Stability ball core work in PUB ?

Cathlete
I was doing PUB last night, which I love :) I got through the weights and was doing the stability ball core work, but when I got to the knee roll ins and pike jack knives, my shoulders were shaking and too tired to do it all without taking breaks. These are my favorite core moves on the ball, so I want to be able to do them all, but my shoulders were too fatigued from the weight work to do them well. Would it be ok to do the core work at the beginning or would my shoulders be too tired to do as much weight then? Any other suggestions? TIA!

Hi Carol,

I was like you, my arms just couldn't hold me on that dang stability ball after that killer workout. So I just do my warm-up, the abs, then the rest of the workout. Made a BIG difference. Plus, it was nice knowing that when I got to the last bicep curl I was DONE! LOL

Carol-
Another option to doing abs first (which I do or I always blow them off!) is to do the Abs section on an all cardio day if you have that in your rotation. Personally I have been able to do 3 abs per week (a first for me!) by doing them first before my cardio....keep in mind I do cardio seperate days from strength. Just another option

Carol, I just recently started doing all of my ab workouts first. Especially on PUB because I am determined to get up into a full pike. If I don't do them first, I end up blowing them off as well!

Take care, Melissa

I do abs on a cardio day, too. For me, it helps to keep abs separate from upper body and lower body weight work... I feel I'm better able to focus on my abs.

Another one who does abs on cardio days. It's helped me to focus on a weak area and really improve it. I also sometimes do abs on yoga days.

This is actually a good idea. I was just thinking about doing the stability ball work first this last Wednesday when I finished up PUB because my shoulders and arms were just too shaky!!!

I think that I will try this this Wednesday.

Carol,

Wouldn't hurt at all to do them first.

Did them first yesterday and was actually able to do them (on my elbows, mind you!):D

I haven't built up to doing them on my hands yet, but we're getting there! Although I did notice that my chest flys and bench presses were a little weak by the last 2 sets from the fatigue, but that passed.

Many times I do the core work in PUB right after the WU. Some days I can do all those pikes and some days I can't...I don't know why I can't do them consistently...

I have the same problem, and it irritates me to have to do the abs first - I think it's a flaw in the way the workout was designed - if you've really gone out on the shoulders you won't have enough strenght left for the pikes. At least I don't!

Hey Carol - My shoulders get very fatigued when I get to the core work. I think it's a great idea to do the core work at the beginning!!!!

P.S. Knew I'd find you sooner or later on this site!!!!

Carol: I just did PUB last night. Usually I do the whole thing and I have the same problems. My schedule has changed, and I have about 45 minutes right after work to workout. So last night I did just the weights portion while my dinner cooked. Then I took a break, eat dinner (good recovery for muscles) cleaned the kitchen and waited till my food "settled" and then I went back and did stability ball abs and stretch. That worked great for me. I did almost all the pikes and sometimes I can hardly do any.

Might be worth a try for you if your schedule permits.
