no way to track down the cab. It's going on 2 days and no sign of my things. I am pretty sure somewhere there is a happy finder taking pictures of himself as he does a Cathe cd! I hope he gets DOMS really bad!

I've posted an ad on craig's list in the lost and found and called my insurance and canceled my cell phone --which costs $200 to restart with a new phone and service! I am just sick about this. If you have any thoughts or ideas about what to do, please let me know!

I think I will go curl back up into the fetal position and suck my thumb now.
:( x(

oh my goodness! i would be sick over it as well. it does sound like you've done all you can to get the word out that it's missing. i hope someone on here has an idea you haven't tried yet. i'm so sorry!

Oh, man ~ that sucks!!!! Have you tried calling your phone?

ETA: Or send it a text message?

"I always loved running...You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs."
-Jesse Owens

It was returned to me! Can you believe it? I can't. The creepy part is that I noticed that a picture was taken by the driver who had it--nothing disgusting, just an apartment. Makes me wonder if I had not pursued this more aggressively if I would have seen it again.

I am celebrating big time.
Thank you both for your posts. It was certainly comforting.

WOW!!! That's so great that it was returned. I got nightmares just listening to your story. Congrats!!!

Fantastic news! Maybe the next passenger found the bag and was fooling around with the camera before reporting it. Who knows. Important thing is that you have it all back! Glad to hear.

Cathy :)

keli, I've had things like that happen to me, in NYC no less, and I'm always pleasantly surprised to learn that most people really are well-meaning and honest. Isn't it nice to know? :D
