Summer Games-Anyone watching?

Wasn't the opening ceremony incredible last night? DH and I were awestruck.

I am watching the swimming today, I get exhausted just watching these people swim, I know how hard swimming really is, I think its totally underrated!:D

I really wish I could get into watching the Olympics, these are some incredible athletes indeed, but I just can't bring myself to watch for a decent period of time, and I really don't know why, if I had to try to put my finger on it, I'm fairly sure it would be political reasons..the surest way to get me to turn off something it to start mentioning political overtones.

I will say that I will never ever forget the emotion of the 1980 US Olympic Hockey Team when they captured the gold, that victory over the USSR was one of my highlights as a sports fan, simply because the US was given a less than zero chance of medaling, let alone being on the same ice as the Soviets.

I haven't had a chance to watch today. I did watch last night and that was amazing. All those that participated really did awesome and you know a lot of hard work went into that.

I love to watch the Olympics. Watched them alot today. Keep thinking what it must feel like to be in that kinda shape. Besides, there is so rarely anything on TV worth watching, it's a nice change.

I didn't get to watch last night. I heard a missed something amazing. I watch as much as I can. Four years ago I had just had my first child so I was at home taking it easy with her and I think we watched every minute of it. Now she's four and she is into the gymnastics so she is watching too.

My DS, DD and I are watching women's volleyball now, anxiously waiting for Michael Phelps to swim tonight! I love the summer Olympics and could watch it endlessly!

Has anyone seen the interviews with Dara Torres? She looks AMAZING!!!

thanks cathy

We're watching them like mad. DD's a gymnast, and has been glued to the TV watching the men's, and can't wait for the women's. DH is now watching the basketball. I was watching the swimming last night (yay, Michael Phelps!!)

I just love watcing the Olympics. The opening ceremony was just too cool to describe. The part with the 2008 drummers was my favorite part. It is so inspiring to see all the athletes. Makes me like to pretend I am one. LOL. Can I get a gold medal for being a "cathelete"?

Kristin

Nope.
I haven't watched the Olympics for several years. And then, I was mostly interested in the winter games, for the ice skating and ice dancing. (I can't even think of what the summer sports are, or any that I'd be interested in watching. What do they have besides swimming and running? Martial arts? Decathalons? All the track-and-field stuff? Actually, that's starting to sound more interesting to me!)

I did, however, catch a bit of the "Puppy games" program on Animal Planet (they take a bunch of puppies of different breeds, and have them 'compete' in various events--basically just a big area decorated to look like a gymnastics floor, boxing arena, swimming pool--with some cutesy voice-over commentary that sounds serious.)

I have 3 Netflix movies I have yet to watch, and am currently getting classes ready for the fall semester which starts in two weeks, so my TV time is limited to the 'must watch' stuff right now (which isn't much in the summer).

Oh the Puppy Olympics might be right up my alley, thanks Kath!:p

PS..I like to watch, and take inspiration from the athletes, it makes me want to push myself harder, and be the best I can be! Corny, but so true!

Two words: Dara Torres.

Now that, I'd like to watch, but how do I find out when her meets are? (I hate to tune in to watch something specific, and then have to sit through something like 'ribbon-on-a-stick' competitions (aka: rythmic gymnastics) while waiting around)

I caught the mens gymnatics and those guys on the still rings OMG:eek: the strength in their upper body is amazing! Holding each move for a full 2 seconds. Makes my shoulders hurt just watching them!

Then they showed one guy with ice packs taped to his shoulders.

if you go to nbc.com they have a schedule posted that breaks everything down.

LOL! Kathryn - DH and I watched the "Puppy Games", too. We got sick of all the commercial breaks during the opening ceremonies.

We're watching the games, somewhat. The plethora of commercial breaks really kill it for me, . One nice thing is that video from a lot of events are being shown online.

I love the Olympics, summer or winter. I watched it almost all day yesterday. I went to bed before the men's 4X100 swimming relay, but I heard a report about it on the radio this morning. Part of what I love about is I get to see sports that are rarely highlighted. Water polo, anyone? The amount of cardio capacity it takes to play that sport is astounding.

I'm like Tiffany--it inspires me to push myself harder even though I'll never be anywhere near that level.

I don't know what's on tonight, but I'll be watching!

I *heart* the Olympics!!! Talk about incredible athleticism! And like Anne said, you get to see some sports that are rarely seen elsewhere - fencing, water polo, synchronized diving, table tennis, badminton... it's really interesting! And like Catherine said, it kind of pushes you to being a better athlete - I mean, if those people can do it, maybe I could too, if I worked hard enough. (Okay, I'm not going to delude myself into thinking I could actually be an Olympian, but you know what I mean ;) )
