--->STS 6 Month Alumni<---1-03-10 WoooHooo

Good morning and Good week everyone! I am really starting to feel rejuvenated and ready to start sts tomorrow! I am so glad the rotation got posted.

Cendrine, that was definitely a lucky guess! I wish you were starting with us too but I definitely am glad that you are listening to the advice of your chiro and not doing more damage by starting early. I will be thinking about you the entire time until you come on board. That deal on the espresso machine is exactly why I love Kohl's too. It sounds like we all can appreciate a good deal!

Kim-I for got to ask you the other day....Do you have more than one set of the step or do yawl only do work outs together that do not need that pc. of equipment? How was the first day of sts? Was it just as hard as the first day the first time?

Jo-I can't wait to hear about your vacation and hopefully see some pics when you get settled in! Are you starting the rotation today or taking a day of rest first?

Sorry for the abrupt leaving yesterday...Our friends and us were going out to eat dinner and they got here a little earlier than I thought so I had to get off here and go entertain till DH got back from his dad's. We went to a little town called Avinger that has nothing in it but a pretty famous steak house (for around here) and a cool little Mercantile store. I think the store keeps the same hrs as the restaurant! 4 to 9pm lol. It is a real neat place. It is family owned and operated and even the sons , who have full time regular jobs during the week, work there on the weekends because they love the atmosphere!

I have a big day of laundry and cleaning to do and replenishing my stock of soups in the freezer. I am going to use that smoked turkey today and see if I can get a couple of different soups out of it! I know one will be mexican inspired but I do not know what the other will be. I think I saw a cooing light recipe that looked interesting. It was Creamy wild rice and smoked turkey soup. So that is what I am planning so I better get on with my research and get some laundry started.

I hope everyone has a nice Sunday!

Rachel

I just finished STS Disc #1 (Chest/shouders/biceps) with DH and then HiTT 30/30 with dd. I am tired!

Rachael, I do have a full length step, and a smaller step like the ones they sell at Walmart and those kind of places. DD sometimes just used the topper off the high step. I have two stability balls. I've had to make the rules that it's my workout so I use the equipment I need and for the most part chose the workouts. Insanity worked well as there was no equipment/no choregraphy so everyone could do it. No one else likes step workouts and there wouldn't be room for them.

With the weight workouts I'm always organized and know what weight I want. DH always just uses what I take as a guide for him. Mesocycle one moves so fast that I had to pause a couple of times for us to get organized.

Rachael Sounds like you had a nice dinner last night! Did you get your hair done yesterday? Did it turn out okay?

Cendrine The eating is definetly better this weekend although it still feels holidayish so a few snacks nothing too bad. I am down one lb! Are you going to be walking outside?

Hello!!! Happy January!!!!!

I admit..I'm tired! But, I got up and did Disc 1 today. It was a struggle...partly because I'm still a little tired from the drive yesterday and partly because I haven't been working out. When we started STS last year, I had completed about 4 or 6 weeks of S&H and 4DS so felt much stronger. Today, I had to drop a couple of the weights from my original 1RM but that could be because I'm just TIRED! Anyway, it felt GREAT to workout today and I'm excited to be doing a rotation again!

I have to go pickup my mail (including my STS Cardio package!) and do a couple of errands so I'll come back and tell you more about my trip. But wanted to at least let you know I'm here and I worked out!

Hi Guys,

Kiml and Rachel, that's funny, I was wondering about if you have more steps than one and all that, too!:p I'm like you when it comes to workouts, anyone is welcome to join but I get first pick of everything....;)

I'm gearing up mentally for getting up earlier again and doing my first walk in ages.... I will hit the treadmill for now, but am hoping to take the kids out in the afternoons for an extra walk eventually.

It's interesting, I have just looked at my arms in the mirror yesterday and I am acutally surprised how much muscle tone is still visible, so I don't feel quite so bad, but I'm still itching to get back to lifting. One thing at a time I guess.

Rachel, how did your soups turn out?

Jo, you are probably busy previewing, aren't you!

I can hardly wait for my blender! Now that I know what I am getting and how much easier it will be I am getting quite fed up having to work the food down into the blender and trying to make it puree it nicely when I know the other one would just suck it in without me ever having to touch it...

Kim, I am so excited that you already lost 1 lb! High five! I am still doing well here too! It feels good to be back in control and deciding on protion sizes and sticking with it. The holidays have kind of gone out of control for me a little bit. How often are you going to weigh in? I'll report in on how my clothes fit and if the belt can go tighter....Hopefully soon!

Yea Jo...I am glad you are back and glad you got your work out in!

Well I had a day of cooking and laundry and movies. We are going to vege out in front of the tv tonight before preparing for what ever is coming our way tomorrow. It has been nice to have a soft week but I am really ready to get started tomorrow.

So not too much going on here, just cold but not as cold as yall up north. I think we have more chance of snow this week so I will keep you posted on if we ever get any:rolleyes:

Kim-I did get my hair done yesterday. I go to the same guy and have now for about 5 or 6 yrs so I just go in and he just does his thing. He knows what I like. I am really fair with freckles so I can not do blond so I like to keep it dark. I have been burned too many times by bad hair stylist so I found him and like him and so I have to stick with him!
I love how you said they all know that is your workout so you get to use the equipment you need and they get the leftovers! That is great!

Jo-Can't wait to hear about your trip!

Cendrine- I hope you are having a great day!

I will bb tomorrow to let you know how sts went for me. I am anticipating being a little weaker but with muscle memory hopefully that will pass.

Rachel

Okay, I'm back - finally! I went and picked up my mail, my STS package, went to the mall and did some returns and exchanges, went to the grocery store (no food in the house), got the laundry going and just finished making my now famous tuscan kale soup! :p Whew! Needless to say, I haven't gotten to preview yet!! (I know you're thinking "Jo get your priorites straight - preview THEN do everything else!") So quick note to you girls and then I'm off to preview!

Back to the trip. Well it was cold; I think I mentioned we did walk a couple of times. GF is still recovering from minor back surgery so we were careful. We walked about 3 miles one day and then the other day only about a mile. They have two dogs (big shelties) so we walked them as well. Also Kim, we didn't ice skate as we decided it was too risky for GF back. And it snowed off and on and then warmed up the day before we left (into the mid-30's). Generally it as between 16 and 25 until that last day.

New Years was fun! They had invited about 5 other couples over and so we spent all New Years Eve day cleaning and making appetizers! They have a big house and it took me an 1.5 hours to vacuum the entire house for her! (I counted that as a workout!) Anyway, the evening was low key and everyone left by 11:30. Then the fun began! LOL! GF bought red and black hunter plaid PJ's for our DH's and red & black plaid nighties for us along with red & black plaid hunter hats! So lots of pictures! It was a hoot! I'll post some when she sends them to me! We were up until 3:00! I haven't stayed up that late in YEARS! So it took us until about 1 to finish cleaning up their house after the party and then we were taking pictures and singing (we were really being goofy!) And no, we weren't drunk! I know, crazy huh?! Oh and of course the guys were complaining the whole time.

New Years Day was very low key. I didn't even get a shower until afternoon and then I helped GF get her new Kindle setup, fixed her computer for her and then we munched on leftovers all day. The guys ended up watching a movie and GF and I watched our own movies (it was Jennifer Aniston movie day!).

Yesterday we left around 9:00 a.m to come home. Saw quite a few deer both on the drive over and the drive back yesterday. Oh and there were two bob cats in our yard today. They've been hanging around lately! Anyway, other than a drink NYE night and a couple of glasses of wine during the week, I ate very good! I also think my body enjoyed the break from working out! But, besides cleaning for GF and cleaning for my mom, I was in no way seditary! Also, since we go to MT so often, we now know their friends there so it's very enjoyable to visit with people in spite of barely knowing them! Also, GF and I did go shopping one day and it was everything I could do NOT to buy more stuff! I've really been in the shopping spirit this year! (Trying to help the economy!) But with my reduced hours, I just have to behave!

I'm going to save this post before I end up losing it!

I think I mentioned before that GF has autoimmune problem. They thought she might have lupus but decided she doesn't but she's become allergic to a lot of foods. (She's doing very well though!) Consequently, she's had to change her diet to eat like me! So eating at their house was they way I like, lots of fruits and vegetables, soups and fish. She can't have diary or citrus or may favorite pomegranites. So, besides me having some wine and a drink, I ate the way I always do the whole time. Eating healthy and lots of raw makes Jo a happy girl! :D So no weight gain for me over the holidays!

My thumbs are on fire! I just realized I got a teeny tiny piece of jalapeno under my thumbnail and when I picked up my water glass just now, the wet hit the jalapeno, that hit a dry skin spot on my thumb and I am BURNING! (Put jalapeno in my soup!)

Cendrine, I can't wait to hear about the new blender! So when is it supposed to be here? Also, glad that you are going to be able to start walking. Aw, who'd a thought walking could make one so happy! :D I'm glad you've retained your tone! I've always read that toning stays months whereas you begin losing your cardio endurance much sooner. So you'll continue to look fabulous for a long time! :D

Kim, congrats on the 1lb start! I couldn't help but immediately think of a one pound advantage from TBL! I think it's so great everyone is working out with you! What fun! Oh that reminds me, I haven't got to look at my Wii Fit yet either! I'll have to open that after I preview!

Rachel, glad you are starting tomorrow! So do you have red in your hair? What color are you? I'm like you; I've been going to the same guy forever for my hair! When you find a good one, you don't want to change! You mentioned about maybe being a little weaker (like I was today) but I defintely think I'll be stronger again next week. Oh and it was fun to do some exercises in Disc 1 I have forgot about! So do you guys have a new job to go to this week? What's on your agenda?

Okay, I'm going to go preview...I'm so excited! Talk to you all again later!

Thanks for your update, Jo, it was fun hearing about all the stuff you did! It's nice that you got to eat the way you like even while staying at your gf's house! That's what I enjoyed about teaching the inlaws about green smoothies, I got to just make the smoothies for us as well that we usually have. Breakfast was provided by the hotel and I was able to stick with fruit and oatmeal, which I considered good for the situation!

I can't believe you have bobcats in your yard! Yiikes!!!! That would scare me! Would any pet cat be able to survive outside? We have our cat indoors because of the coyotes, they are getting farther away now because of the developments going up all around, but a few years back, when we had to leave early for the airport one day, there was actually one on our street... and we are a gated community... Are bobcats pretty docile? I just get scared just because of their size..

Do let us know what you think about your Wii Fit! Dh and the kids are enjoying the Wii a lot, I can't quite get hooked on it... But then I was never much of a computer game person anyway.

Love Jennifer Aniston movies! How fun to be able to watch it together! Sorry about the jalapeno under your nail! Ouch! Did you go put some water or something on it?

Oh yeah, Cendrine you talking about the smoothies reminded me...I got GF's DH to buy her a juicer so I got her juicing while we were there also! Also, her DH is the one that is staying with us (since last April). His job just ended on 12/23 and he got a new contract that starts on the 8th so he'll be back! It works out okay; we're all so close we all feel like family! And he goes home almost every other weekend.

Back to STS Cardio! YOWZA!!! I just previewed HIIT 40/20 and MMA Boxing since those are the 1st 2 I'll be doing this week. They both look great! Though I know they'll be tough, 40/20 looks doable except for those forward jumping intervals around the step. I do great with fast feet shuffle and jumping up on the step and those kind of moves, but I suck with those forward bounding jumps and our favorite: TUCK JUMPS! So I'm physched to do 40/20 tomorrow! Though I haven't looked at Step Moves, I'm thinking I may try and do a little of it tomorrow night since it's scheduled for Friday. I hate doing a new cardio routine when it's part of the rotation - I want to at least already be familiar with it! :D

Oh last thing...I ordered the new 4lb weighted gloves (2 lb each), the new weighted vest, the firewalker loops and the mini mat for the step. I think they're supposed to be here on Wednesday - my little present to myself! NOW I'm done buying things!

Are you tired of me posting yet? :p I just wanted to say we tried to set up my Wii Fit...but of course the batteries on ALL the remotes are dead! So I can't provide an update on that yet! Stay tuned! :D

Good Morning All!

I did HIIT 30/30 and boy was it tough! Again, since it was my first time, even though I previewed, I wasn't mentally quite there! I did fine on most but could not efficiently do the forward bounding jumps with the tucks (2nd or 3rd interval) so had to modify. Also, on a couple, I couldn't quite do Cathe's pace. And, on the last interval, the wide jumps, I had to lower the level of the step as my brain was saying "No Way" to jumping up on 4 risers. No question I'll do better next time! So I was still thoroughly worked out and content with my performance for the first time through!

It was tough coming in to work today but I'm here! My gal I'm working with lost another 5 lbs over the holidays so she's at 60 lbs lost now! Woohoo! Talk to you later!

Oh I forgot to mention...got some good DOMS going on in my chest & shoulders! And in my upper lats under my arms (from my attempt at pushups I suppose!)

Jo, I know what you mean about the step workouts in the rotation, I like to be familiar with them too, if they are part of a real plan....
Let us know how you like it!

Too bad about the batteries! I'm sure you'll get into it soon enough, though. Hey, I want those firewalker thingies too, and the mat for the step! I'm also seeing wear and tear on my lifting gloves.... Sooo, I think I am going to send in that story of mine and see if I can earn some free Cathe bucks!

I have trouble with those forward bounding things and the tuck jumps, I actually love doing the fast feet a lot. Good job for working hard! And what a fun way to start work by seeing your work gal 5lbs lighter! Awsome! You are coaching her well!

I did a good walk this morning. Going in for the Chiro this afternoon, I'm not gonna tell that I walked and see if she notices anything by adjusting me.... If she can't tell, then I think I can keep going.... I tacked on a stetch from Stretch Max, but that didn't feel too good on my back even though it felt great on my muscles. So I guess I'll just do some leg stretches after walking for now.

School started in our house today, and it's a bit slow going. But it's nice to be back to a routine!

I think you should , Cendrine.!!! Good Luck!

Sorry but we did start a new thing today and it was hectic this morning and probably will be all week. It is another one of those fixer kind of deals where someone has really messed some stuff up and now they want us to go in and make it look like nothing happened. I hate those kind of things because while we are working on the floor everyone that walks in thinks we are responsible for all the messed up stuff. I feel like I need to tell everyone that comes in that we did not do it! My brother's MIL works there as the head nurse over ER and ICU and this is ICU that we are working in and I hate for her to think we do bad work so I had to take her around today and tell her it wasn't us. She probably wonders why we are there then! Oh well right?

Jo-It sounds like you had some great fun on NYE. It sounds alot like my GF and I. We do not need drinks to be goofy! What fun is life if you can not poke fun!
We have had a bobcat in our yard before too. It was quite some yrs ago though. It was trying to get stalking our puppies. Thank goodness DH was here and he spooked it. I am the same way with all my work outs too. I just don't feel it is the same if I have not done it at least a few times.

Cendrine-The blender countdown has began! T minus and counting ...lol. I just can not wait to hear how much easier it makes life for you!:D How was the first day back to school? We have had coyotes in our yd too. We are real country here and I some neighbors up the rd. that have chickens so we are a popular crossing for them.
Did you start the walks today?

Kim-You are probably busy trying to keep warm because it is super cold here so I can not imagine what you have up there! I think the lows are going to be in the teens> Burrr

It was disc 1 today and it was tough but it felt good to get started. I think my weak point was really the push ups, go figure:rolleyes:, but I think since I have been doing a lot of endurance lifting here lately that it might have had me prepared for it. Tomorrow Hiit 40/20...can you ever be prepared for that??? We will see. I have to go preview it now so I will see yall to morrow after my butt kicking!

Rachel

Hi Everyone!

I just saw I posted I did 30/30 - I did 40/20 today (scheesch!) I quickly previewed 30/30 before I left home so it was the last one on my brain.

Cendrine, excellent on the walk! So what did the chiro say? Did he notice? Also, SEND IN YOUR STORY! I can't wait to get the firewalker bands and the step mat. I currently put a towel on my step which is probably fine...but I really want the mat!

Rachel, you crack me up about not wanting people to think the problem is your fault! I would be doing the same thing! You feel like they are sizing you up and thinking what a "screw up" you are! The bob cats look like they are about 40 lbs (I dunno); we have coyotes too. Yesterday was the first time though I've seen the cats together. I usually see one or the other.

Hello Kim! How's your day?

DD and I did HIIT 40/20 after work. We've done all 3 of the HIIT workouts and both agreed this was the hardest. DD is now doing an Insanity workout and Ab Ripper(P90X) with DH.

Jo Sounds like you had a blast with your friends and you sound so excited for the new rotation! Yesterday's news had a great story about a bob cat just north of you close to Vancouver. A bobcat was about to attack an 11 boy who was in his backyard when his dog, Angel, ran between the boy and the cat. The RCMP were called and managed to shoot the cat and the dog was injured but alive. The boy was not harmed at all.

Ouch on the jalapenos? I remember rubbing my eyes once while making salsa, was that painful. LOL Are you ready for TBL tomorrow? I watched that new show last week, A Big Happy Family, and enjoyed it but it's on the same time as TBL. I've ordered the 2 lb weighted gloves as well.

Cendrine That would be so neat to see your story! You should definitely send it in!! So what did the chiro say??

Rachael Sounds like kind of a frustrating job your doing this week, hope it goes well! It's actually warmed up alot this week, I just checked the weather is currently 3F/-16C which is beautiful for skating/skiing. Saturday morning when I woke up it was -41F which is where Celcius and Fahrenheit meet -41F is -41 C. So too cold all weekend to do outdoor activities when we had the time and now it's nice:rolleyes:

I had to laugh too, Rachel, about you worrying that the stuff you are fixing refects badly on you... As much as I don't want to care what other people think, I find myself back there way too often... One of these days....

Good news from the Chiro! She's ok with me walking, maybe I can even start weights next week! I'll have to take it easy and one step at a time, but things are looking up! I only have to go twice this week to the chiro, that's down one from before and next week if all is well I can cut down to once a week chiro. I'm so looking back to getting more time! These appts have kind of broken up our afternoons.

Kim, your daughter did hiit with you and then went and did insanity!!!!! That's is just amazing! Oh the energy of youth!

By the way, you all, you were so encouraging, I went and sent in my story... I got all nervous when I hit the final send button....! Keep your fingers crossed!

Cendrine! GOOD GIRL! My fingers are crossed and I'm sending you, and Cathe, "Cendrine will be chosen vibes!" LOL! :D I'm so glad chiro ok'd you for walking! And good news that you're improving nicely! Now where's that blender?!

Kim, I'M SO EXCITED FOR TBL! Crazy huh? I'm glad you said 40/20 is the hardest! Whew! Got that one down then! LOL! Gosh you live in a cold place! Did you grow up in that area? It's like us with the rain, if you're used to it, it's no big deal, but really...that's COLD where you live!

Rachel, are you going to watch TBL with us?

Okay guys, got the Wii Fit setup...and...the reason I'm typing to you now is DH has taken it over!!! LOL! It is a hoot! Lots of fun! I have the Wii Fit Plus so there's more games on it. I've only done a few as DH saw me doing this bubble balance game and now he's snow boarding.... Here's the real hoot. It does your BMI, weight, etc. It said to be healthy I need to be at a 22 BMI and it says I'm 18.1 so it suggested I gain 21 pounds! Whereas with DH it suggested he lose 40! DH is very tall with big bones and NOT overweight so that's funny. But you know how these are very generalized! Anyway, no, this isn't something I would workout regularly with, but would be good for fun and when I just want to do a little more of something. The balance programs are not as easy as they look. I can't even tell you how many there are yet, but quite a few. Also, when it was checking my balance, it told me my balance was off a little and asked me if I trip a lot! LOL! (Well...sometimes!) Anyway, whenever he'll give it back to me, I'll play with it some more. This looks great for people trying to get active. Also, since I'm beginner at all programs right now...who knows how difficult they will get and all the easy programs are very short so I don't know time lengths.

I'll tell you more later, but so far it's a lot of fun!

Oh, I forgot to tell you this: after it checked my balance, my posture, etc., it told me my Wii Fit age is 74! Say WHAT? So obviously I have some work to do! LOL! But of course standing on this little platform is a lot different than my workout area. And, I only had 10 minutes with it before DH took it! He's been at this now for over an hour!
