Step Blast

I did this workout for the first time this morning, and I must say I felt like I had two left feet! For some reason the choreography was hard for me to get down. I finally got it the final time she repeated, before the last blast challenge. I don't think I got that great of a workout, because of it. But I will keep trying it and get better at it. I must say also, that I didn't much care for the music on this workout. My favorite part was the blast challenge. I loved that.

It took me a few times to get this workout down but once I did it became one of my favorites. This is a great workout to do when you don't really feel like working out because it's so much fun. Personally, I like the music, but if you don't you could try the option with the quieter music and maybe play your own. Keep trying with this workout, I'm confident that you wil love it once you learn it.

It took me weeks to figure this out. Once I did, it just clicked. Some of the parts I just kept rewinding and getting frustrated. Melissa

I too had trouble with this one. I just did one combo at a time. So day one, I'd do the warm up and repeat combo one three times. I would move on to combo 2 when I felt I had 1 down pretty well. So, I'd do the warm up, combo 1, and repeat combo 2 2-3 times, and the same thing with 3. It is now one of my favorite step workouts of all time. I do like the music on this one though. If you don't, you can always use the vocals louder option.:)

Ditto here!!! I like it but there are parts that I have to rewind and re-do!!!

And then when she says are you ready for the CHALLENGE!!!! I said to myself, what CHALLENGE??? This whole things is a challenge!!!

Don't give up on Step Blast--the choreography is a bit more complex but once you get it down it is so much fun! It's one of my favorite Cathe cardio workouts--Power Max & Rhythmic Step are the top 2, & they're similar in choreography.

The thing is when the choreography is complex 1) you don't get as good of a workout b/c you're concentrating so hard you can't put the intensity into it & 2) it can be frustrating & of course one of the reasons we exercise is to feel good mentally, not just physically.

Try watching it a few times, pausing the more difficult moves & practicing them. I promise you won't regret it!

Step Blast in my opinion is one of Cathe's best. She really came up with a workout that's both intense and fun. The choreography is a little more challenging than most, so you'll need to be patient the first couple two three times you attempt it. Combo three is my favorite.

Thanks for the encouragement, ladies. I will keep plugging away at it and I know I will get it eventually.

I did Step Blast again this morning, and am happy to report I did much better. I was starting to get the choreography and had a great time doing it. I think it will turn out to be one of my favorites. As an aside, I love the ab section in SJP. I tacked that on to the end of SB today and my abs are feeling it!

Erin: do you preview workouts before you do them? I find that this helps a lot especially with cardio. I watch the entire workout (I chapter skip for weight workouts, but watch cardio the whole way through) and pretend I'm working along with it. I can then pick out moves that seem complicated, and pay more attention to what foot is where on what beat, counting out the 8-count as I watch the move, or even developing my own cues for moves (ie: a "triple around the step" cues better for me as a 'walk-walk-triple...triple' because it cues each step of the move).

When I actually do the workout, I usually get about 85%+ of the moves the first time through, and most of the rest of it after they have been repeated a couple of times. Whatever moves I still have trouble with, I will back chapter and repeat, counting out the 8-count (one move I had to do that with was the "power skaters" in BMax2: I kept exiting on the wrong side of the step until I made sure that the knee that is up on the 6 count is the same leg that exits).

Thanks for the tips, Kathyrn. No, I have never previewed the workouts. I just don't have the time to do that. But I will consider doing that the next time, particularly if I know the workout is high on the complicated choreography. :)

Ditto to everyone else...this is one of my favorites. I just did it this morning. It is so much fun:) Keep trying it...you'll end up loving it, and once you get it, its a great workout!

This one is one of my favorites and I do it over and over again. I first did it on the Timesaver DVD so I did a section at a time until I mastered it. I finally had to buy the Step Blast DVD to get the whole workout.

A great workout!! I disagree however with a previous post that says that complex choreo workouts do not offer as good of a workout because you are concentrating too much on the moves and can't add intensity. After you get the moves down, you can add intensity by jumping higher or nailing your form (if you actually feel the need to add intensity). This workout always has my heartrate elevated without much break and I am always soaking wet at the end. It may not seem like an intense workout just because you are concentrating on the moves but my body definitely lets me know I had an outstanding workout.:)

Stick with it and you will grab this one again and again. It just seems to fly by!

It's a great workout, try the premix with just the w/up, step routine, and cool down. For me, that was the only way to do it cause I was a newbie. Previewing always helps me too.
