Stability Ball

Hello,

Do you really need the stability for the new workouts? I really do not want to purchase any additional equipment.

Thanks in advance.

I just tried Kick punch and Crunch today and the abs and core section uses a stability ball. I thought it was a great routine and worth using the ball. The ball adds variety and makes you focus on balance as well. I found it a refreshing change from traditional exercises.

I found my stability ball on clearance and I think it was less than $20. If you shop around you can find one and I think you won't regret the purchase. I have not tried Push Pull yet but I think the stability ball is used there too.

Wal-Mart sells stability balls with a pump to blow it up for $13.88. Wal-Mart also has "cylinder-like" balls that are easier to balance on.

I think there are usually modifications that Cathe talks about in each workout if you don't have the stability ball. I got one back in March, and after getting a bit bored with the exercises, was so happy that Cathe had incorporated the Stability Ball in her new workouts. I think it would be worth the purchase, but you can always try the modifications first. Then maybe get the Stability Ball sometime down the road...:) Carole

That's what I did when I first got the Intensity Series. I didn't feel like buying yet another piece of fitness equipment so I did the exercises without the ball and still felt them fine. I finally caved and bought a ball and am extremely happy with it. Fun and effective! I'd do what Carole suggested and just do modifications and buy the ball down the road if you feel like it.

Kimmie,
In terms of bang for your buck, you can't go wrong w/ a stability ball. Usually, mods are shown to do moves sans ball (haven't previewed push/pull in it's entirety yet so I can't say affirmatively that their is mods shown in that one however. But just add me to the cave-and-get-a-ball,-you-won't-be-sorry camp ;-) ).

Thanks to everyone for their advice.

I do believe the stability ball is great. However, I just do not want to get caught in a trap where I constantly have to buy more equipment to go along with the videos. I have dumbbells, barbell, plates, step bench and the mini step....I believe that is enough. The only thing I believe I "have" to purchase is heavier dumbbells. It is nice to know that I can modify the moves.

Thanks again.

I was wondering about that cylinder shaped ball. That's the only thing that the Walmart nearest me has... Do you think it's a good choice or should I look elsewhere for a round ball?

I think you can modify moves so that you can do them on the floor. However, I do think a stability ball is an excellent investment. You can find inexpensive ones that will last a long time. If you think about it as $15 spread out of 5 years or more, it doesn't sound so bad!
