<<<<***STS 6 Month Alumni***>>> --- September

it sounds beautiful up your way, Kim! I have to say, I am loving the fall fragrance in the air and the leaves turning colors! I haven't seen leaves turn colors since coming to California! I love that part of fall!
Sounds like your kids are both very busy with after school things! I am amazed how you guys juggle it all!
Is ds able to do the drivers ed? I know you mentioned he might not be qualifying because of his eye issues? So great if he can!
You guys sure have thanksgiving early! Of course it's not the same thing, but it's just funny! lol
I'm looking forward to thanksgiving this year for some reason. Maybe because we actually get real seasons for a change!
The cleanse is progressing along, it is getting harder to stick with it because I am making yummy foods for the family that I can't have and it smells so darn good! it's like this cleanse has heightened my smelling capabilities or something! lol
Next week will be toughest, they say the deepest cleansing experience is achieved going on only water for the entire week. I am ambitious and want to do it, but will have to gauge how I'm feeling. Then I have to take some real self control and ease into the eating world slowly the week after that and not go crazy....
Hi Rachel and Jo! Miss you guys!

You really are only going to be drinking water for a week? That seems to be a bit extreme. Is next week the last week? Are you checking in with your family doctor?

We are still not sure about ds getting a driver's license. The opthamalogist said he was borderline and to let the driver's office decided. I just signed him up for the normal high school class, it starts in the classroom for the first 2 months, I figure that it's important information for him to have whether he drives or not. So we probably won't know until January whether he is allowed to try on road training or not. I am torn between wanting to ensure he is safe and encouraging his independence.

I'm sure it will be fun to see more of a change of season. Will you get snow where you are?

I have been incredibly busy, so I have had no time to come and post, sorry for that. But it appears we all seem to have lots going on these days!
Rachel, I can't remember when your training is? Wonder if you already had it or if you are getting ready for it?

Jo, how are your doggies doing? Bet they keep you busy, like you needed any help with that! lol!

Kim, I only have 2 more days of cleanse phase 4 left and then I'm on recovery phase. I tried just water and I pulled it off for 3 days but then I just felt miserable and really needed electrolytes, so I finished the rest of the cleanse with fresh juices through out the day which is allowed on this phase. I can tell I'm getting good results even not having gone the toughest route mentioned in the guide...;)
It's amazing what a little juice can do for me! I have lots of energy and am getting all sorts of stuff done. But boy am I looking forward to eating regular food! The smells have been driving me crazy...lol!

I'm officially done with the cleanse! Yay! I did some circuit workouts this week to get back into things after a week off and next week I'm starting the october rotation.
How are all of you? What are you doing for workouts these days, if there is time for workouts?

I discovered Pintrest while I was trying to keep myself out of the kitchen during my cleanse, omg, that place is addictive! Have any of you been on there? I have found some amazing vegan and vegetarian recipes that I am just itching to try out! I made vegan sour cream with the kids the other day, made with soaked cashews, it was actually good! Dh even gave it his seal of approval! I think I will be tinkering in the kitchen a lot the next few weeks... LOL

Hi Cendrine! Sounds like you have found a new interest and something fun to do in the kitchen! I'm really not that creative when it comes to cooking.

We were out of town for Thanksgiving. We went to Saskatchewan for my aunt and uncle's 50th wedding anniversary and a large extended family Thanksgiving dinner (80 people). Nice to see people I don't get to see much. It was interesting for the kids to see the small town/farm life!

I finished off the September rotation and am now on the second week of the October rotation. Enjoying seeing the updates on Xtrain!

I completed my first week of Cathe's October rotation this week. I have been very busy, this week dd's Girl Scout troop started and I was leading the first meeting, had to get Oregonized as far as GS training and back ground checks are concerned and had to help the other moms in the coop figure out what they are doing and when they are doing it, now I'm trying to make our calendar work with signups and all. Lots to do! But dd enjoyed it and ds found a brother of a gs to play with during the meeting so all involved were happy.
On top of that I managed to try one of the vegan cheese recipes, cashew cheese with cranberry and thyme, dh loved it and said he would set that out for any company to eat, herbivores, carnivores, omnivores... lol! I like it a lot myself and I made a raw rosemary almond cracker in the dehydrator to go with it, also very delish! I'm glad I'm getting some more use out of my dehydrator, it's been sitting idle for a while...

Thinking of doing meso 1 and 2 after I'm done with october rotation.
What have you been up to Kim?

Jo and Rachel, hope you are doing well! Miss you guys!

Well hello Jo! Tell us...how OUTOFSHAPE are you? LOL!

Hello my friends. Well the first 90 days of my reemployment is complete and things have finally started calming down. (More on that later.) And they've calmed down enough that I can get back to a CLEAN diet and today started exercising (for real!). So I did Power Hour today...and... you're going to laugh (but we've all been there). I had to use a 12 lb body bar for squats, etc. and 3 and 5lb dumbbells. I can barely walk! :p What does that tell you? I have not been this out of shape in 25 years! Oh well, I'm looking for that good muscle memory! Also, I have 10 lbs to lose.

I'm going to go get a shower and then come back to give you more updates!

Cendrine, sounds like you're settling in!

Kim, winter is already on its way?

Can you guys believe it's the end of October? Scheesch!

Talk later!

I didn't get back like I planned...but I'm here! LOL! I cannot tell you how sore I am! I cannot believe how SORE I am! I hurt everywhere! I hurt so much I could not even consider doing cardio today! LOL! :p My chest, hams, biceps, triceps, quads, back, and shoulders hurt!!! What does that tell you??? On the same token, I'm enjoying every minute of it!

DH and I did take both dogs out for a long walk today so I got some low impact cardio, but not like we all like!! We took them for about a mile so 2 miles total. Everybody is napping right now so apparently it was a good walk! LOL!

Talk to you soon!

So fun to have you back, Jo! I'm glad you have some time for yourself now! We missed you around here!
I was supposed to finish the October rotation for workouts, but with the Portland rains hitting last week, my back has gotten worse (something to do with the weather pressure) and I've had to ice and take it easy. So I'm back to low impacting Cathe's workouts and am sticking with my own dvd choices for now. Hopefully I'll get better quickly. Have you preordered the xtrain series? I have and am getting excited about it coming out!

We went to the pumpkin patch last Friday and dd promptly wanted to make pumpkin pie out of her pumpkin! It was one of those recipes that I adapted to make it super healthy yet yummy at the same time. Dh is taking the last piece to work tomorrow. They requested an encore...;)

I'm really in the fall mood, am just itching to cook fall meals and treats! Not gonna help with the trying to be good part ...

Kim, how have you been doing?

Sorry to hear that you are suffering Cendrine! Hope you heal fast!

Good to "see" you Jo! How are the DOMS now?

Tomorrow is the last day of the october rotation! I have followed the Sept and Oct rotation almost exactly.

I'm also getting excited about XTrain and to see what the November rotation may be.

Hello!!!!!

I know I have been gone for sooooo long but things had kinda got busy!
I got to read up on some of your posts...Cendrine, I was shocked that you were going to do only water for a week! I am glad you know how to listen to your body and went for juicing.
That leads me into my week long adventure...yoga teacher training and a detox no less;);) that was more interesting and informative than I expected!
There was no sugar or white flour. No meat other than salmon two nights. Cendrine , if you get the chance to go, there is a little cafe in a yoga studio called Yoga Pearl on Davis St. downtown. It is called Prasad. The owners are the ones that did all the catering for the week and the food was amazing. We did have one day of mainly liquid with the exception of Brussels sprouts with our miso soup.
I am telling you, my skin was the best it has ever been by the end of this week...made me see that sugar might have been the cause for all those skin issues. Even when you think you are eating pretty good at home, things just seem to sneak in.

Now for the work of the retreat. They were super long days. They started with a 2 hr practice , starting at 7am to 9am. Then an hr to get a shower and eat which was a feat in itself. I was in a room with 9 other women, on the top floor of a house with about 20 women in total to share 2 bathrooms! So I always opted to walk down the hill to the bath house. I always got a hot shower and I never had to wait! Haha:p
Then at 10 we met for anatomy lectures until lunch...then back at one for alignment and adjustments, then a break, back at 4 for more alignment and adjustment and pranayama ( breathing practices.) and meditation. Then dinner , then a miscellaneous lecture topic ranging from philosophy, prenatal yoga, nutrition, and business of yoga. All totaling to about 14 hrs a day and that did not include the morning rituals that we were encouraged to take part in to do the cleanse. This included morning neti pot and this lemon, apple cider vinegar, honey drink.
I am still processing all I learned but if there is one thing that I could tell someone is that if they get the opportunity to go off and attend something with like minded individuals...DO IT! Not unlike a Cathe road trip , Kim! I am sure you will agree that there is something that the energy of being with so many that you have one powerful thing in common with! There is nothing like it!
I have thought about you guys often and missed our community!
Hope you are all doing well!
R

Good to have you back, Rachel, and thank you so much for sharing, it sounds like something I would enjoy doing, and I have book marked the restaurant, definitely going there soon!
I can tell that my cleanse helped clear me and is allowing nutrients to absorb better, I wonder if you can tell too? It was such a restrictive cleanse, though, that it has been quite a challenge not to go crazy now that I'm off it. My family wanted to go to a burger place yesterday and I decided to not be a legalistic as far as my nutritional convictions go and went along with it. I was bloated and having all sorts of discomforts the entire time after and I could tell that the food was not digesting at the speed I'm used to... I'm gonna have to pass next time...
Workouts for me are lower body focused and cardio for now, because the bicep tendinitis is acting up again after several months of peace. Annoying, but I hope with me leaving the upper body alone at the onset of the issue will help resolve it faster.
Our weekend was super busy, we had gotten apples from a friends overproducing tree and I needed to do something with them fast. The kids had all sorts of requests, so I ended up making dehydrator apple chips, juice, spiced cider, French apple pie with cashew cream, apple tarts, apple fritters and apple sauce.... Needless to say, I was in the kitchen a lot, but felt good because everything was made with good ingredients, no refined sugar, all whole grain, etc.
Better get to start my day now....

What an adventure you had Rachael! Sounds like it was awesome experience!!!

Hoping that your back is better Cendrine especially now that you your bicep is bothering you!!

I finished the October rotation and decided to try something different. I am trying shorter (30-45 mins) more intense workouts first thing in the morning instead of longer ones in the evening. I'm using Cathe's Feb 10 rotation as a general plan. There is so much info on HITT, tabathas, etc so thought I would see how my body respond to these shorter, more intense workouts. And it's nice to have my evenings a little more free! So that is my plan for November!

I'm sure enjoying the XTrain updates!

I think doing that for your November rotation is a great idea! Especially with it becoming busier and all with the holidays. I think I would join you but although I have my back at a place where I can manage it, the intensity of the shorter workouts would probably be too much right now. Hopefully I'll be able to do it sometime though.
Hope you are all doing well. Today was low max for me. If someone was watching they would think I'm weird, because I'm not using my right arm at all to give it the rest that will hopefully get it back to normal ASAP...

Wow! We've all really lost touch haven't we??? I'm just going to send a note out. I am not going to school, quit my job (due to stress), and am trying to recapture my fitness!!! If there is even a remote possibility we can continue our check-in, please let me know! Otherwise, I wish you all the best and please continue with your fitness!!! Never stop!

Much love!!
Jo

I want to add girlfriends...it's okay if we call it a day! Let's just end it appropriatitly! Best of luck to everyone!

Hi guys,

Jo, I've been thinking about you and how things are. I always love to hear from you, so if you have more time to check in, I'd love to keep in touch!
I'm dealing with tendinitis again, grrr, so I have not been able to do upper body workouts, but I have been mapping up the lower body instead and extra cardio in place of upper body work. Dh is starting meso 3 this week, the kids have been working out with him, which has been fun to watch! I'm looking forward to xtrain have you ordered it?
Can't believe it's almost Christmas. Spent last night wrapping presents...:)

How are your dogs?

Oh Cendrine! So nice to see you post! I'm up early (for me) and getting ready to go to the gym. As I mentioned, I'm trying to recapture my fitness and am working with a previous employee to help her get fit. (Is that my calling?) Anyway, we spent two hours at the gym on Tuesday and last Saturday and I'm getting ready to go meet her now as she took today off. She needs to lose about 30 lbs and has NEVER worked out so I'm having lots of fun working with her.

I'm hoping after the first of the year to make my way down so maybe we can meet for lunch or a snack on my way to mom's house.

I spent all day yesterday working on my job search and actually got calls from 4 recruiters after posting my resume. I'm really not in any hurry to get a job, but I do need to work (whah! :p)

Hope you are all enjoying the holiday season!

PS. I'll start a new thread for us on the first of January! :D

Cendrine, I forgot to add...yes I ordered Xtrain and bravo for the kids working out with DH! Tendonitis sucks! I have GF that has it too from working in her garden (really?).

Puppies are fantastic! DH has some photos which I'll have him download and I'll post! We've had Emma in puppy class for the last 12 weeks but she's still naughty! LOL! But we love her so much! She is currently in heat so we're dealing with that but it's not as bad as I thought (I've always had male dogs). However, interestingly enough...Ibo is acting more like a father than an interested male. He's aware she's in heat but kind of ignoring her.

Jo, I'd love to get together when you come down! Just let me know. We are coming up your way but not long enough for us to get together so I'm glad there will be time later!
Ibo's such a good boy! His good behavior will rub off on the puppy sooner or later! Lol!
I'm glad you have some time to work on getting back in shape, I know how bad I feel when I fall off the fitness wagon, and how great it feels to get back on. It's always fun to hear of your fitness projects, too, I hope you don't mind me calling them that... What have you been working on at the gym with your friend? When you start from zero, there is so much, I would get fired quickly for trying to get them to do too much too soon!
I'm experimenting with essential oils as medicine substitutes, just ordered some to try for the tendinitis. I hope it gets me somewhere. Ever since doing the cleanse I have stayed away from all drugs completely, kind of don't want to mess up the hard work I've done, if you know what I mean....
Good luck on your job search!
