Stopping Slow & Heavy Rotation :(

I am freaking out! I have just finished a 3 week rotation using the Slow and Heavy series. I am SO happy that I bought this DVD! As you probably know, this workout really makes a difference!

I am freaking out because I learned that this is to be a "short" rotation , using it for only 3 or 4 weeks, and alternated with other rotations! I am so afraid that I will lose the muscle mass that I have gained from the slow and heavy. It might not be much to the casual observer, but there is a HUGE difference to me and I LOVE it!!!

So, what workouts should I do in order to keep and improve upon my muscle gains??? Will I lose some of my new muscle size once I stop lifting slow and heavy? I can finally see the definition in my upper body and my back, well, everywhere! and I don't want it to go away now!!!!!

HELP!!!!!

I see no reason why you should lose any muscle mass or strength if you shift to a three or four week rotation with a more endurance based training, say using PUB and PLB or the new Push/Pull or Supersets with the two or three sets premix. Then simply shift back to the S&H that you love so much, so you do constant cycles of 3 week rotations, strength, endurance, strength, endurance, etc.

You know nothing is written in stone, you don't have todo anything. Cathe only says 3 or 4 weeks as rotation length as a suggestion, simply because it requires so much concentration. But you clearly are very suited to this type of workout so I see no reason why you should not do it regularly.

My concern, if this were me, is that I tend to lose some of the endurance capacity in the legs and glutes with S&H training for lower body, and since I really want the legs to be in tip top shape to power me through all my cardio workouts, I would definitely want to do cycles of strength/endurance/strength/endurance for the lower body. I am not so much convinced that the upper body needs a whole lot of endurance work, unless you are a tennis player or something like that, performing repetitive motions with the uppr body.

This may be like abjuring God, Country and Flag, but I'll go for it anyway:

Rotations are not written in stone, or federal, state or municipal statute. If you're experiencing good benefits from the Slow and Heavy system, if you're enjoying the workout as well as those benefits, there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't stick with that until YOU are ready to make a switch, not some arbitrary 3-4 week switcheroo dogma.

Stay with Slow and Heavy. You deserve it.

Hi Jackie,

I am fairly new to Cathe workouts but just wanted to voice my opinion. I started out with slow and heavy, it was the first series i bought along with some cardio, and didn't realize that it was only a 3-4 wk rotation. I had always done the firm, but I never really saw much gain. Anyways, after 3 weeks of using the slow and heavy I really noticed major results, especially in the upper body. But, i decided to order the intensity series to shock my body since i kept reading these boards and learned that our muscles seem to memorize movements. Well, after 4 wks of slow and heavy and only one week of the intensity series, have i noticed a huge difference in my body. I wore a sleeveless top last night and i just loved how my arms looked. i was never so proud!:) I don't know if it was from slow and heavy or switchin to the intensity series, being that its only been a week, but i'm excited and looking forward to seeing what will happen in the next 4 wks. Look at it this way, if you don't see changes, you can always go back to what works for you. i do know tho, that you need to change things up cuz your muscles will respond to doing different things and shock your system. I just love cathe! she's awesome!!

Hi Jackie! If you are still seeing great results with the Slow and Heavy rotation and love doing it....KEEP GOING WITH IT! The three week recommendation is mostly due to the fact that S&H is a very slow and highly focused program that takes a lot of energy and comittment to stick with. Many find that they simply cannot maintain focus with this program for more than three weeks. If you are the opposite and love it so much, then keep on using it. Have fun continuing to get stronger and more defined:7

I'm currently on my fifth week of slow and heavy and going strong (no pun intended). There's no reason to stop unless you feel like you're having trouble concentrating or that you're overtraining.

Thank you!!!! I was thinking that I HAD to stop the S&H for a while because it wouldn't be as beneficial to you after 4 weeks. (that you would have to stop and then start again to shock your muscles).

I am going to continue with it another week and during that time will come up with a new rotation. Guess that means I will be ordering new DVD's!!!
