Survey: Your Favorite Exercises?

Cathlete
I just wanted to get others opinions on what your fav exercises are for the following body parts... meaning the exercise that you think gives you the best results and that you also like.
For example, for triceps, you may love to do tricep dips.

1. Legs (thighs) *I know legs/butt kind of are the same
2. Butt
3. Abs
4. Biceps
5. Triceps
6. Shoulders
7. Back
8. Chest
9. Cardio

My answers are:
1. Plie Squats or Stationary Lunges
2. Bridge (like at the end of PS Legs)
3. Plank Positions
4. Concentrated Curl
5. Cable Pressdown (machine) or Standing Tricep Extension
6. Lateral Raise
7. Lat Pulldown (machine)
8. Chest Press
9. Spinning, Step or Jogging

Here are mine

1. Leg Press (quads) Lying Inner & Outer Thigh Lifts (thighs)
2. Standing Butt Squeeze & Bun & Thigh Rocker (butt)
3. Crunches & Planks (abs)
4. Bicep Curl w/Barbell (biceps)
5. French Press also called Overhead Press & Kickbacks (triceps)
6. Bench Press & Butterflyes (chest)
7. Lat Pulldown (upper) Deadlifts (lower) (back)
8. Front & Side Lateral Raise (shoulders)
9. Treadmill, Stationary Bike, and anything by Crunch (cardio)

Of course I just bought the CTX series and Cardio Kicks so I might be replacing my love of Crunch tapes for cardio with Cathe. But right now Crunch is my fave I love their music and I use to be a steady nightclubber (before baby that is) so their tapes are the closest that I could find that had similar music and dance moves.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-15-02 AT 07:34AM (Est)[p]Here's my two cents..

1. Any type of squat and I need to mention I LOVE leg extensions too because of the squeeze they give you.
2. Step ups on a bench while holding dumbbells and also glute blaster.
3. I like doing ab work on a ball....really isolates them.
4. Concentration curls
5. Cable pressdowns using standard and reverse grip
6. Lateral raises are super on my shoulders
7. Bent over one arm dumbell rows.
8. The standard bench press with a barbell or dumbbells is still king.
9. Spinning, IMAX, and interval work doing any type of exercise on either machines or outside. For pure fun I LOVE mountain biking.

In fact, anyone near me in Maryland who would like to mountain bike the trails in this area next season give me a shout. I have no riding partner :-( although I am trying to talk a co-worker into it. :)

The answers I listed above are just a few of the exercises I do regularly. I love mixing stuff up and rounding out with other exercises as well.

GO 24!! Drive for 5 in 2003!

Interesting thread, I never thought about "liking" the execise, but here goes:

1. Legs: squats
2. Butt: static lunges/lunges
3. Abs: basic crunch (I'm a no frills girl!)
4. Biceps: barbell curls
5. Triceps: kickbacks
6. Shoulders: long lever side lat raises
7. Back: barbell bentover rows
8. Chest: bench press
9. Cardio:my favorite would have to be rolled up into 1 catagory which would be aerobics (covers step, hi/lo and kickboxing!)

I have to admit I'm a little anxious about the upcoming workouts with the stability ball. Trevor just made me realize my phobia (thanks Trevor!) of lying across this thing, trying to get balance, and suddenly popping it! I know it sounds stupid, but sometimes I'm still at a place in my mind where I feel too fat to do certain things (sit in a lawn chair, sit on a plastic air filled ball, tuck my shirt in my pants, etc.) I still get nervous when riding small elevators, the first thing I do is look at the weight guideline posted!
Okay~clearly feeling fat AND old on the same day is not a healthy thing!

Oh don't feel like that Donna not today of all days. But I can relate my worse time that I feel the most fat is riding coach on an airplane. Those seats are soooo small and I always feel as if my body just got magically wider, and I half expect the airline attendants to ask me to pay for another seat. Its silly I know but that's how I feel.

Well,I hate working my legs and my butt.I don't know why, but my post favorite thing is static lungesx(.But for everything else:
1.Plie squats
2.Squats
3.Bicycle
4.concentration curls
5.tricep kick backs,or the one where youlie on the step and do one arm at a time.
6.over head press.
7.barbell rows
8.chest press/full body push ups
9.step and running
Some body parts I don't like to work.As you know. But I like working with slow and heavy though.I guess I feel like I have more control.I should work my legs more. They say that you should train your weakest body part first.I should try that .

Hi!
Legs: Deadlifts for hams
Butt: I don't know what they're called, but the thing that hits my glutes best is a move from Kathy Smith's functional lower body tape--don't even have it anymore!--in which you stand on one leg, reach down and forward as if you are picking something up off the floor in front of you (while kind of raising your raised leg back and up behind you). You don't go forward or down much, but your standing glute really gets it after 12 or more reps. You do have to be positioned correctly to really hit it. I LOVE this because it doesn't strain my knees at all!
Abs: reverse crunches and planks
Bis: whatever! they all work :) I like none of them!
Tris: cross body kickbacks OR powerhour-style kickbacks
Delts: SLOW and LOOSE Gripped and lifting-from-the-elbow lateral raises
Back: nothing hits my lats like arm drills!
Chest: I feel it most on TWV pulsing flyes--any flyes will do!
cardio: Christi Taylor! Step Heaven is the greatest :)

What a fun thread! Here's my list:
Legs: Tie between squats and deadlifts
Butt: Butt blaster machine
Abs: hate them all
Bi's: Concentration curls
Tri's: Tie between french curls and one arm cable pressdowns w/ an underhand grip.
Delts: Military presses
Back: Cable row (at home I use bands wrapped around my feet)
Chest: Presses, flat and inclined
Cardio: Running and elliptical crosstrainer

FitnessRN

1. Leg extensions for quads;
2. Squats for bum;
3. 3-count "elevator" crunches like Cathe did in older videos;
4. Hammer curls and concentration curls (tie);
5. Lying slow/heavy french press;
6. Standing side-lateral raises (Slow Heavy)
7. Dumbbell pullovers;
8. Superset of chest press & flies like in Pure Strength;
9. Right now, I love Body Max cardio & leg circuits. My favorite cardio alternates, but is always a Cathe tape or PowerStrike.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-15-02 AT 04:23PM (Est)[p]I'm not sure of all the names, but mine are:

1. Legs (thighs) *I know legs/butt kind of are the same
Stationary lunges

2. Butt
Stationary lunges

3. Abs
The crunches where you lift your leg 1 inch off the step and you
can feel all of your lower abs engage instantly. Very efficient.

4. Biceps
Barbell curls.

5. Triceps
What's it called when you are lying down and keep your elbows pointed at the ceiling?

6. Shoulders
It's hard to choose. I love them all.

7. Back
T-bar rows.

8. Chest
Flies.

9. Cardio
I hate them all.

I had to edit this because I forgot about flies.

Let's see here...

Shoulders: side lateral raises and upright rows

Biceps: Hammer curls with a twist!

Triceps: Lying extensions

Back: Bent over rows

Chest: Flies

Legs/Glutes: Plies and stiff leg dead lifts.

Abs: whatever Cathe makes me do! :)

I really enjoy weight training more than cardio but with Cathe I've become addicted to both! Stay healthy- Susan

My faves:
1. Legs: Plié squats
2. Butt: on-all-fours legs kick-backs with variations
3. Abs: abs on a stability ball
4. Biceps: dumbbell curls with a twist or EZ curl bar curls
5. Triceps: lying extenstions with an EZ curl bar
6. Shoulders: seated dumbbell presses with neutral grip
7. Back: 1-arm db rows
8. Chest: db chest press (on 1 riser incline)
9. Cardio: kickboxing/boxing

>1. Legs (thighs) *I know legs/butt
>kind of are the same --Squats

>2. Butt-- Weighted step-ups onto a bench
Wendy: those I think are called one-legged dead lift and can be done with a dumbbell in one hand
>3. Abs-- all of them
>4. Biceps-- preacher curls
>5. Triceps-- skullcrushers (lying french press) I also like those cross-body kickbacks
>6. Shoulders-- lateral raises
>7. Back-- one-arm dumbbell raise
>8. Chest-- push-ups
>9. Cardio-- stepping, kickboxing, hi-lo, bike
>

My favorites change when I get results with one, and then notice another. For example, results with lateral raises, then wanting overhead presss.

Right now the area of concern is right in front of the underarm. It's not quite bra bulge, it's just a blur there and I want crisp definition.

Here's my "pump" list (a.k.a. "Star Moves") from my workout journal:

1.Legs: walking lunges with heavy dumbbells
2.Butt: squats with a loaded barbell; heels raised on plates
3.Abs: end-of-bench leg raises
4.Biceps: alternating dumbbell curls; work to failure
5.Triceps: close-grip press with barbell; work to failure
6.Shoulders: standing behind-the-neck press with barbell (my all-
time "pump" favorite)
7.Back: standing double bent-over rows with heavy dumbbells
8.Chest: wide-grip bench press with barbell -- flat, incline,
decline bench position
9.Cardio: 4 mile "Level 5 Power Walk" to parade marches!

Ann (I'm psyched for tomorrow's workout!)

P.S. This would be my "dream workout". If Cathe put them all on a video -- I'd be in pump city heaven!
