static lunge problems

Why can't I do static lunges? I start out alright but then my back leg really starts to feel it a lot more than my front glute/hamstring!
I always have to stop before they are at the end of their set. I thought that the front glute/hamstring was supposed to feel it more-what am I doing wrong? Any suggestions/advice?

I have the same problem. My calf in my back leg starts cramping pretty badly almost at the end and I have to stop. Would love to hear any pointers.

I have the same problem. I thought because my legs were so long that I wasn't able to have the correct positioning. I hope Cathe sees this one!!

Bumping - me too! I feel the burn much more in my back leg. I also have a problem keeping the 90 degree angle in the back. Am I stepping back too far? It feels like if I don't step back that far then my knee will go over my toe in the front.

What helps me is to put my back leg on a 6 inch step. This seems to take enough of the pressure off to better equalize the front and rear leg load. Cathe uses this type of lunge in some of her workouts and that's how I learned it, so now I use it for all her longer static lunge segments. Otherwise I get that terrible calf cramping too.

Cathe, do you have any advice. Static lunges are almost always in your leg strength training workouts. MY back quad feel the static lunge much more than my front glute/hamstring. Have you ever had this problem? Do you think I am putting my back leg too far back? I will try doing this move in front of a mirror and see if I can improve my form. I am hoping that you have some suggestions for me Cathe!! I want to be able to do this move as well as you!

I just did Muscle Max on Monday and my calves were soooo sore on Tuesday! I've never had that happen before. Loved the workout.:)

For me it happened the other way around. I was perfectly able to do them when one day I noticed I couldn't anymore. Thought at the time it had to do with my form, so I tried getting my form perfect but nothing helps.

I had this problem, too, especially during Muscle Endurance. For me, it was in my form. I wasn't putting enough of my weight on the front leg and pushing up with my heel and glute. Since I've really started to concentrate on that, I have not had the calf burn. As Tosca Reno says, you have to put your brain in the muscle you are training. So, I try to do that when I am training my muscles.

I too have the same problem! My calve is fried before my front leg ever feels anything. Would love to hear what Cathe suggests.

hi MARIA! have you tried putting the front of your front foot up on a flat weight?(only an inch or so off the ground) this sometimes helps me concentrate on that leg.

I don't have these problems when I do S&H or PLB with a heavy load, but I do have it with endurance w/o's like ME or Power Hour if I use a bb. I don't have it if I use light db or no weight at all.
