Step Blast vs Rhythmic Step

I am looking for an intense cardio step DVD by Cathe. I have IMAX 2 and I love it. I was thinking about one of these two. I have no problem with choreography. I'm looking for intensity and fun. What do you recommend? Thanks. '

I really enjoy Step Blast. It's one of my favorites.

Rhythmic Step is a bit to dancy for me. But that's just my opinion.

Jennie.

Step Blast has great choreography, but it's more atheletic than Rhythmic Step. It's also more intense, especially at the end, where she includes some blasts.

Rhythmic Step is lots of fun and more dancy, as Jennie said. It's a good, solid, steady state workout.

Step Blast is my very favorite step workout, hands down.

I like Rythmic Step a little better than Step Blast because there is less break down of moves and less repeating each part of the combo. Also, it is really fun. I avoid Step Blast because I like to get on with the routine rather than repeating each part of the combo many times. Melissa

I've never really been able to get into Rhythmic Step. It's just too dancy and I am addicted to blasts/intervals/etc. I just did Step Blast the other day again and realized how much I love it. It is my favorite Cathe, by far. Pure fun but not killer until the end.

I actually think Rhythmic Step is tougher. I think, because I do interval workouts so frequently, my body's become a wee bit acclimated to intervals. Because of this, steady state cardio is quite challenging for me. But I enjoy both of these workouts immensely.

If I wake up and simply do not feel like working out (I'm an a.m. exerciser), I will put in Step Blast. This one is so motivating and fun. But Rhythmic Step is fun, too. Also, Rhythmic Step gives me DOMS in my legs and glutes, which is always a good thing.

ETA: I guess because of the blasts at the end, most people would say Step Blast is more intense. I'm sure I'm in the minority when I say that I find Rhythmic Step the more challenging of the two. (I also add power to the majortiy of Rhythmic Step's moves.)

Hello Carmen,

Rhythmic Step is definitely more dancy and probably slightly less intense than Step Blast (only at the finaly portion though), but I think Rhythmic Step is longer so you will end up burning about the same amount of calories.

The Rhythmic DVD has two other workouts, MIC and IMAX. If you feel like more intense stepping then you can make a mish mosh of these 3 workouts and they will be more intense than the cardio on Step Blast DVD. There is also more variety in terms of cardio workouts. But then Step Blast has Step, Jump and Pump and lots of premixes. You can do a long (90mins) cardio only workout combining both workouts, or cardio and weights workouts.

I say aim to buy both in the long run. It doesn't matter which one you buy first, as you will enjoy it.

These are my two favorite step workouts so personally I would think you couldn't go wrong, but I'd agree with those who say in general Step Blast is a little more intense. On the other hand, Rhythmic Step is high impact fun. If it's about the overall DVDs, though, I love Step Jump & Pump almost as much as Step Blast--really fun step workout as well as hi-lo and weights. The second combo (think it's the 2nd) of SJP has a kickboxing feel and is done to that "kung fu fighting" song and it's one of my favorite Cathe combos.

I prefer Rhythmic Step because it is such a happy workout and I love dancy moves!

But Step Blast is awesome too -- I love them both!

You can't go wrong with either one though -- it just depends on your personal preferences.

These are my two favorites! I would agree with everyone else that you can't go wrong with either one. It was harder to catch on to Rhythmic step--so there was a learning curve. With Step Blast, you can jump right in with the moves. Best wishes!!!

Both, both, both. :) I like Step Blast's 40 minute premix but Rhythmic Step is SO much fun I just don't see the time passing by.
