Starting Meso 2 and need to upgrade equip...

I have the Troy Lite barbell but I'm lifting a lot heavier in Meso 2 than I was in Meso 1. I knew I should've bought extra plates at the time but I didn't, unfortunately. Are there any stores that carry the plates that will fit this size bar? I really don't want to eat the $40 shipping charge.

Also, for those of you who have the weighted vest for Meso 3: did you find the 20 lbs one was too light? I was thinking of buying the 40 lbs vest but wanted to get some input first.

TIA!!

Many stores carry plates with a 1" opening (which is what the Troy Lite has). Walmart, Target, Dick's. (The only other type of bar is the "Olympic" bar, which has bigger plates, and a 2" opening). Unfortunately, I haven't seen many with the nice rubber coating that Troy has.

It's possible you could get Dick's to order the Troy Lite plates for you, and you wouldn't have to pay shipping.

As for the vest, I personally think it would be awkward to deal with a 40# or heavier vest, but Ironwear has some vests that you can get 'undervests' for, so you have two layers of 20#, say, instead of one 40# vest.

Here is a link to an online merchant that I have purchased stuff from including my Troy Lightweight barbell. They do sell 10# weights (in pairs)that are for the Troy Lightweight barbell. Scroll down to the middle of the page to see the Extra weights.

Thanks ladies!

Ckup, am I reading this right? $22.25 for a pair of 2.5's? The site I purchased my Troy Lite has the same size for $7/pair: http://fitness1st.com/Troy-Bars.html

I might just suck up the shipping charges and buy the plates online.

Wow, what a price difference. I remember their prices being lower a few years back.

The Fitness First website prices are much better and even after they add shipping, they still beat Dumbbell Buddies price. I will be bookmarking this site for future reference.

Thanks :D

I agree totally with Kathryn. There is no need to have plates shipped to you when you can get them just about anywhere. Just remember, your Troy Lite bar holds 80 pounds of weights. If you need to go heavier than 80 lbs you need to invest in a heavier bar.

I have a Troy Lite bar for my lighter lifting and have a different bar with my bench and squat rack which is much bigger and much, much heavier (25 pounds just for the bar), however, the one inch diameter in the middle is pretty universal.

The cheap side of me just couldn't bear the shipping charges. I went to Sears over the weekend and bought 40lbs worth of plates for....$40!! They're not as pretty as my Troy Lite plates but hey, when the whole set costs as much as the shipping charges of TL plates, then I'll take the ugly ducklings!!
