Step Blast Combo #3 - Peg Leg Pivot

Can you believe I was late to work this morning because I kept reviewing sections in Combo #3 I'm having trouble doing. I can't do the peg leg pivot. Am I crazy, but I was practicing it in my head and trying to do the footwork in my office. I read that Cathe posted how to do this in a previous forum. Does anyone have it?

Also, the last section of Combo #3 with the bombos and turning around twice I get totally frustrated.

I've only done this DVD 2x and know I have to be patient.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yup, that peg leg pivot takes time and practice. I actually practiced it one evening while waiting for my son to finish his dinner. He looked at me as though I'd lost it.:) Anyway, when doing the pivot, remember to turn outward, or away from the step. So when you're on the left side of your step, pivot to the left. When you're on the right side, pivot right. Hope that makes sense.

That third combo can be really confusing. It took me about four tries to get it ALMOST right. I still can't do it perfectly. I still end up on the wrong side of the step when doing those fast tap repeaters. It's the shuffle at the end of the rock step combo that messes me up. And those multiple triple steps! I feel those on my shins because I'm working out on carpet.

Good luck,
Pinky

:D I remember I had trouble with this move during the "Step blast" challenge! Cathe wrote back to me re: the move and of course I do not have it (maybe DebH can find it, she's good at that sort of thing). I know in order to be in the correct position to do the peg leg pivot you need to be at the back of your step for the mambo and then triple step around toward the front of the step. During the fast tap repeaters start with your inside leg (leg closest to TV) that way you will be at the back of the step for your mambo. Good Luck!

I have just done Step Blast for the third time and I am just catching on to the peg leg pivots, the triples, and the difference between the reverse hopturn and starburst over (footwise). And a couple of other tricky parts, like the leap before the up-back (combo #1?).

I am so happy that each time I do the video, she doesn't change it, LOL. The third time's a charm!

Now if I did it all as it was supposed to be, now, I'd be above my fitness level, so there's a double benefit to gradually learning it!

For the peg-leg pivot, I try to remember that the same foot needs to "peg" on the step every time whether I'm facing forward (toward the TV)or backward (going away from the TV). I hope that makes sense. As for the mambos...I just sorta feel it. But you face the step (from the TV side) to begin both mambos. And there's no tapping...the weight exchanges right from one foot to the next as you begin the mambos. I hope you get it...I just love this workout!

You know what kills me is when I finally figure out that a "new" move is really an old move with a twist. The starburst is the exact same footwork as "over facing over" just with your hands waving around above your head and more of a diagonal direction. Once I knocked that into my skull, it was easy peasy.

Me personally, I skip the pivot part b/c it's too hard to do it on my carpet. If you peg leg the entire time you'll end up on the right foot everytime.

I found I "got it" after following Cedie's form on it. She does more of a full circle type move than a straighter pivot (which also doesn't put the knee in a strange crossing position).

Lisa!

You are too funny. I was going to be on a mission to find it for Erin but after reading down thru the rest of the posts, I see someone found it! BTW, did you ever find your hampster????

DEB H!!!!

:D Hi Deb!! No, we never did find the first hamster. Boy, you have a terrific memory! Lacey has since gotten a second hamster she has had for quite a while and has lost it probably 4 times and by miracle we have always found this one. His name is Hammy and he is long-haired and very lovable!!! Thanks for asking!!!

"Step Blast" is a VERY complicated video -- the third section completely confuses me -- I am trying to learn it still. I find myself turning the wrong way, etc. While I LOVE those peg leg pivots, my problem is getting back to the step to do them the right way!

I just watch the video and then try it by myself. Then I do it with the video.

"Step Blast" has to be the most difficult video that I have ever tried to master (along with Christi Taylor's Solid Gold Step) -- I am glad some others share my frustration.

One day we will get it though -- I am not really fond of the fast straddle steps that Cathe also uses in IMAX 2. In IMAX 2 they are easy because they are a basic move, but when they are combined with an already difficult step video, the footwork is too much too fast for me! I wish she had broken down the third section a little more.

But I sure do love the "Blast Sections"!

Just wanted to tell everyone who replied to by subject that I GOT IT! I was screaming to my husband I did it!
Thanks guys.

Just wanted to add this suggestion in case you haven't tried it yourself. If you have a DVD player (might work on VHS, too), I pause the DVD at the move that's giving me trouble and hit the pause button again to slowly go forward frame by frame and trying it along with Cathe. This has helped me on Step Fit, Rhythmic Step, and now Step Blast with learning new moves and trying to figure out which way to turn. If you have this feature available on your DVD player or VCR, I would try it.

Hope this helps :)
