Suggestion for equipment

As Chris said, my floor is not actually touching any of the walls. It is at least an inch away from both the back wall and one of the side walls, and it is between 4-6 inches away from the other side wall (the side with the TV). It feels very solid, and does not shift at all.

The moisture barrier is recommended in the Stagestep instructions, and also by the handyman who helped us install it. I'm not that familiar with the details, but I think the idea is that because the concrete is touching the ground below it, it can "sweat" from the moisture. This would ruin the wood floor above it unless you put down plastic to keep the moisture away from the wood and foam. I think it is a standard part of installing any floor over concrete in a basement.

Thanks Chris and JodiJodi for your replies! All the information is extremely helpful, and makes me think I could actually do this (with my hubby's help, of course!).

Thanks again for your help!

What about carpeting???? I am turning a bedroom into a work out room and I can't figure out what to do -- if I should take out the carpet or try to build a floor on top of the carpet. Any suggestions would be great!!!

Thanks

I used to have puzzlemats (1 inch thick) up until last week (there was too much friction leading to uncomfortable pivoting moves, little chips of rubber coming off and after 6 months of use I had to rearrange them because they flattened out). I bought the PaviGym aerobic flooring and put it on top of the puzzlemats and it works great! Although it's just .36 inch thick, it's very gentle on my joints and muscles.
It wasn't cheap but I'd been saving for the past 6 months... and it's almost as good as having a professional aerobic parquet flooring installed.

Chris.
:)

Chris - where did you get your flooring?

Thanks

Chris -

Do you have any pictures of this being installed or anything like that?

Anyone else -

Have you installed it below grade and has it held up?

Thanks in advance!
