Step heights for Imax / Imax 2

Hi All,

Just wondering what step heights the educated crowd is using for the interval workouts.

I've really started concentrating on putting either Imax or Imax 2 into my rotation 2 times per week / non-consecutively. I was using an 8" step as I'm 5'8", but I'm noticing some minor knee soreness. I don't feel like I have the ability to consciously step heel-first instead of flat-footing the board.

Any feedback would really be appreciated. :D

Take care,
Jen

Hi there! I too experienced knee soreness for a LONG time when using 2 risers with my step (I have the reebok step w/purple/grey risers, blk step). I had used 2 risers for years with no problems. Then all of a sudden (must be old age;)) I had probs w/my knees. I took the step down and the pain went away! I also quit doing lunges with heavy wt and now I have NO pain! Some days I have to work a little harder to keep the heart rate up with the lower step but it is definitely doable with Cathe's great tapes! I just jump higher! It is so work the safeness with the knees.

I would try taking down your step for awhile and see how it feels.

I'm 5'00'' and I use a 6'' step on all Cathe workouts. I tried using an 8'' and it felt VERY uncomfortable and awkward. I know my form is much better using a 6''. I have a Reebok step and it won't go any lower than 6'' but that works great for me. Definitely listen to your body.

Danielle :D

I use an 8" step for IMax and IMax2 - it is very intense for me and as of right now I feel no discomfort with that. If it should start causing any kind of pain I will go down a bit and just put more umpf into it to keep the intensity up.

>OK, I confess to a 4 inch step a lot of the time, and never
>more than 6 inches on any Cathe's.

Hey Edith,

Nothing wrong with that! The fact is you are doing the workouts, so you are doing more than probably 80-90% of the population. You go girl!
