STS-Microloading

Hi,
I just started STS this week. I currently have neoprene dumbbells. What type of product can I buy for microloading? Not sure if PlateMates can be added to neoprene dumbbells.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Justina

Hi Justina,

I'm not sure if the Pace Weights will work on neoprene dumbbell's (hopefully you get some feedback) but I've been using 2lbs weighted gloved for micro-loading. I like them, they do the job, but my only caveat is that is can sometimes be a pain-in-the-butt to take out the little sand bags/put them back in, during the workout. I often have to pause the workout just to get those little suckers back in . Either than that, they've been my savior for those 5% increases :eek:.

Come over to the STS Deal Of The Day thread if you are interested. We would be happy to have you join us :)

Good luck!

Microloading

Thanks Natasha!
I would love to join the thread. I've been reading it for some time now trying to get some tips for th STS program. It takes some time to go through since it's a pretty long one. :D
So my first week has been fun. I'm finally able to organize my work out area to include all the equipment needed for the work out. For Disc 1 I had to pause the DVD every time I finished an exercise to write it down and get ready for the next exercise. Needless to say the work area was a mess with dumbbells everywhere. :) Last night it was much more smooth. I hardly had to pause the DVD.
Here's a question for you. This summer I'm going to focus on myself and get in the best shape ever (it's a gift I'm giving myself). Today I'm been researching on a product that can count calories burned. Does Body Bugg do that? NOt just counting steps but counting calories burned for the DVDs that I do. I know I need to get my numbers right in order to lose some extra pounds and get in shape. I use Fitness Pal for calories consumed, but I need something that can help me count calories out.
Any ideas?

How are things going on your end? Looks like you're making amazing progress on STS! :)

Thanks,
Justina

HI Justina :)

I use 1# and 2# wrist weights that are easily put on and taken off with velcro straps. I do not believe the neoprene allows the magnetic microloading plates to stick to them, but it depends on the thickness. If you have a heavy magnet of some sort, beyond just a little refrigerator magnet, you can test it out to see. I have two of my DBs with the neoprene coating and I wish now I wouldn't have bought them. For the fact that I am now looking into the pace weights and since I keep them on the weight rack, the coating is getting chewed up and falling off! Ugh!! Hope yours hold up better!

I have the Body Media Fit. The same company that makes the Body Bugg, but I believe this one tracks your sleep if you are interested in that and the online subscription may be cheaper too...like $7/mo vs $10, but I'm going by memory. I had also researched the different kinds and I am happy to say I love my BodyMedia! It seems to be pretty accurate on calories burned. I bought the one that I can link with my iPhone to see current stats and it is a HUGE motivator for me! I'm always trying to get the calories burned number to go higher than the last workout!! Let me know if you have any further questions about it. I bought mine thru the Costco website and it came with a 1yr online membership.

I'm glad you followed Natasha's suggestion as I saw you posted on the STS Deal of the Day thread. You are more than welcome to join us no matter which stage of STS you are on. For most of us, this is our first STS round and Nancy has done it before. We are pretty much all on different weeks. Some of us starting Meso 3 and another just started Meso 2. And a few of us are even going to pyramid back down (meaning we'll do M1, M2, M3, and then M2, and M1) so we may even end up doing M2 together then! We have a great group of ladies over there who are positive, encouraging, supportive, motivating, and willing to help with any questions.

Good luck with your decisions and purchases! I say it is money well spent!! Or is that just my excuse to buy more excercise related products?! Lol. I really do believe if it keeps you working out, then it's a good buy!

Nice to meet ya,

Gina

Thanks Gina! I will look into Body Media Fit now. It's definitely a big motiviation if I can see the calories burned. Nice meeting you as well.

Chat again soon! :)

Justina-

I have a set of plate mates and they stick to my neoprene weight(I have quite he odd selection of dumbells and they stick to all of them) I just bought a set of pace weighs and am hoping they'll stick to them,, too.

Good luck with STS!

Hi Trixoo,
Really? That's good to know! I didn't think they would stick. STS is going well so far. I'm on week 3. Hopefully I will see results soon. It's all about the effort I put in. :D

Hope all is well with you.

Hi Justina -

Good news. I just finished disc 31 (you'll be there before you know it!) and used both my platemates and my pace weights. Since I had them out, I stuck the pace weighs on my neoprene dumbells and they held, no problem. My neoprene dumbells are Reebock brand if that helps.

I'm not sure what options you have, but at the time I was buying, platemates were available in 1.25 lbs, which was a great option for me, because I also had some weighed gloves to help with micro loading. Looks like that weight's not available now and you can only get 5/8 lb. If that had been my only option, I would have gone for the pace weights, since the price is better.

Hang in there with Meso 1...I found it to be the most challenging Meso because there's so little time to get your next piece of equipment and you have to keep adjusting because some of your 1RMs are off. Oh, and there were ALL those pushups! I was very happy to get my rest week when it came. Having said that, meso 1 is also the meso I'm most excited to repeat once I've done finished the entire program. :).

Best of luck!
