Stability ball - harder than it looks?

I just recently purchased a stability ball. I normally just follow the substitions in Cathe's workouts when she uses one. So, I was excited to use my ball when I got it. Specifically, I was doing the ball portion of PLB and the first exercise for hamstrings where you have one leg in the air and one on the ball was almost impossible. The ball was moving and my leg was shaking all over the place. I could do other exercises where two legs were involved, etc. although they weren't easy. Does Cathe and the gang just make it look easy and it's really something I need to practice with or is it me? Your input is appreciated.

It's not you, no worries. The whole idea of the stability ball is to provide an unstable surface so that your muscles work not only at the exercise but at stabilizing your body. It takes a bit to get used to. You'll get the hang of it.

I just got a stability ball a couple of months ago. I did the same thing - wobbling all over the place or even rolling right off of it! But I kept trying and surprised myself one day when I was able to do the exercises correctly! It is a terrific exercise tool - someone it really makes you work the muscles harder - especially the core - and it's great for stretching too!

Even after using a stability ball for a couple of years, I still have days I'm better then others! But you will improve - just keep practicing! I think the ball work is great for improving strength and love the variety!

You could try putting the ball against a wall for a bit of support. Then when you can do those one-legged ball exercises like that, move the ball away from the wall.
