STS DEAL OF THE DAY!!!!!

Greetings from the land of the cold :(.
WTH happened over here? What a tease!

Yesterday's w/o was a 5 mile Leslie walk. Bella is so cute, she joined along :). I also did BB Cardio + abs. I've now ranked that one as probably THE TOUGHEST cardio w/o I own, right beside 40/20.

Super excited about the nice DOMS I got from Bulk Arms! I really pushed myself with bi's & tri's -- I know they need it!

My w/o later on today will be Bulk Back. I have decided I'm going to try (I say that lightly) and add-on a 2nd short leg/glute w/o during the week. I really love firewalker's, hip thrusts, stab ball hamstring roll-outs, but unfortunately those don't make an appearance in Body Beast. Today while Bella was preoccupied :p I did a 15min w/o which included: 50 kettle bell swings w/my 10lbs KB, walking lunges with 2x10lbs, 100 stab ball hip trusts w/no weight (Cathe does these in PLB), firewalker's w/my blue band, barbell front and backs squats w/low weight (trying to focus on form going deep into the move). I was sweating like crazy! A great LB quickie w/o .

Nancy
The w/o's in BB range from 30-50min. I don't do any additional cardio except for making sure I walk every single day. Sometimes I will do a nice Jessica Smith dance/walk, barefoot walk, or walk/jog intervals indoors w/Bella if I have not been able to go outside. I really like her! Her youtube w/o's are free: jessicasmithtv's channel - YouTube. A lot of her w/o's are very gentle and low impact, just in case you are interested :). The stretching one by the beach is AMAZING.
Congrats on the tomato! That IS very exciting :).
Your chest #'s are :eek::eek:. Very impressive strong lady! I love it :D.

Justina
You're tea lunch sounded lovely :). I'm glad you got to enjoy your mall outing by yourself (even though I know you dislike it). Any time alone is golden IMO ;). I'm sorry to hear you came out empty, not buying any clothes at the mall :(. I have a sincere dread when I know I need to shop for pants/jeans. They just don't make a lot of clothes that cater to the pear-shaped gal .
With BB, I have also been taking 2X rest days/week. I am still adhering to the rotation, not skipping any w/o's. Obviously, it is gonna take me longer than 3 months to finish the rotation, but I'm ok with that. Listening to your body and resting the muscles is just as important as training them hard, you know?
How you manage to raise 3 children, work full-time, study, exercise, is AMAZING :).

Hi Nancy, Natasha,

Last night I rested. I spent more time making dinner and by the time I was done eating, it was a bit late for a work out. Plus, I was feeling tired. Tonight is BB chest and tris. Looking forward to it. :)

Nia Shank talks about kettle bell swings. How does that work? I don't own one but I'm interested. :D

Natasha, I hear ya about jeans/pants. I can never find a good fit. :( Most are too long. I would have to order online at certain stores. Since I can't try them on, there is always a good chance I have to return or exchange for a different size. I'm not skipping workouts either. I rest when I feel too tired to do it. Sometimes I make myself do it and once I get started I feel fine. :)
So glad Bella is joining you in the workouts. My oldest has stopped doing it with me. She's more interested in talking to her friends right now since school is ending soon.

Nancy,
Thanks. Those plyo pushups are tough. I truly struggled on the last rep. The next time I will strive to do 5 good ones. :D Congrats on the tomato! :D I'm excited for you. It makes me want to go out and buy a plant too! You did get the plant right? It makes me happy that my indoor plants are still alive. Ha! :D
Your weight for the chest work is impressive. I'm doing 15 currently and would love to get a bit heavier soon. Yes, we all have time to pop out some push ups. :D

Gotta get going. Training starts in 30 minutes and I still have work to do before then.

Have a good day!

Justina

Yesterday it hit 93 degrees here :eek:!!!! The night before went down to 40????? CRAZY  !!!! Anyway, I had my windows open for my workout and was drenched!!! I did Tabatacise (first time!!!:p) and Burn Sets Back with Core#2. I chose the premix with the 3 Tabatas and did a little bit of modifying: disc jacks instead of regular jacks and not much "air" on hops and jumps. I am telling you ladies that IT WAS TOUGH!!!!! It just NEVER really let up with those "recovery blasts" in between!!!! Of course, I loved it! Afterward, my DH and I went for a 30 minute walk to really put my foot to the test. I had a little bit of pain but nothing like I'd expected. And today the pain is less that when I just walk!!??? Anyway, tonight is All Out HiiT again with Burn Sets Shoulders...let's hope my foot keeps cooperating!

Natasha, when you say the workouts are 30-50 min is that ALL one body part? ow long are the warm-up/cool downs? Do you do any cardio during that time? I still have this weird thing that tells my I need more than one day per week per part ...what is my problem :p???? I know what you mean about missing things like Firewalkers and other moves. when we were doing STS I really missed some of the other weight training DVDs. That's an interesting aspect of doing specific rotations; you really look forward to moving on and getting to the DVDs you're missing!

Justina, yes, I bought my tomatos and peppers at a local greenhouse and I planted my beans from seed (beans don't transplant well). There is still time for you! As long as you get A LOT of sun somewhere outside you'll do great! That, and keep a certain someone's little hands out of the pots ;):p! BTW, I know you'll move those weights up very soon! With your determination you will press on (pun intended!).

Okey-dokey....must get to work now!

Just a quick post before I head out to the park! It's sooo nice out :). BBL for personals and to report my w/o :p.

Nancy
Attached is a copy of my rotation just so you can see the w/o's and how they are split up :). Unlike anything I have ever done, but worth the trip out of my comfort zone.

Hope you all are enjoying some good weather

Hi ladies, taking a lunch break. Thought I send a quick note to say hello.
Last night was BB Chest and Tris. I worked pretty hard and proud that I pushed myself to the limit. I might have to come in to work tomorrow. :(

Nancy, you hit 93 today? Already? We're at 84 and a bit cloudy right now. This weekend will be around mid 80's too. I don't mind the high temperature as long as it's not too humid. I can't stand humidity. It makes my hair do crazy things. :D

Natasha, hope you're having a nice time at the park! :)

Have a good day.

Justina

Sorry I didn't come back yesterday guys . It proved to be a very busy day! We spent the morning cleaning, then we headed out to the park, then we went grocery shopping. No w/o's though :D it was my rest day.

Ok, so on Wed I did Bulk Shoulder's + 40min Jessica Smith indoor walk/jog on youtube (I couldn't go outside -- it was so windy! :().

I am officially starting week 6 of my rotation today. I'm really happy with my results so far! I can see a definite change in my body composition & strength; more overall muscle definition, my core is stronger, my legs seem to be leaning out a bit. I know that by the end of 90-days, my body fat % will have been reduced, replacing it with kick a** muscles, baby .

Justina
The KB swings really target the glutes nicely. Unfortunately, I need a heavier one since 10lbs just does not cut it for swings :(. With bells, you really need to find the correct weight #, and they are not cheap .
Glad you are liking BB :D. WTG on pushing yourself with chest & tri's! Wait until you experience the Tempo w/o's .

Nancy
I'm so happy you were able to do Tabatacise, even with modifications! I hope your foot continues to get better :).
I posted the rotation so it would be easier for you to see the w/o's. And nope, no additional "cardio", but heavy weight work always raises my HR. I do a lot of walking anyway, and for me it's important to keep my daily steps high. I find that my body is responding very well to this type of training :).

It's getting warmer over here! Hopefully you guys are able to enjoy some nice weather yourselves :).

Have a great day

Hi Nancy, Natasha,
Hope you both had a nice weekend!
I spent most of my weekend at the bookstore studying for my exam. I can't study at home because there are way too many distrctions. I will have to buckle down during the week after my work out to study before bed. Just studying on the weekends is not going to work.

Last night was BB Chest. Natasha, I'm so happy you are getting great results! :D I'm looking forward to achieving the same. I'm sure your diet is cleaner than mine. :D That's something I'll have to work on.

Nancy, how are things going? Did you enjoy your weekend? I have to put my farming goals in the back burner these days. I need to past this exam. For the next 2 months, I will do nothing but study. Well, I will still get my workouts in, but other than that, I won't be doing much.

Have a good day ladies!

Justina

A very busy (and hot!) w/e for us . Saturday we went to the zoo. We all had a great time. No w/o for me that day, except for the hours spent walking of course. Yesterday we went walking to the park, and then stopped off at the ice cream shoppe. I had a new flavor which featured all different types of chocolate. It was heavenly! (no Justina, my diet is not that clean all the time ;)).

Yesterday's w/o was Bulk Legs BUT I must tell you guys a very crucial piece of info regarding my squats. It seems as though I have been overestimating my depth . I tried to gauge how low I was going using my high step and risers -- it seems as though my booty does not even touch the step...at get this...16inches . I then lowered it to 14inches and had a very difficult time touching the step with any weight at all. I am quite embarrassed TBH. In Legs and Glutes, Cathe touches her bum on the step with 5 risers (= to 14 inches). SO I have been 3/4'ing my damn squats all this time . All in all this means I need to get acclimated to the lower squat range while keeping good form, which equals to me severely lower my weight #'s :(. I want to make sure I get the full benefit of squats with a good range of depth/motion, while ensuring I don't injure my back and knee's.
How low do you guys go? Can you please give me an estimate with step heights?

Justina
I love food far too much to be 100% clean all the time. Not saying that "clean" foods are not yummy (I love em' all!), I just personally refuse to live in a world where I can't have me some goodies ;). If I don't get a 6pk, then that's fine by me. I have Mediterranean genes, so desserts will always be a part of my life :p. As long as I can eat well 80-90% of my week, it's all good ;).
When is your exam? Once you pass it, what route will you pursue?

Nancy
Hope your foot held up well this w/e :).

Have an awesome day ladies!

Happy Victoria Day, Natasha!;) Happy start of another study week, Justina!
Yesterday was my rest day and I did Yoga Relax. After my completing my first week of the Xtrain 30 Day Cardio Strength Rotation I can say I had my butt kicked! That was a lot of intense cardio!!! I noticed that I was not able to lift as heavy as I normally do when I just do a session of weight training alone. I also noticed that my foot seemed to be able to handle it all! I substituted Slide 'n Glide for the cardio portion of Hard Strikes and did the boxing conditioning drill for the first time on Saturday. That dang sit-up/push-up combo from Supercuts was at the end!!! AND, I did Burn Sets Triceps & Core#1 too ! WOWIE!!!! Can't wait to do it again this week! All in all I really like this rotation!:D

Natasha, I never really thought about how low I was going down with my squats. I'll have to check...I always made sure not to go lower than a 90 degree angle (old school idea?). I think the depth would depend on how long your calves are: my calves are pretty long; 20 inches from the outside of the middle of my knee to the floor when I have on my shoes. For me to hit the 14 inch step I would be well below 90 degrees. You've got me thinking about this! I'll get back to you on it! BTW, I LOVE Toronto's Zoo!!!!

Justina, glad you're sticking with the workouts while you're studying!!! So important for your brain! My veggies have gone berserk with all the rain and warm temps! I had some apple seeds that I germinated between some wet paper towel and planted on Saturday. They are really taking off too! I think our climate is too warm for this type of apple (an Opal, a cross between a Golden Delicious and a Tango), but I wanted to see if we could pull it off! FUN!!!

Tonight I start up Week 2 of my rotation. It's basically the same stuff from last week scrambled a bit. Tonight is Tabatacise, Burn Sets Back, and Core#2. SWEATFEST!!!! Have you guys done Tabatacise yet?????

Hi ladies!

Nancy, I actually did Tabatha 1 last night. I took a break from "the beast" and went for it. Wow, it was pretty tough and really got my heart going. Even Cathe seemed out of breath. The warm up itself was like a work out to me. :D

Natasha, I actually never gauged how far down I'm going with the squats. I just try to feel how challenging the move is. If by the 5th rep I don't feel anything, I need to go lower. I only have 4 risers (2 on each side) for my step. My booty needs a lift for sure! With standing most of day at work should help with that too. ;)

I know. I love food too. Of course, I try to eat as clean as possible but I find myself gaining easily now at 40 years old. I'm not trying to be a certain size, but I want clothes to look good on my body. Are you seeing increase in muscle size with the Beast work outs or more definition? I don't think I'm eating enough calories to increase in size. When I consume the calories the book is saying my waist seems to expand. I guess if I want to have that "cut" look and size on my arms, I have to eat enough calories for the growth.

This exam I'm taking is for a professional certification in my field. With this certification, I believe I can have better pay and stay competitive in the market. It's not a requirement for the job that I have now; thank goodness. I also see this as a challenge too. I know I can pass it if I really put in the time and the effort. By the way at my age now, I still don't feel like my job is my calling. :) I'm doing this because this is what I've always done. I have been in this field too long to change. I don't hate it but I can't say it's my passion.

If I won the lotto, I would be doing something that I truly enjoy. :D

How about you ladies?? Do you know your calling?

Justina

Ok, I'm back :D

Tues was the JM concert. Meh, it was ok. There were 3 sections: diet, exercise, self. The 1st half of the show was about diet & exercise. I was not really motivated by that part because I already love to make healthy food choices and exercise hard. I get it -- you don't need to convince me Jillian. The part regarding "self" was interesting. She went into depth about how we have the ability to do great things with our lives if we believe in ourselves. Did I walk away motivated and inspired? No, not really. I guess I just expected more for some reason and was kinda let down :(.

It's TTOTM for me, so yesterday's attempt at BB Cardio was half-hearted. My w/o on Mon was Bulk Arms (wait did I report that? Nope :D). I'm feeling I can go a bit heavier on tri's next time. What else is new with me? Oh ya, I cut my hair in a short bob! It was WAY past due, but what can I say? I got lazy .

Nancy
I'm so happy to hear your foot is able to handle the intensity of the rotation!
I posted that link for you just in case you find some helpful and reassuring info :).
I've done Tabatacise a total of 3X (the entire w/o). I don't find it as difficult as let's say 40/20, CCC, or even Imax 3.
Thanks for the info on the squats. My goal is to get to parallel and perhaps a bit lower without straining my back and knee's.

Justina
Good for you to try a Tabata! I know so many people have fear of that one, but once you do it, it's not that bad. Soon you will be able to work-up to all 5 .
You know what Justina, I think that caloric guide on BB is for men only. 3,000 cal is a lot to consume, even for a man!
I'm def seeing noticeable muscle definition in my UB. Unfortunately my LB does not respond as fast :( and I know I have to put in more effort to see results. Regardless, my legs and butt are slowly but surely getting a tad bit leaner. Regarding size, I think my bi's are getting slightly bigger.
I really admire you for taking the plunge and getting that certification. I think you can accomplish anything your heart desires, so don't give up!

Have a great day gals

Hi Nancy & Justina!

Just came to post this for you Nancy. I hope it can be of help:
I Cured My PF By Doing ----- - Page 2 - Video Fitness Forum
It's a PF thread over at VF.

BB tomorrow for my check-in and personals! Have a good night ;)

Natasha, thank you so much for this! I found it encouraging that for many folks, the PF just went away. I also plan on incorporating the taping techniques for long hikes. Very kind of you to be thinking about my poor foot! It does seem to have reached an interesting "limbo" state: not getting worse but still letting me know who's boss ;)!
The cardio I've been doing is starting to pay off; I think I can detect a very slight change in my lower body...feels a little leaner! The weight work seems to be working for my upper body as well, although I have reached a holding pattern on some weights (can't get above 10 reps on the failure set so I' staying put!). Last night was Legs & Rear Delts and I felt pretty good through the whole thing (even those dreaded shin shavers :p). Tonight will be Hard Strikes, Core#1, and Burn Set Tris...of course I'll sub Slide 'n Glide's cardio portion for the HS cardio. Do you have the ability to go up in 1/2 pound increments? I love trying to up my weights in those tiny steps, especially tris and bis.
I'm sorry that the JM concert didn't ring your bell. I think that it would take a lot to motivate a super-motivated lady such as yourself! You seem to have enough drive for several people (even during TTOTM!)! AND a huge congrats on the haircut! I love those sassy bobs!

Justina, I have not really thought about my calling...I tend to do things until I'm not happy anymore, then I re-invent myself and try something else! Right now I'm in a very good place: I have a fantastic boss and the students in our lab are very driven and motivating! I learn something new everyday! I've been with this particular lab for 8 years now which is amazing in academic research! But, to be honest, I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up :p!

Well ladies, I will try to be more diligent about my check-ins...you know how it is when life keeps you busy!!!!

Hope you ladies have a great long w/e . Any exciting plans?

My w/o yesterday was a Jessica Smith (I love her!) 30min power walk + Bulk Shoulder's. I'm super excited that my shoulders are getting stronger w/more muscle definition. I used to often struggle doing rear delt fly's w/8lbs, and now I can do them with ease (and with great form!). Thursday's w/o was Bulk Back. I also felt guilty that I gave BB Cardio a half-a** attempt on
Wed (TTOTM:mad:), so I did TTM hiit 30/20 on Thursday as well :D. I'm not cheating though! I still stuck to my rotation...I just added a little something else ;).

Nancy
I'm glad you found the thread helpful :). I'm not part of that forum, but sometimes I go and read topics just to see if any of it tickles my fancy. That's how I found Jessica Smith, actually.
Congrats on your LB results! That's great :). That cardio/strength rotation looks very effective indeed .
I have weighted gloves that will allow me to go up in small increments. I hardly use them anymore. What I do now is round up to the heavier weight, and only do as many reps as I can w/good form. If that means less than 6, then I'll take it. I have found that this method works better for me than going up in little increments. That's how I actually progressed w/rear delt fly's and tricep kickbacks.

Bye bye for now!

Hi Nancy, Natasha,

Today I'm back to the Beast. Looking forward to it! I managed to study this morning, so tonight I can do what I want to do. :)

Nancy, I know what you mean. At this point in my life, I still don't know what I want to do with my life. My job pays the bills right now. :D

Congrats on the great results you ladies are achieving! Hard work pays off. I have been slacking and it shows. :D

Nothing special planned for this weekend. Tomorrow I will go study at the book store and same thing on Monday. How about you ladies?

Have a great weekend!

Justina

Hi Nancy & Justina!

Hope you guys are having a great long w/e .

My w/o yesterday was Bulk Chest. I didn't have a lot of gas in the tank (TTOTM:mad:) but I gave it everything I had anyway. We also enjoyed the afternoon at Fairy Lake (the park we frequent often).

Today I'm headed outside with Bella to a little Natural Foods bulk store by my house called Nancy's Nifty Nook :D. They have the most amazing all natural baked goods, specializing in gluten-free. Now, I'm not one to eat gluten free just for the heck of it, and thankfully no one in my home has a gluten intolerance, but man Nancy makes THE BEST gluten-free muffins :p. I always get her zucchini & lemon, and pumpkin ones :p. After that, we will head out to a place nearby that has a cool skateboard park. The kids are still in school, so no one will be there skateboarding. Bella likes to play on the ramps (and no, they are not super high!). I will try to take a pic and show you guys :).

Tonight's w/o will be Bulk Legs. I'm doing a little twist on the squats and doing stability wall squats instead. I want to go super heavy, so wish me luck .

Justina
I think it's so great that you are studying and trying to better your career (and your life!). What a very admirable quality.
Don't worry about the slacking. Life get's in the way. You just keep going and pick up where you left off. At least you are not quitting and that's the most important thing :).

Nancy
Hope your foot is doing well! How are the plants? Oh no!!! I bought a few flower's this w/e and forgot to water them . I'm a bad, bad, mommy :p.

Have a great one!

Came back to post some pics of Bella playing at the skateboard park yesterday.

Have a great day guys!

Hi Nancy, Natasha!
Hope you ladies had a great weekend.
My weekend was quiet. :D It was great. I got some studying done and worked out too. Last night was Tabata 1. I love it because it seems short and I always sweat my a** off. :D

Natasha,
I'm sure you're rockin the new bob hair do. I used to have one too. I loved it. Now I can't get away from a pixie. It suits me. :)
Bella is so adorable! Happy that you ladies can enjoy the day outside. All my girls want to do is to hang with their friends. I guess at that age, friends are very important.
You know what I noticed about working out with the Beast vs. Cathe? I feel like I'm more motiviated with Cathe. Nothing is wrong the the Beast but I guess it's because all the people in the DVDs are men. It shouldn't matter. I still do my best when I work out with the Beast. The pace is very fast and I often lag behind and have to catch up. I feel stronger in my upper body. I can do more push ups now. :)

Nancy,
What's new these days? We had a fire drill this morning. I wear my running shoes to commute everyday, so I wore them to walk down the stairs. I even walked the stairs back up; we are on the 15th fl.! I was huffing and puffing by the time I got back up. :D That was my cardio of the day! I was the only person wearing sneakers. I don't know how these ladies can walk down these stairs with 3 inch heels. ;)

Work is going to be crazy this week. I better make sure I get my work outs in. It usually improves my energy level.

Have a good day!

Justina

HELLO LADIES!!!!!
I had a REALLY LONG weekend so I was MIA for a while there! I tend to totally unplug (except to log stuff into to Workout Manager!).
Natasha, your little Bella is A JEWEL!!!! They should give you and your husband an award for making her!!! Glad you had such a good weekend! How did those stability ball wall squats treat you? When I was doing Xtrain legs yesterday I was thinking about how light the weights are in that workout, but I am really able to get good depth in the moves and I already use heavy weights for Cardio Leg Blast so I think it's a good thing! After legs yesterday we went on a 75 minute walk!!! That's right...75 minutes! My foot didn't hurt any worse than after a 45 minute walk so I think a hike is on the schedule for this Sunday!:D
My veggies have been doing great; I have 6 Early Girl tomatoes and 1 tiny little Roma. The peppers look promising, as do the beans! They've been getting lots of sun and I've been watering them every 3 days if it doesn't rain. They love the grow bags! Did I tell you guys that I planted some apple seeds, too? They are still growing so I think I'm doing something right!

Justina, I used to wear high heels years ago...and I don't miss them! I don't know how women do it! I see them just walking along as if they were in sneakers ! I'd be hobbling all over the place! I'm glad I can dress casually at work: a research lab is no place for high heels :p!
Congrats on increasing your push-ups! I stopped doing them here at work because I want to judge the current rotation on it's merits alone. So far I REALLY LOVE IT!!!! My legs are getting quite firm and leaning out a bit! I just started the 3rd week on Monday and I think I may extend it out for a few more weeks! I know that my future rotations will be based on a similar principle.

Tonight will be Tabatacise (the first 3 segments), Burn Sets Back, and Core#2...I think it's about an hour. I kind of miss Supercuts...but I think there is a reason Cathe left it out of this rotation! There is a TON of cardio packed into a week!!!!;)

Hope you both get to enjoy the sunshine !

Hi Nancy & Justina :)

No workout for me yesterday. Only having 4hrs sleep, I was tired as heck :(. I'm not sure why I was tossing and turning until 1am and then woke up at 5am.

This morning while Bella was preoccupied :D I wanted to see how much of TTM Triple Tabata premix I could do without any interruptions. I did it all! That's a great little w/o when you want to be in/out quick. I'm getting spoiled by the shorter w/o's with this rotation :p. I also went on a nice 1 1/2hr walk today. I did not anticipate to be out that long, but because of some construction on the side streets, I had to take a different route on the way to the store. Bella and I ended up in an area I was not familiar with. Funny thing was that we found a new park! Had it not been drenched with rain, I would have let Bella play. We will go back tomorrow :).

Tonight's w/o will be Bulk Arms. I'm hoping to increase my weight #'s.

Justina
I'm sorry to hear the BB w/o's are not motivating you :(. I honestly have no problems with the motivation and the "men only" aspect of the w/o's. Sometimes I like to see if I can beat them in their weight selections LOL :D. I agree though, the pace is fast. Did you print out the worksheets? I find them to be very helpful in knowing what weights I need to use so I am prepared. I remember you saying awhile back that you wanted more UB muscle definition, correct? I truly think these w/o's will give you that. Try your hardest to go to failure on some of the sets. I'm finding that, even for myself, I HAVE TO go heavier on bi's and tri's (with good form of course), or else I know I won't see development there. As far as shoulder's, I've always wanted shapely shoulder's. I'm finally getting them! So try to be patient and hang in there!
Glad you are liking the Tabata's . They get the job done alright .

Nancy
Thank you for the nice complement :). Ya, she is a cutie...sometimes ;).
I did the stab ball squats with 2x25lbs. I found that during the last reps, my legs were struggling to get back up . I didn't think I was going to make it! I loved it though .
I'm so happy you were able to take that 75min walk!
Glad to hear your veggies are doing great. I bet they are going to taste super yummy too :p.
Have you done the TTM triple tabata premix? Some of the moves requires the step, but I think you can easily do it without. The fitness tabata is a real butt kicker .

Have a great day ladies!
