As for which series to get, I am going to lean a little more towards XT. The reason being is that it's a bit more flexible. With XT, you can chose to do longer/shorter workouts to suit your needs/results/lifestyle. You get strength + cardio workouts in the program -- STS will only give you strength. XT also requires little equipment: a step, stability ball, dumbbell's, will get the job done. Keep in mind though, XT is a heavy weight training program, so you will need to use heavy enough weight #'s that challenge
you. All in all, I LOVE this program. It will surely exceed your expectation
and some
.
But then there is STS [enter "ahhh" feeling here]. This program has some of the most challenging weight training workouts you will EVER do. The series requires more equipment than XT, but you could probably get away with having minimal equipment and still make it work. My only caveat, is that there are NO PRE-MIXES (I would have loved those
). Some workouts can get over the 60min mark -- which might be good or bad depending on how much time you can spend exercising. You are also required to add-in your own cardio w/o's (I personally loved this option). STS gave me fabulous results! I lost inches, and gained strength and confidence. I can't say anything negative about STS because it's an excellent weight training program. The leg workouts, IMO, are OUTSTANDING. I have yet to find any lower body workouts that hold a candle to these ones! LOVE STS
.
So there you have my two cents
. Hope I have helped you

Good luck!
