Strange dog!

The other day, when I was at the animal shelter where I volunteer, a woman was picking up her dog who had run away, and he was the strangest looking dog I'd ever seen.

Imagine this:
1/2 golden retriever (head, coat and tail)......

and 1/2....Basset hound (body type and stubby legs!).

It's like he had a size 10 head on a size 6 body, and he only came up to my knees!

I asked the woman if she knew which parent was which, and she said she had tried to imagine it, but couldn't figure it out! I think either a step stool was involved, or some gymnastics!

My brother and SIL have a "grabador". It's head and upper body look like a labador and the hind quarters are more like a grey hound!

Now that is funny! I saw a half Lab/Basset hound a few months ago and could not stop staring...it was just so short....:)...Carole

My next dog will be a basset/lab cross. I think they are adorable! I have seen a few of them and I could tell instantly what the mix was. I think I actually like any dog crossed with a basset!

I have a Basset Beagle cross. She's just the sweetest little thing. She looks just like a Basset all the way back to her waist then she has a small behind like a Beagle. She does have the Basset tail. It looks like someone stuck the behind of a Beagle on the front of a Basset Hound.

My brother had a lab/basset mix. Like the dog in the petfinder picture, she looked like a normal lab when she was laying done, but once she stood up, you wondered where the rest of her was. Short little legs, she was so cute.

Carole and Christine:
I wonder if there's a lothario Basset Hound out there somewhere impregnating all these bigger dogs?

A friend of mine has a chow/rotweiller mix. The rotty father jumped a fence at a chow breeder and made the most of it. The breeder was pi$$ed but the pups were amazing. My friend's dog has a strong, solid rotty body and head shape with chow colour, coat, tail and face. She has the classic chow blue tongue. Her demenour is gentle and she is nice to look at but just between us, she ain't the smartest bitch I ever met.:p

Take Care

My dog before my Aussie was a Chow/Golden retriever mix. My daughter was 4 out the time and she could literally ride Fenton and Fenton would stand there, wagging his tail and enjoying it. I never had to worry about him biting or harming her in anyway. She could pull on him, yank on him and he would just wag his tail. He was also a strong dog - broke several leashes when he spotted squirrels. But, he was not the sharpest tool in the shed (A Brit friend called him Daft as a Brush - thought it was appropos). He had that "DUH! I'm a dog" look on his face. Chow's are not known for their intelligence, but mix them with other dogs and you have wonderful pets. He's one I hope it waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I miss him.

We've got a mutt (Charlie Barley Pop) and he's the greatest...Dad was a rotweiller, mom a golden retreiver...He looks like a long haired rot (same markings, body type, HUGE head) and the pointy nose of a retreiver, and the big, soft eyes of a retriever...We taught him to pull a sled when he was 2, and he still pulls our 9 year old around every winter! First snowfall every winter he goes and gets his harness off of the hook! That's the ONLY thing he's EVER used his brain for!! LOL! It's the only dog I've ever had that I hope NEVER crosses the rainbow bridge without me...
