Strengthening ankles

What is a good exercise to strengthen ankles? and also one to get rid of shints slpints?
 
I've read working out barefoot (not with weights) is a good way to strengthen feet and ankles. I do a lot of my kickbox dvds barefoot.
 
Not Cathe here, but ditto to what the other poster said.

Going barefoot will cause your feet and ankles to engage the muscles that are normally "hindered" while wearing shoes.
Don't be surprised if you're a little sore for about the first week that you try it.
