Target weight being an odd number

I've searched the forums trying to find an answer before I asked because I'm sure there's a simple solution that I'm just not getting. Anyway, if the target weight is an odd number, say 17 or 11 pounds, are we to use wrist weights with our dumbbells or barbell? Thanks for any help anyone can give me!!

Yes Barb, wrist weights or weighted gloves or plate mates or pace weights. I've opted for cheap but strong magnets and I have both 1 1/4 and 2 1/2 plate weights that I use my magnets to attach to my dumbells if the required number exceeds the wrist wts or gloves. HTH.

I found wrist weights at Sports Authority that look like doughnuts and just slip on and off your wrists -- no Velcro closures or anything like that. They make for a very quick changeover between exercises.

I also got the same ones but had to take them back because they were way to big for my wrists. They were sliding all over my arm. I had just went and grabbed them off the shelf not even thinking. So if you got small wrists it might not work. I went back and got the ones that did have the velcro closures. I liked those doughnut wrist weights too. Booh!

Bummer. I guess I'm not the delicate flower I thought I was! (Kidding!) I'm sorry I gave some advice that didn't work for you. It never occurred to me that wrist size might be a problem.

I wish I had seen these first, the reebok ones with the velcro are very bulky and a little hard to get on so quickly. At least they do the job I need them for, but really would have preferred the donut style ones.

Pace weights

I've been using pace weights (as another poster mentioned), which come in 1/2 pound increments (this is useful with barbells, when you want to add an odd number of pounds).

I've found them really useful so far.

I bought the 18-piece set, which allows me to add up to 4.5 pounds per barbell. The carrying case is extremely useful.

They are available here: http://paceweights.com/
