STS Legs and Forearm Fatigue......???

Hi Cathe,

I'm loving STS, but I've noticed that with the leg work my forearms give out before my legs and I have to lower my weight. Because if this, I feel like I'm not working up to my potenital with my legs. Is there anything I can do so I can use the proper weight for my legs?

Thanks so much!!
Amy

Hi Amy,

I am not Cathe, could you wear a weighted vest or put the weights on your shoulders to give some relief to the forearms - not sure which exercises the forearms get tired or is it just from holding the weights for the whole workout.

It's the squats and the deadlifts. That's when I hold my heaviest weights. As for the vest.......I have to curtail my spending for a while. LOL!!!

Obviously not Cathe here, but wanted to mention that I've read about this problem before (and have it myself) and the solutions usually suggested are (1) use straps, (2) use an alternate grip for deadlifts (one palm faces forward, the other backward) and (3) keep at it til your forearms strengthen. I've been very tempted to get straps because my forearms get so tired on deadlifts, but I think it's better to build up your forearm strength.

With squats, maybe you use a barbell instead so you don't have to hold the weight during the move.

I don't think you're supposed to use a vest for deadlifts, or anything that is going to alter your balance. Using it for squats is fine because your upper body is remaining upright.

I'm using hooks right now with CLX and it is helping a lot. It's the reverse grip rows that really get to me. I also switched to dumbbells with a smaller handle and that helped.

And - I've notice that my forearm/grip strength HAS gotten stronger from the other exercises that I don't use the hooks with. So now I can go heavier without the hooks than I could originally.

I just wanted to second the use of the hooks. I am using them with CLX and they have been hugely helpful in holding the heavier weights.

I'll join the recommendations for hooks (or wraps).

I also needed some help with grip in CLX (the sets are long and slow, and I was having trouble holding my 30# at the end of the sets for some moves without them slipping and feeling uncomfortable). I picked up a pair of these http://www.amazon.com/Altus-Athleti...e=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1234452172&sr=8-2 and like them.

Lifting straps also work well.

I didn't like some hooks I had before that just had one narrow hook in the middle (that didn't seem large enough).

A lot of people must be reading these threads. I just checked and Amazon is out of stock. Anyone have any experience with this brand: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007IS83Q/ref=pd_luc_sim_01_01

Um, and they don't work with my Epic adjustable dumbbells. They will work fine for barbells but the hook is too small for the handles on the dumbbells. Watch out for that if you buy them!
