Static shock touching my DVD player

I was working out the other day, and I must have been skipping around pretty good, because when I went to stop the DVD player, I got a HUGE static shock. I felt it travel up my arm and through the top of my head. It actually turned off the DVD player. When I went to turn it back on, I found that the front control buttons didn't work anymore (I had to turn it on with the remote), and the display wouldn't work either. Has this ever happened to anyone, and is there any way to reset the machine so the buttons work again? It is still playable but I like the front timer display so I can see how long I have been exercising. Thanks - Laura

Sounds like it will need repaired or replaced.
It is like working inside a computer. You have to be grounded. The static can blow the circuits.
My guess is a circuit board (probably may of them in there )has blown.
I would personally get a countdown timer or deal with it, or dump it and buy a new one. Use it in another room for movies or something. I know i like my timer. I don't think they are worth fixing now a days unless you have a 2000. dvd burner /player. You can buy one for under 50 bucks.

PS:You probably picked up static on the carpet, jumping around.Like rubbing a baloon on your hair and creating ststic.

Sorry for the electronic problem.
