STS first time!

I live in South Georgia!

It is going to be in the 90's all week.

It gets crazy hot here, but I don't have to deal with all the snow! So it is okay!!!! I have learned to deal with it!! I am truely are Florida girl, borned and raised!!!. Moved up to Georgia 7 years ago. At least we get more seasons here. Florida all you have is hot, hot, and more hot!!! hahaha :D

Betty--Thanks for saying I am amazing!!! So nice of you!!! If you stay up to date with the posts, I work in a Dr Office. I see what an unhealthy life does, I surely don't want that for myself. So, that motivates me to stay active. I have not always been so active though. Its tough to stay busy, but I feel best when I do.

Yes, I use to be a fitness instructor....now that I am back to my old self, I have thought about it. But, I would rather follow Cathe and let her motivate and push me.

Jean---I wish you were my neighbor too. I don't have any active/fitness friends. Everyone, says I crazy. But, who looks better? hahaha. That wasn't right!!!! But, its the truth!!! I don't think I am a super model by no means. I have areas that I am working on.....But I am not chunky!!! ;) Look around, Americans are not the same size as they were years ago. Just look at a small soft drink. It is the size of a large 10 years ago. :( On the bright side, yes I have a loving marriage. May will be 12 years my husband and I have been together. We actually meet on my 17th bday, and have been together since. We have all the same interests....so we do alot together. All except exercise, he says I am to hardcore and he can't keep up!!! But, I do enjoy life. I am so thankful, I meet you girls. I love chatting with ya'll. You girls keep me motivated.

I am starting the STS/LIS rotation tomorrow!! Can't wait.

Off to workout...tonight I am doing 40 minutes on elliptical and then Ab circuits (ball routine). Be back to let ya know if I make it!!! haha :D

Have a lovely evening!!

Hi girls!
Today I did STS Meso 2 week 1 chest, shoulders and triceps. I feel like I got more out of it than the first time because my form with weights is getting better as I learn this stuff. I worked really hard to keep my neck relaxed and traps/shoulders down during the workout. I have a mirror on my bedroom door and I used it this time to watch myself and concentrate on using the shoulder muscle instead of straining my neck. It really helped to have that visual feedback!
Then I did the step portion of Intensity! I did pretty good for the most part! I still can't comprehend when she turns away from the tv and does a move off the step. She did something called a "figure 8" and I got lost there:eek:. I did the workout on my new cardio club step just using the 4 inch platform to learn the steps. I was afraid I wouldn't get much of a workout doing it on the 4 inch but I was still sweating bullets! It really helped having a lower rise, my old Reebok step didn't go any lower than 6 inches and I would always trip or something when I tried to learn a new routine!

Jean- I agree with Betty about being careful with Afterburn. It's an awesome workout but if your back was bothering you with CSS it will be really tough with AB. There are a lot of moves that require quite a bit of strength and endurance in your lower back. The dixie cup lunges especially! I would probably just do regular lunges at a much slower pace. The running man is another one that's a killer! Just remember to really slow the pace... like do 1 set to Cathe's 2. There is also a premix on there where you just do one round of each set of exercises rather than two. I think that would be a better one to start with. Don't give up on LIS though! You'll get there, slowly but surely! No need to complete the rotation in the time given! :p

Carolyn- 800 mg of Advil, whoa! You must be in some bad pain!:( Definitely rest and stretch! I know what you mean when you say you hate it when your body doesn't cooperate with what you want to do! I'm always saying I wish I had bionic knees that could take anything I threw at them!!

Betty, that's funny what you said about IMAX being kind of old. I was checking out clips and I was like, "whoa, look at that hair!":p Hee!

Missy have fun starting LIS/STS tomorrow! What sort of fitness classes did you used to teach? I always thought that would be so fun but I have terrible stage fright and if I have to be in front of more than 3 people at a time I totally freak out!

Good night ladies!

Colleen--- I was cetified in group fitness. I thought kickboxing, ball classes, boot camp, 30 minute ab classes, and sometimes step. I also had stage fright, but you get over it. If I tried to do it again, I would have stage fright again. I enjoyed helping people with there weight loss goals and helping motivate people. ( I taught only women) That helps. I did it for many years, but now I enjoy working out at home. I have no interest in the gym.

I have an eye appoinment on Thursday....wish me luck. Everytime I go it breaks the bank. My lenses are so expensive. Everytime I get a new pair of glasses it ends up being $500-$600. I do add some extras, like the anti--clear coat???? that helps with computers...etc. But, I have to see. Right? My insurance only gives me a 20% discount. That sucks when you have terrible eyes. I was in a horrible car accident when I was 15 yrs old--- I went through the window. Had lots of stitches, but walked away. Someone was watching over me that day!!! But, it ruined my eye sight. Now I have to wear glasses for everything. Lucky to be alive...so I am not complaining. Will keep you posted on my new eyes!!!! (at least my hubby says I look sexy in my glasses!!!!) hahaha :D

Hope everyone has a nice evening!!!:p

I was planning to do the 3 month rotation this time but decided today that I'm changing my schedule to the 6 month rotation. After doing week 1 meso 1, I want to go back and do that week over. And I know I'll benefit from doing that every week. Glad it's already been thought up before and I can just click a button and it'll show up on my calender! :)

I'm getting the turbo tower next week (ordered it today and Walmart will get it in next week) so that'll mean I won't have done too many workouts without it. And doing the workouts over will allow me to do them better before I move on to the next workouts. My balance is not so great on anything one legged or moving so I need more practice.

missyt - glad you fared so well in that bad accident. I had my eyes checked two weeks ago and had new glasses made and everything ended up being about $500. We don't have any eye insurance so no help there. During my actual exercises, I don't have my glasses on but to look at my card, I need them...seems like I'm flinging sweat, my glasses, the remote, and my card all over the room during my 30 second 'rest' (more like frenzy).

cokonkel - that's what I'm going for, doing the workouts more than once so I can come closer to getting them right.

gratefuldog - sorry you're in pain. I've been painting our barn myself but now that I've started doing STS (and working out regularly again), my husband is helping with the painting so I don't risk pulling something and not getting to work out. My husband thinks working out comes first, so he's helping me with the barn now (it's not the painting that has done my back in but the clean up). :( But I'm well now and won't let that happen again.

Jean - when we work out regularly, the rest is as important as the workout. Talking about physical therapy...some of my pt for my knee therapy was doing squats against the wall. So it's nice knowing that my workouts, if doing them right, will help my knee stay stronger. I just have to make sure I don't push things farther than would be good for my body.

The ab disc I'm doing is STS abs. So far I've just done the pilates version. I plan to eventually try them all. My legs feel ok after doing week 1 legs but I think they partly feel that way because I was so wobbly and off balance for some of the exercises that I couldn't push myself as well as I will when I am more familiar with them. When I get the form right, I think my legs will be feeling the work more. Oh, my abs aren't sore anymore though.

You asked where I was...I'm in Texas :p But if you weren't asking "where" I was location but "where" I was cuz I may have missed a day getting online (can't remember), I was painting the barn. Between that and working out and other normal life things, I can hardly keep my eyes open by 5pm. When I went to bed last night, I couldn't remember if I'd checked in yesterday, so I made sure I didn't miss today. :D (Although I guess for some of you, my today is your yesterday).:)

mar

Good Morning! I did my cardio this morning. I am starting the STS/LIS rotation today. Disc #16 is tonight. Looking forward to mixing up these workouts. I am at work so don't have much time. Its Monday!!!

Mar---I bet the horses are pleased to have a freshly painted home. :)

Gotta Go---Be back Later! Have a nice day!

No workout for me today! Taking my usual Monday off:). I've got some serious upper body DOMS from STS yesterday! Trying not to be too whiny about it! I've got to learn to appreciate those like I do the lower body DOMS! LOL

That's too funny about the guys at the gym looking at themselves in the mirror Carolyn. I used to think the same thing! I thought they just loved looking at their rippling muscles and admiring themselves!:p Who knew it had a real function?

As far as your shoulder tingling, do you think you have a nerve impingement? Definitely stretching and rest from weights are probably good! I hate when I get that tingling. I've had issues with nerve impingement in my neck causing tingling/carpal tunnel like symptoms down my right arm so that's why I'm trying to be cautious about my form and not using my neck and traps when doing shoulder work. I also used to have a lot of lower back pain and sciatica when I was pregnant and even after. Once I got my lower back strong with pilates and Cathe's workouts I haven't had any lower back issues at all! I can do moves like the dixie cup lunges and supermans and it doesn't hurt at all but instead helps strengthen that area. Even my massage therapist the other day mentioned that she could tell the muscle tone in my back and especially lower back is better! Yay!

Mar- hearing you got the tower almost made me go ahead and get it! I think I may have to start warming my husband up to the idea... I always have to start mentioning it several times to put it in his head and get him used to the idea rather than just springing it on him. He's not one for surprises! Especially since it'll be yet one more thing in the bedroom taking up room! I don't have a huge bedroom either! Sometimes when I'm doing a Cathe workout where she has you jumping forward or with walking lunges I end up out in the hallway because I run out of room!

Good luck with the eye exam and new glasses Missy! Mar, can you wear contacts? It's always so much easier to workout with contacts than glasses although I tend to do it in my glasses anyway since my eyes aren't quite ready for contacts that early in the morning!

Oh, and I like to plant a vegetable garden every year too! I've had some successes and many failures. I tried doing my own seedlings one year...they all died after transplanting.:( I usually do well with tomatoes but then last year I wound up getting over zealous with the fertilizer and wound up with tomato trees that bore hardly any fruit. Actually it was more like a tomato jungle!! My husband decided we should try not putting up a fence last year and the deer ate all of our green beans. Hopefully, this year will be better. ;)

Have a great Monday everybody!

Carolyn, after hearing of all your troubles with Les Mills, I will never order anything from Beachbody.

So I had some excitement on Friday night. I went out to dinner with my husband and another couple, it was crowded so we ate kind of late. Anyway, we had a nice dinner, paid the bill and were just sitting talking, when all of a sudden I had a sharp abdominal pain that would not go away. I couldn't sit anymore so I got up to go to the bathroom, and fainted before I got there. Had the fire department there and EMTs, I felt much better and wanted to go home but they persuaded me to go to the emergency room in case I had some underlying condition. So I went out of the restaurant on a stretcher, feeling embarrassed. They ran lots of tests and found nothing wrong, so I went home around 1am. They told me to rest for the weekend so no workouts for me. Nothing like that has ever happened to me before. I feel fine now and hope to get on track with my workouts this week. Maybe I should just take up yoga.

Carolyn---Did you get anywhere with Beachbody? That is insane that you have had som much trouble with them.

Mary---I hope you are alright! Maybe, your body just needed some rest. Let's hope so!!

Mary I'm so sorry about that scary episode you had! I did some "Google-fu". Heh. Could it have been this?
NCS
Have you had fainting spells before? It looks like IBS can trigger a vasovagal response too. I had a friend in high school who used to faint a lot. It's not fun! I've been lucky that I never have. I do have low blood pressure so sometimes if I stand up really fast I get that light headed tunnel vision feeling like I might...not yet though!

Carolyn I can't believe Beach Body! What a bunch of numbskulls!:mad: I will definitely avoid buying anything from them if this is the way they treat their customers!

TTYL!

Normally I do strength training on MWF but this week it'll be TTS. Because of that I practiced my leg workout and now I'm sore. (NOT so DOMS) :D

Betty - I bet I'll like the timing of Meso 2 a lot. I'll probably want to do housework between sets on Meso 3. And you have me oh so looking forward to doing disc 22 after your update.

Jean - I updated my workout manager but had to do it the hard way since I couldn't figure out how to mass delete the 3 month workout so had to do it one at a time. I really seem to fumble around on that calender updating. I'm sure it'll seem simple eventually.

Mary - sorry to hear about your health scare and having it happen in public makes it more stressful. At the same time, it's good that you weren't alone when it happened.

cokonkel - I didn't do it on purpose but I was talking to my husband about something (non workout related) that would cost $1000 and then I said, but I'd rather have the turbo tower before I got "that" and next thing I know, we'd ordered the turbo tower. :p My workout room is tiny though...it's all workout room but it has a treadmill and stationary bike in it along with all my other workout things and tv/vcr/stand, etc. I'm lucky to fit in there too.

gratefuldog - my shoulders do get a good workout because our barn is 40' x 60' and goes up to 14 ft. So I have to use a roller and sometimes I'm using the roller on a ladder. I try to work both sides of my body evenly (I'm obsessive about things like that) so I switch the roller from one side to the other.

missy - my goats and great pyrenees (livestock guardian dogs) love the newly painted barn so much that when I let them back out in the pasture once the new painted part is dry, they immediately go lay leaning against the new paint.

Thanks everyone, it was scary but I really am feeling fine now. I hope it never happens again! I do have low blood pressure like you Colleen, so I can get dizzy if I stand up too fast. The dr. did think it was that vagal nerve, I had pain in the abdomen so my body diverted my blood supply there (away from my brain) and that's why I fainted. The strange thing was my abdominal pain disappeared so who knows. Like I say, I hope it never happens again!

Carolyn, how was the movie?

Jean, be very careful with those sliding disc moves in AB and CSS. When I first did those workouts, I felt them in my lower back and found I really had to stabilize my core to have proper form.

Betty, when I did disc 22 I felt like I had never done pushups before either and did them all on my knees. I have one more disc to do for Meso 2, and then I'm looking forward to getting back to some of my cardio workouts.

Missy and Mar, it sounds like you get great workouts just from your daily activities!

Have a great day everyone!

Good Afternoon!!!

Today, I got a late start, so I only got to do 45 minutes of cardio this morning. Tonight is Tri Sets--lower body. So excited! That is my absolute favorite DVD. I normally do the entire DVD, but the schedule states lower body. I am also going to do 30 min on the elliptical. (to make up for this morning)

I was listening to the radio this morning... and there was a comment made that made me laugh. It stated that 10 years ago the average bra size was 34B---todays average is 36C. The men were excited that "boobs are bigger these days. And I was happy that a female caller stated that no they are not just bigger...it means that americans are fatter." hahaha I enjoyed it!!!! :p

Gotta Go--Back to work. Be back later!!! :D

Oh Jean, I'm sorry you're feeling down today.:( Sometimes it's just hard to avoid those blues. I hope you feel better soon. Don't be too hard on yourself about the LIS rotation. I know you can do it. Just don't beat yourself up if you have to take the slow route. The premixes will help. I believe both CSS and AB have a premix where you just do one round of each exercise rather than two which is a good way to get familiar with the exercises without beating yourself up. If you try Athletic Training too I would do the step portion on just one riser instead of two like Cathe does to make it less daunting. Believe me, you'll get your heart rate up with a 6 inch rise easily enough! I discovered when I did Intensity that a 4 inch platform was more than enough to start with!

Today was disc 14 Legs. That was the one where I literally had DOMS for 3 days after the first time around so I'm curious to see how I feel tomorrow! I really want to get heavier dumbells (the highest mine go are 25 lbs) but I think I need to get that turbo tower first. I'm really hoping next month I'll be able to get it. Gotta get those taxes behind us:(! I'm really excited to get back to the Meso 1 legs like you did today Carolyn. Since I'm doing this modified reverse pyramid thing though it'll be awhile yet!

Isn't it funny how a lady had to point out that on the radio show Missy? The normalization of obesity is getting downright scary in America! People look around and in comparison, often feel like they are totally normal even though they may be overweight or even obese! It's all so totally skewed and it drives me crazy when people don't see it. Even my wonderful hubby seems to be in denial about the gut that is growing on him. I don't want to say too much and make him feel bad but I keep trying to encourage him to get more active. He knows he needs to get back into working out (when we first met he was a gym rat), but he just can't seem to get there yet. He has been really bad about bringing ice cream and soda into the house for himself too. I don't buy the stuff, so he sneaks it in and will have a bowl of ice cream at night after supper and Mountain Dew with his lunch! He keeps saying "oh, I don't eat/drink that stuff too much, not like other people I know" Again, the normalization and rationalization...not good!

Mary- I'm glad your feeling better!!

Mar- you will definitely like the timing of Meso 2 better! It's just right. I felt like Meso 3 was soooo long because of the breaks. During Meso 1 I'd have to use the pause button a lot!

Betty- pat yourself on the back for not showering in your contacts! We always advise patients against that because theoretically there can be organisms in tap water than can bind to your contacts and cause an eye infection. One nasty little critter is called Acanthamoeba. Very serious eye infection! Of course, for years I would shower in my contacts. Bad optometrist!! I've been a good girl the last two years and haven't done it anymore!;)

Later girls!

I did Disc 1 again and it's nice that I'm allowing myself to get a little more familiar with STS before just plunging ahead. Today I could tell that on two exercises, I need to up my barbells by a pound or two.

cokonkel - can't remember if it was you or someone else asking why I don't try contacts for working out (since I complained about having to put my glasses on for reading my card). Anyway, I'm 56  and wore contacts for 25 years but no matter what type I tried, my eyes were always dry. I have astigmatism so I think that may have limited my choice some. Anyway, now that I need both reading correction and long distance correction, I guess I'd need glasses for the reading my card even if I wore contacts for long distance. And now that I have stopped trying to wear contacts and just gone with glasses all the time, it's nice to not have dry eyes and to have to be "careful" with my contacts all the time. And I have really nice prescription sunglasses for outdoors and for riding my horses.

For those of you who have finished STS once or more times, I'll be excited when I've done it (says me who's still on disc one...gotta long way to go) :p but I can also see that it might be hard to move on to something else or to just start STS over. Like maybe the momentum was lost or something? Hard to say really when I'm just starting. But at least I have 4 STS workouts under my belt, just about 6 months more to go before I'm at the end. :D

Good Evening!!! Just finished Tri Sets Lower body and 30 minutes elliptical. I am pumped!!! So excited to be back with the LIS workouts!!!

Carolyn---I saw 2 sets of LIS on ebay!!! That is how I purchased mine. The entire set. Such a better deal than piece by piece. Good luck with returning your shoes and getting new ones. Sometimes, you just have to stick with the brand that works for you.

Jean :):)---Get on that elliptical girl. :):) You know can do this. We are here for you. The LIS workouts are awesome, start slowly are gradually work you way up. Exercise will get you through your funk. I know, my period has been trying to kill me this week, but now its gone and exercise has helped me get up and go!!!

Okay, Biggest loser is on.....I sure hope Conda leaves tonight. Gotta go watch.

Chat later!!!

Have a wonderful evening!!! :D

Good Morning Friends!!!

I got off to a good start this morning. 60 minutes on treadmill and off to work. Today is CSS. Looking forward to it!!!

Well...it was makeover week on Biggest Loser---This season, the contestants were so large that some of them still look extremely obese. No one went home, but at least Conda has a 1 pd dis-advantage for next week. hahaha

On another note, I am ticking right along. Gotta go---Be back later!

Have a lovely Wednesday! :D

Hey, everyone! It's been slower on our thread! Like Cathe said in one of the workouts (I think it's IMAX2), it's getting quiet in the house! Chalk it up to many of us finishing STS, and the invigorating spring drawing us out!
I did the final Legs workout of Meso 2. Yay! Just don't like all those squats. Actually, my knees don't like the squats. They hurt! I tacked on Stab Ball Abs from B&G and its short stretch.
Mar, maybe that's me a few years down the road with my glasses and contacts. I've been wearing contacts for 30 yrs now, and just in the last several months or so have been finding dry eyes, up-close reading issues, and all those annoyances of aging:(! Hang in there with STS. A 6-month rotation is long, so enjoy it. I agree it would help to do each disc twice.
Colleen, that's so interesting about the tap water organism!!! I never open my eyes for fear of having my contacts wash away, so somehow it feels like I'm hanging on for dear life!
Carolyn, how did you make out with Beachbody? Any good outcome?
Yesterday I did something impulsive. I bought a bra top from Feel Fit Wear! It was cute and on clearance (the last one), and with free shipping! The only thing I was unsure of was the one-size-fits-all thing. I e-mailed a question to FFW (first-time purchase for me) and Veronica assured me that it would fit me. Will let you guys know how it fits. So this was transpiring at the same time that Missy posted about the bra size topic on the radio. So funnily coincidental!:D
On the same topic as obesity and normalization of larger sizes, just think about computers and video games adding to what used to be just television where you sit and watch a screen. And smartphones too!!! My kids are in big trouble! I joke to them about their butts spreading wide from all that sitting, but they continue to stare at their screens!!!
Missy, I subscribe to Shape mag, and yesterday the issue came with Allison Sweeney on the cover. They altered her body to make it look thin! I loathe how the media perpetuates a thin woman ideal! Since I watch Big L, I can tell it's not Allison's shape! And yeah, the contestants this season are still sooo fat! Can't figure out why they're losing weight so slowly!
Jean, hope you're getting a workout in there today! Oh, it looks like we posted at the same time! Good job working out! Your Big L comments are hysterical!:D

Today I did KPC minus the stability ball abs at the end. I would've done it but I ran out of time! Plus I've been having fun with a new ab video I got from Amazon this week called Gorgeous Core with Suzanne Bowen. We were buying something else off there for Mark and we just had to get the total to $25 for the free shipping, right?:p It has 6 short ab segments and I did one 12 minute segment yesterday so I'm not slacking too much on the abs!

I really like kickboxing when I'm having major lower body DOMS. It really helps get some blood flowing to the muscles with the cardio and the kicking helps to dynamically stretch and lengthen those poor legs. Disc 14 slayed me yesterday! Not quite as bad as the first time I did it but I'm definitely feeling it today.

Oh crap, they just handed me a file...be back in a few to write more!

I'm back!
So Jean, did you do the shorter premix of Afterburn? I think that would make it less dread inducing. It is definitely legs and cardio! I always got glute DOMS after than one when I first started doing it. I've noticed the last two times I did it though I wasn't really sore the next day. Disappointing (for us masochistic exercisers!) but surely that means I've progressed. I find myself doing AB a lot...I swear I literally feel thinner when I complete that one! I really only feel that way after doing one other workout (PowerStep by Kathy Smith, an oldie). I know it's gotta be all in my head but I swear I feel it! I consider AT a leg intensive workout too, although not nearly as much as AB. The first 20 minutes of AT is tough with the legs, so I would definitely recommend lowering the step height when you do that one and remember...the pause button is your friend!:D

Betty- I totally have to watch my form with squats to keep it nice for my knees. I always used to let my knees bow inward just slightly when I did squats and lunges before PT. They taught me that by strengthening the glutes and hamstrings it would help with keeping the knees aligned properly. Even so, I still have to be mindful of it. If I'm having a tough time and my knees are wobbling all over I have to lower the weight or risk cranky knees. I can tell as soon as my muscle has fatigued and I'm bearing the brunt of the move in my knee joint. I noticed with the sliding back disc lunges yesterday I was getting pretty wobbly! I probably should have lowered my weight there but I was being stubborn!

Mar- I forget, do you live close by Dallas/Fort Worth? Were you affected by the tornadoes there? I have a feeling this is going to be a really bad year again for tornadoes.

Do any of you guys get deer ticks and Lyme disease problems in your area? We have it so bad here, it's pretty much endemic. The ticks are already out causing Lyme and they usually don't get bad until May! It's going to be a tough year for that. Those things are so little and Lydia has such crazy thick hair (plus she hates to even have it brushed and cries that it hurts), it's really impossible to see if she has one on her! Mark just pulled one off himself on Monday and I already have patients reporting they are on antibiotics for Lyme's!:(

Better get going! Later girls!
