Step sliding on carpet?

Question for Cathe or anyone else who experiences this!

What has anyone used to try to stop the step from sliding on carpet? I am in my 2nd week of a beginner rotation so I'm not using any risers.

I don't feel unsteady or anything or in danger, but it is distracting to all of a sudden notice that I am not stepping about 6" closer to the TV than I was when the workout started!

I can't speak specifically to carpet, but my step slides on my tile floor. I use a piece of rubberized shelf liner underneath mine and it works great. It's just the right width and the package I buy also happens to be the right length. It's an inexpensive fix to try.

I also just discovered that glueing the liner to the back of my puzzle mats keeps them from sliding and I can now use them for the HiiT workouts:D. I've never been able to use them for any kind of cardio before because of the dangerous sliding -- only used them to protect the floor during weights workouts.

Nancy, what a great idea!! My puzzle mats slide all over, driving me to distraction, and I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out a solution...

You're a life-saver!!! Thanks so much.

Great, Denise! You're very welcome. You have to use a pretty heavy-duty glue. I tried using my glue gun and it didn't work at all. My husband had something that has the unfortunate nickname of "elephant snot" but is officially called Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive (I'm sure there are plenty of other things that would work, too). We applied it to the puzzle mat in a line around the edge where the shelf liner would go and spread it out a bit inward, let it dry slightly (just until it's no longer shiny), and smoothed the liner down over the glue.

I've experienced this, and my solution was to put a yoga mat down underneath the step and risers. The traction provided by the yoga mat keeps the step from sliding around on the carpet.

Hope this helps. If you try it, let me know how it works out for you!

I was thinking a yoga mat might work. Thank you all for answering!

The only problem I found with the yoga mat is that it is so much bigger than the step and I would end up tripping over it during combinations that have us moving around the ends of the step. That's why I like the shelf liner. It already comes in the right size, and even if it was too long I wouldn't feel bad about cutting it. I would hate to cut up a yoga mat.

I use a thin rubber yoga mat. It doesn't go anywhere on tile or carpet now. At first it was weird having it there seeing as it is bigger than the step but I haven't tripped on it yet. After one workout it just feels normal.
