Stupid scale

For about a month I have not been exercising as much as I would like and my eating was kind of in the toilet, but the scale didn't really move that much. So, this past weekend I decided to get my butt in gear. I worked out for 1.5 h on Monday and 1 h yesterday. My eating was not wonderful, but it was WAY better than it had been the past month. I get on the scale this morning and I have gained 4 lbs since Monday. Also, it isn't that time of the month. I am going to not let it get me down, but it just kind of stinks!!! :-(

SMASH THE SCALE. Throw it out the window. Give it to someone who doesn't care what it says (a small child or a man would work there).

Seriously.... that number means nothing. The fact that one's weight can fluctuate 4 lbs in a day should be a good indication that we shouldn't be using it as a gauge. How do your clothes feel? Do you take measurements?

Join those of us who freed ourselves from the tyranny of the scale!

Do you record your food journal? You might have eaten clean but all the hidden calories do add up. It is very hard to see your daily total consumption unless you have written down and see the numbers in front of you.

Hang in there and good luck. :) :)

Yes the scale is stupid, I am with Shelly.
I workout about 1-2 hours everyday doing a lot of cardio (and weights) and I eat pretty darn good and my scale won't budge, but my clothes fit better and best part I feel better! I feel strong and I feel good. To me that matters most and I see the muscle popping out which is also an awesome feeling.
Don't let it get you down, just try to work on the diet a little at a time and keep up your hard work.

Hang in there and good luck! You can do it!

scales are current day torture devices. I am the same size I was 15 years ago but eight pounds heavier. I have the same jeans to prove it. I agree, throw that thing out the window (as long as you are ont the first floor).

I gotta agree with this post - the scale is not the enemy, it's not owning up to how you REALLY eat. You can't blame the scale if your diet "is not the best," as so many of you say. Studies have shown that people who are successful keeping weight off long-term weigh themselves on a regular basis, meaning at least once a month. The scale is a valuable tool, not your enemy.
Just Do It! :)

I would never get rid of my scale! But by the same token, it's only one small part of what I use to judge how far I've come...:)

I think it takes some time to catch up with you. I broke my foot and was on crutches for 2 1/2 months. Then I could start walking with a boot on. I ate normal or maybe a bit more and didn't exercise. After three months I gained very little - then all of a sudden within one week my cloths did not fit. It caught up with me. It seems impossible but it eventually did.

I agree. Using a scale with discretion (weighing no more than once a week, and keeping track of trends rather than every little up and down) and as only one part of your self assessment (and most definitley not the most important part) is crucial.

Muscle weighs more than fat. I agree with the previous poster who says toss the scale and get out the tape measure. Or use a tight pair of jeans as your scale--if you can get them buttoned, good. If not, more Cathe and fewer cookies!

I had been trying on a pair of pre-preg levis for a while and when I had tried them on about a month ago they went on but were VERY SNUG and although they would button, they were uncomfortable. Well, a few days ago I pulled them out (after completing the Jan roation) and low and behold, they went from being too TIGHT to a little TOO BIG!!! WOO HOO! :7 :7 :7 Gotta LOVE when that happens! Now I gotta find a NEW pair to use as inspiration!;)
