sun damage

hi ladies, i spent the early part of my years tanning in beds and the sun. i didn't practice moderation either. as a result, i have noticible sun damage on my forearms in particular. when i bend my elbow, i actually have wrinkled skin that is across most of my forearms as a result of collagen/elasticity breakdown. so my question is, are there any OTC products that i could use to reduce this? I know most sun damage is perminant and oh how i wish i would have never tanned or been so obsessed with tanning. i do spend lots of time outdoors but now always apply at least an spf 30 every 2 hrs to prevent further damage. so any tips?

I've been a competitive swimmer, lifeguard, and coach for most of my life, so I can totally relate to your worries having been out in the sun for so many years without adequate protection. I'm not at an age where I'm seeing the repercussions yet, but it's a worry for me.

I am far from being an expert, but have heard that lotions with vitamins A, C, and E are best for reducing sun damage. I also have heard CoQ10 is good for restoring skin firmness.

HTH!!! :)

Neutrogena has some new products called 'Healthy Skin" that a dermatologist (I went to see for a skin-cancer screening) recommended to me for age spots on my face. They contain retinol (vs. some other less-effective form of vitamin A), and used to be available only over-the-counter.

I'm not sure if there were products for the body, or face only, but it's something to check out.

In a nutshell: no. :( Wrinkles & loose skin are a consequence of too much UV exposure--I know b/c I'm in the same boat.

There are products that will reduce sun spots though--I have some on my arms & I put a Palmers cream on every morning. You can really use any brand though, just look for hydroquinine (sp?) & a low % of glycolic acid.

I don't have nay suggestions for you, hopefully one of the ones stated by others will help. Anything is worth a try.
My question fo ryou is this: Have you been to a derm yet? I am 38 & have been seeing one for the past 4 yrs. I was born & raised in Florida & sunburns were a part of every weekend. I started noticing sun damage in my early 30's & once I wised up & went to the derm he found 2 spots of basal cel that I have had removed - back & forehead. That was enough to scare the crap out of me & move me to buy & use sunblock year around.

Good luck & please let me know if you find anything that helps.

yes, i go to the derm once per year. thanks for all your suggestions. i will look into some of the neutrogena products:)

Strivectin will help rebuild the collagen faster than vitamin C or even retinol. Not advertising here, but our company sells it, I know it works.
