Step type & height for Slow & Heavy = ?

Hi -

Want to order a better step to use with the Slow & Heavy series. The one I have (Reebok) doesn't "incline" very well, and isn't really long enough. But it looks like the one used in the video isn't generally available.

Does "The Step" incline well enough for these purposes?

Also - does the basic kit for "The Step" come with enough risers or should I order extras?

Thanks!
Chris

Hi Chris,
I use The Step for all of Cathe's strength videos with no problem. I only have the four risers that came with the step and get a great workout!

It doesn't look like it would be high enough for some of the exercises like the dips in Slow & Heavy, without extra risers. Do you get enough range of motion with an 8" high step?

Good point about the tricep dips - you're right, when I do them, I do feel that it would be better if I was up higher. I suppose you could use a chair or coffee table or something, though.

Hm... don't have a coffee table or a sturdy-enough chair in the room I exercise in. So maybe an extra set of risers would be simpler in my case! Thanks for the input.

I used to like to do chair dips....set two kitchen chairs across from each other with the seats facing, the length of your legs apart. Prop your feet on one chair, and position your hands on the other chair like you do in the Cathe tapes. This is an advanced version of the tricep dip, but I like to do it. You could eliminate the "feet" chair, and use one chair for a less advanced option. Or if you have a weight bench, use that.

I use the same step Cathe uses for most of my work. When it comes to the tricep dips and some of the seated work ( like biceps), I usually pull out my rubbermaid stepstool/tool box). Its just the right height for the dips and works well for the step-ups in PS legs. I know a lot of people have them from doing the Firm tapes. I got mine at Target for $15 and I can even store some of my smaller weights in it. Hope this helps.

You can get The Original Step from www.fitness1st.com for $65 which includes the platform and 2 sets of risers (4) for a total height of 8". Additional risers are $20 a pair.

For a long time, I only had 2 sets of risers. I think you could get away with 4 risers. But if you need additional risers later on, www.spriproducts has it at $15 a pair.

Here's a thread from VF Bargain Watch about the step in S&H:

Basically, you can get it at www.buyfitnessstuff.com for $99 - I don't know how many risers does it come with.
