I'm new to Cathe and just pre-ordered the Intensity Series. I've never used a step before. Can you guys help me out a recommend one? How much do they usually cost? I recall one of the videos suggests a 14in step. That seems really tall. Is that height absolutely necessary?

Thanks!
:)

I'd definitely recommend a full length step not the smaller length steps in some stores. I think the two major brands are The Step brand and Reebok's step. I believe the former comes with risers so you can adjust the height from 4, 6 or 8 inches. The Reebok step can be adjusted from 6-8-10 inches. You're right 14 inches is too high for step aerobics, but I'm sure Cathe is using it for something else such as leg work, ie. step ups to work your glutes. I'm not sure of the cost, but you can sometimes find used steps at places like Play It Again Sports or even try ebay. I have a Reebok step which was about $80 brand new. I'd say that would be an average price for a new step.

Can I also suggest looking at how much room you have to exercise in as this will also dicate the step you buy.

I have a full size Step Company Step and a Reebok Step. Since I am short I find the Reebok step easier to use when Cathe travels over the full length of the step in one move. I prefer the Step Company Step when I use it as a weight bench, it's easier to decline quickly for Chest work and I don't lose anytime during the Cathe's weight workouts.

Yeah, the 14" is for sit and stands, step ups, and a stool for doing seated upperbody work. Have you ever used The Firm? I use their 14" 'Fanny Lifter' whenever Cathe uses her 14" stool and it works perfect! Also, I recommend The STEP. The Reebok step has a different risers system (unless it has changed recently) that I find harder to work with. Have fun!

Jillybean is right - the changing of the step height is more cumbersome with the Reebok step than the Step Company. One good thing about it though is that the height pieces lock (somewhat loosely) into the board itself so it's easy to transport. Just pick it up and go, no worry about carrying the risers too.

Just 2 cents from a Reebok Step user. ;-)
